Four-star general, former MDA official ‘unanimously confirmed' to lead Golden Dome project

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WHNT) — The Senate unanimously confirmed a former Redstone Arsenal Missile Defense Agency official to lead the project. The Senate confirmed General Michael A. Guetlein to lead the Department of Defense's Golden Dome project on Friday. In June 2025, the Congressional Golden Dome Caucus was established. Trump's 'next-generation' missile defense plan gains momentum as US faces foreign threats

House Republicans have formed their own Golden Dome Caucus as President Donald Trump continues to push for a nationwide missile defense system. Rep. Jeff Crank, R-Colo., and Rep. Dale Strong, R-Ala., launched the caucus to be an "educational clearinghouse" as the policy effort for the dome kicks off. "Golden Dome will only be successful if we meet President Trump's timeline," Crank said in a statement Tuesday. "This means that is imperative that we, members and stakeholders, are well informed and working together to revolutionize missile defense of our great nation." According to a news release, it will work with the Senate Golden Dome Caucus founded last month by Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont. "President Trump has artfully highlighted the critical need for a next-generation missile defense shield to protect the U.S. against ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles and other aerial attacks. With nuclear-capable adversaries across the globe, we can't afford for this vision to not become a reality," Strong said. "North Alabama has played a role in every former and current U.S. missile defense program and stands ready once again to meet this urgent need." Trump signed an executive order in January ordering the project but formally announced the effort in May, which was partly inspired by Israel's Iron Dome. "Within the last four decades, our adversaries have developed more advanced and lethal long-range weapons than ever before, including ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles capable of striking the homeland with either conventional or nuclear warheads," Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement May 20. "Golden Dome is designed to leverage some past investments but will also use next-generation technology to defend against the evolving and complex threat landscape," President Ronald Reagan proposed a similar program, known as the Strategic Defense Imitative, in 1983. The dome has a starting projected cost of $175 billion, and $25 billion is allocated through the proposed reconciliation bill in Congress, but some estimates show a higher figure. "This is very important for the success and even survival of our country. It's an evil world out there," Trump said during an Oval Office event about the Golden Dome in May. Fox News Digital previously reported that Russia, China and North Korea mocked the Golden Dome pitch from Trump. "The project will heighten the risk of turning space into a war zone and creating a space arms race and shake the international security and arms control system," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said last month.

Democrat launches campaign for U.S. House District 5 with breakfast in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The next time the U.S. House of Representatives District 5 seat appears on the ballot is still more than a year away, however, candidates are already tossing their hats in the ring. On Monday, Democrat Jeremy Devito held a campaign kickoff breakfast in Huntsville. He met with potential supporters and answered questions on a wide range of issues. Rep. Dale Strong provides Washington Update at Athens State University 'The next election is going to determine a lot of things for generations to come,' Devito told News 19. He said he believes he's the best person to make the decisions for the people of Alabama's 5th District. In addition to answering questions about abortion and DEI, Devito shared his thoughts on the current Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) practices. He told News 19 that this is a top issue for him. 'Right now, people are being kidnapped, snatched up off the street and not afforded due process,' Devito said. He also said 'restoring' women's rights is a top issue for him. According to the platform listed on his website, 'every woman deserves full control over her body, her choices, and her future. That includes access to abortion, birth control, maternal care, and the full range of reproductive healthcare.' He told News 19, 'This is a war on women and health care.'This is Devito's first attempt at any political aspirations. He told News 19 that he has worked 'behind the scenes' as a member of the Limestone County Democratic Executive Committee, but that he was inspired to run and make a change. While the November 3, 2026, election is still more than 500 days away, he said it was important to get his name out there early and start building a base. He said it will be challenging to run in a predominantly red district, but that he believes voters need another option. Especially after U.S. Congressman Dale Strong won re-election in 2024 after running unopposed. 'He won the election by default,' Devito told News 19. At a speaking engagement in Athens on Monday, U.S. Representative Dale Strong told a News 19 reporter that he does plan to run in 2026. 'I'll be on the ballot in the next election, and I believe our republic is alive and well,' Rep. Strong said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Rep. Dale Strong provides Washington Update at Athens State University

