Here's a trailer for an upcoming ghost story psycological horror film titled Went Up the Hill, which centers on a recently deceased woman who haunts her estranged son Jack (Dacre Montgomery) and her grieving widow Jill (Vicky Krieps). In the film, 'Abandoned as a child, Jack travels to remote New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother Elizabeth. There he meets her widow, Jill, who has many questions of her own... 'Over the nights that follow, Elizabeth returns and possesses Jack and Jill, using each of their bodies to speak to the other. Jill faces Elizabeth's suicide, while Jack confronts his abandonment. 'As they learn she is trapped in limbo, Jack soon begins to doubt Elizabeth's reason for returning. Caught in a life-threatening nocturnal dance, Jack and Jill must find a way to let go of Elizabeth's hold before she pushes them to the edge.' The movie comes from director Samuel Van Grinsven, and it looks like a solid, moody, and sinister horror film worth checking out. The movie is set to be released on August 15th, 2025

Trailer Release For Samuel Van Grinsven's Haunting Canterbury-set Ghost Story, Went Up The Hill
Starring Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Corsage) & Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) A haunting and emotionally charged film set against the raw beauty of the Craigieburn Valley in New Zealand's South Island - WENT UP THE HILL will have its New Zealand Premiere at Whānau Mārama, the New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) ahead of a nationwide theatrical release in New Zealand this September. Directed by Canterbury-born Samuel Van Grinsven (Sequin in a Blue Room), the story follows Jack (Dacre Montgomery), who travels to remote New Zealand for the funeral of his estranged mother. There he meets her widow, Jill (Vicky Krieps), and over the course of several unsettling nights, both are possessed by Elizabeth's ghost, who uses their bodies to communicate with the other from beyond the grave. Starring acclaimed international actors Vicky Krieps (Corsage, Phantom Thread), Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things, Elvis), and iconic New Zealand performer Sarah Peirse (Heavenly Creatures, Sweet Tooth), the film is a supernatural thriller rooted in grief. Shot at Lake Pearson luxury lodge Flockhilll on the Great Alpine Highway, the film is deeply influenced by the landscape's emotional and physical isolation. It's an intimate story about control and letting go, set in a place where nature mirrors the characters' inner lives. ' WENT UP THE HILL is an intimate, modern ghost story that dances in the tension between genres to explore the extremities of grief in our pursuit of letting go, ' says Samuel Van Grinsven. ' It was inspired by nostalgic memories of my childhood in New Zealand's remote South Island.' ' The film has the very unique idea of a ghost story between three characters, played by only two actors, Krieps and Montgomery.' 'Stranger Things' Star Dacre Montgomery Just Announced Career-Changing Hollywood Move
Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery is set to make his directorial debut with The Engagement Party, Deadline reports, marking a major career step for the Netflix actor. 'On a beautiful, secluded island, amidst the golden rays and ocean breeze of a stunning beach house, two couples reunite to celebrate a momentous occasion. Until a conflicting memory arises which threatens to tear their relationships apart,' the synopsis reads. 'With each wave crashing against the shore, the line between memory and manipulation blurs, forcing them to confront a question they've tried to forget: What really happened that night?' Written by Joey Anast, the film will also see Montgomery star alongside Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Arlo Green (M3GAN). 'I could not be more honoured to be directing The Engagement Party, a film with an extremely important and timely message,' Dacre Montgomery said. 'I'm equally thrilled to have such a wonderful team of collaborators to help bring this story to life.' Nick Batzias and Virginia Whitwell will produce for GoodThing Productions alongside Ian Booth and Nash Edgerton. 'We felt strongly that this was a special film from the start. It's a bold and unique exploration of trauma, love, friendship and consent,' Batzias and Whitwell said. 'Writer Jory Anast and director Dacre Montgomery are brave and fearless storytellers and we're delighted to be working with them on this important film'. Montgomery previously portrayed the role of Billy Hargrove on Stranger Things. The show's final season is expected to air later this year.
