Rod Stewart issues disappointing Glastonbury announcement as fans left gutted
Rod Stewart has revealed that he begged Glastonbury bosses for a different outcome.
Sir Rod Stewart has shared a disappointing update about his Glastonbury performance which is sure to leave fans gutted. The Maggie May hitmaker revealed he has been begging festival bosses for more time on stage this weekend as he performs the coveted Legends Slot on Sunday evening.
The 80-year-old said he doesn't have any announcements during his highly anticipated set, meaning that his interactions with the crowd will be limited, and not all of his famous hits will be played within his allocated time frame at Worthy Farm on June 29.
The announcement comes after a dispute over the time that Rod would have on stage with the rock icon managing to negotiate an additional 15 minutes set to one hour and a half after he was originally offered 75 minutes.
Despite the additional minutes, it's still not enough time for Rod to fire out all of his classic hits on the Pyramid Stage so he wants to limit his talking time in between tunes to "get in as many songs" as he can, the Express reports. Explaining his plan for the show, Rod told the BBC: "Usually I do well over two hours so there's still a load of songs we won't be able to do. But we've been working at it.
"I'm not gonna make any announcements between songs. I'll do one number, shout 'next', and go straight into the next one. I'm going to get in as many songs I can."
Despite the odd track being missed, Rod promised his fans that his Glastonbury set will be "special".
He said: "I'm really looking forward to it. And it is a different gig.
"It's like when you're playing a cup final: you're trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it's not. It's special.
"It'll be glamorous, it'll be sexy. Not me - I'm talking about the other members of the group!
"And we've got a little orchestra coming on to play with us. And we may have some bagpipes."
The Da Ya Think I'm Sexy singer previously confessed he had "begged" the Glastonbury bosses for more time on stage.
He told the Radio Times: "It's difficult because they only gave me an hour-and-a-quarter slot.
"So I begged them: can I do another 15 minutes? Because usually I play for two hours."
Rod headlined Glastonbury Festival back in 2002 and is now making his return 23 years later.
His upcoming set will make him the first artist to top both the bill at the Pyramid Stage and play the now iconic tea time slot.
Other Glastonbury headliners this weekend include the 1975, Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts and Olivia Rodrigo.
