Netizens react to DaBaby sampling Maskandi hit song 'Wenhliziyo Yami' in viral TikTok video

American rapper DaBaby sent social media into a frenzy after he sampled a popular Maskandi song. Image: Instagram No DNA, just RSA! American rapper DaBaby (real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk) has gone viral in Mzansi after he sampled a Maskandi track titled 'Wenhliziyo Yami' by a South African singer, Zwide. The 33-year-old rapper shared a snippet of a video of his unreleased song on his social media platforms, which has since gone viral and sparked a reaction from netizens. While he did not share the title of the upcoming track, what captured the attention of South Africans was the lyrics that he is singing, which are the complete opposite of what is being sung in the original song. The video has amassed over 1 million views on TikTok, over 190 000 likes and over 10 000 comments. According to 'Daily News', recent data from Spotify has revealed that Maskandi has emerged as South Africa's fastest-growing genre over the past two years, with almost half of its listeners under the age of 35. Maskandi is an age-old Zulu genre that has been making waves in South Africa, with many Maskandi artists experiencing a resurgence of growth in their music this year. One of those artists includes Zwide, whose song 'Wenhliziyo Yami' was sampled in DaBaby's upcoming song that has since taken social media by storm. In a conversation with 'Independent Media Lifestyle', Zwide, born Sthabiso Nxumalo, shared his thoughts about seeing his hit song, which features well-known acts like Mafikizolo and Umehlabomvu, being sampled by an international artist. 'I was very happy to see a person that does not know IsiZulu, sing along to the song like that,' he shared. The 'iAttention' singer further revealed that there had been no prior conversation between him and DaBaby about sampling the song. 'No, he did not speak to anyone about the song because I did not even know anything about it,' he added. However, it still remains unclear whether the American rapper sampled Zwide's original song or one of the renditions that have since gone viral as well in South Africa. DaBaby's video left many puzzled as they expressed that they can't hear what he is trying to say, and sent many to the comment section. A social media user commented: 'Niyamuzwa nina? (Do you guys hear him?) Another user wrote: 'I thought it was AI.' While another user added: 'Guys, what is he saying?'

DaBaby Assault Charges For Bowling Alley Scuffle With DaniLeigh's Brother Thrown Out

DaBaby scored a major legal victory this week. His assault charges stemming from a bowling alley scuffle with DaniLeigh's brother in 2022 were thrown out. Los Angeles County Judge Huey P. Cotton made the call on Wednesday (May 21), stating that Brandon Bills failed to submit proper court papers that invoked the Charlotte rapper within the three years since initially filing the lawsuit, according to Billboard. Bills, real name Brandon Curiel, is the brother of DaniLeigh, whom the 'Suge' rapper dated until November 2021. They share one daughter. Bills' attorneys claimed that it had been 'virtually impossible' to serve the controversial rapper his court papers because he had been so busy touring the world. Judge Cotton countered and said that it was his 'lack of urgency' that hindered his ability to serve the 33-year-old rapper within the allotted time. 'The court finds plaintiff's explanations unavailing,' Cotton stated. 'Service was not attempted until more than a year after the case had been filed. The concert schedule attached does show some out of the country engagements. But the majority of the concert venues were in the United States.' Brandon Bills originally claimed that DaBaby attacked him out of nowhere at a San Fernando bowling alley in 2022. TMZ later provided footage of the attack, but the eight-time Grammy nominee claimed he was acting out of self-defense. While the assault claims are now done with, DaBaby's pockets may still take a hit via Brandon Bills' lawsuit against Corbin Bowl, the alley in which he was allegedly attacked. Bills is suing them for negligence in not preventing the alleged act of violence. The Baby On Baby artist is still involved due to an 'indemnity' claim by the bowling alley, asserting that he should be held liable financially for whatever judgment or possible settlement comes from the case. Corbin Bowl has denied any negligence, but believes that if they are to be held responsible for Bills' injuries, then DaBaby ought to pay some or all of his legal bills since he 'proximately caused' them. The bowling alley is scheduled to be put on trial in the fall of 2026. Sexyy Red shares private DMs allegedly received from rappers and athletes to promote new single

Rapper Sexyy Red has ignited controversy online after allegedly sharing a montage of private and explicit direct messages reportedly sent to her by unnamed athletes and fellow rappers. The social media post, soundtracked by her newly released single 'Hoochie Coochie,' has stirred backlash and debate among fans. In the now-viral video, several unidentified senders express their infatuation with the St. Louis rapper, with messages ranging from "I think about you all the time" to "Baby, I'm infatuated." The montage, meant to boost visibility for the track, was shared across multiple platforms, drawing swift reaction from the public. The move appears to be part of a calculated campaign to promote 'Hoochie Coochie,' which dropped last Friday alongside a music video directed by DaBaby. The single is already gaining traction and being positioned by some as a contender for summer anthem status. While she declined to name those behind the leaked messages, the rapper was previously rumoured to be dating Chief Keef. In an earlier interview, she described their bond as close and undefined, saying, 'We like each other, but we can sit on the phone, we can be around each other and act like we been knew each other all these years.'