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — Rep. Dale Strong stopped in Athens Monday to provide an update on what he's been doing in Washington, D.C. Strong said he hopes to focus resources at the southern border, saying equipment is needed to keep people safe from fentanyl. Alabama announces new lock feature for EBT cards He will also prioritize defense spending. He said he believes North Alabama contractors are ready to support military needs. 'It's cost-effective to do business here,' Strong said. 'I think that growth will continue in our community.' The congressman said, following a visit from FBI Director Kash Patel, some House Republicans are showing support for expanding the number of federal workers and members of the military on Redstone Arsenal. Hundreds of FBI jobs are on their way to Huntsville, and Strong said bringing Space Command to the Arsenal could create as many as 3,000 jobs directly and indirectly supporting operations. 'They're going to bring forward the secretary of the Air Force this week or next week,' Strong said. 'That right there also starts the process to bring the US Secretary of the Air Force, which will then bring a recommendation for Space Command.'Strong received a warm reception from those who attended Monday's program, but several protesters stood outside the ticketed event. 'Not everybody can afford that, especially prices are insane right now,' said Melanie Kolowski, a member of the Purple People Resistance of Alabama. Since March, several Huntsville-based groups have organized a series of protests, asking Strong for a town hall and more transparent communication. 'The message is just come talk to the constituency,' Kolowski said. 'Remember, you know, what you were elected to do.' While protesters have said the community is not getting an opportunity to speak with their congressman, Strong said his message is popular. 'I'm very, very accessible to the people,' Strong said. 'You look at some of those outside, I understand they're frustrated. Every time there's been any communication, they hate Donald Trump. They hate Elon Musk. They're also reeling from they've lost every seat from the courthouse to the state house to Washington. And so, you know, most of them are trying to get their game together.' Washington Post article hyping anti-DOGE protesters in deep red state omits crucial details

FIRST ON FOX: An article on the Washington Post's newspaper cover highlighting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) opposition from Republican and Independent protesters at an event in Alabama failed to point out that several protesters featured in the story were Democratic donors who have espoused left-wing and anti-Trump views on social media. "Constituents hunt for answers from GOP congressman," a Washington Post headline last week, which also ran online with the headline, "Republicans, independents crave answers from GOP congressman in Alabama," read along with a story explaining how protesters are upset with GOP Rep. Dale Strong about DOGE. Despite framing the story as amplifying criticism from Republicans and Independents, every protester quoted in the story with a first and last name has donated to Democrats, which the article does not point out. Additionally, the article omits that several Democrat donors were included in the article's pictures. Melanie Kolowski, the main protester cited in the story, is described by the Washington Post as "politically independent" and someone who is a "Second Amendment fan" and "proud owner of a Glock 47." Top Financial Officials Sound Alarm On 'Unconscionable' Economic Impact Of Doge Protest Violence: Letter However, a Fox News Digital review of election records shows that she is a registered Democrat in Alabama who has only donated to ActBlue, earmarking donations to Sen. Mitch McConnell's failed Democrat opponent Amy McGrath and the failed Senate campaign of former DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. Read On The Fox News App Kolowski's Facebook account includes posts blasting Elon Musk, accusing Justice Clarence Thomas of wanting to take America back to the time of segregation, and promoting abortion, gay marriage and DEI. In another post from last month, she shared a post from Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist, hyping a rally he and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., hosted together in Denver. The post included a fire emoji and an emoji showing heart eyes. The piece also quotes Michael Bonaker, who the author describes as a "registered Republican." Bonaker is indeed a registered Republican, but FEC records show that he has only donated to Democrats, and he has posted on the social media platform BlueSky that "if you support MAGA and '47, you are a racist." "First, a space x starship disintegrates before our eyes! Second, Waiting for Elon's brain to explode like Samuel L Jackson's character did in Kingman," Bonaker wrote in a BlueSky post. "We are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore! That rings a bell... Proud to peacefully demonstrate with my closest progressive minded friends," he wrote in another BlueSky post. "Even in our racist red state." "It's hard to be sympathetic to those who voted to put this wanna be dictator into power," he said in another post. Doge Slashes Billions More In Expenses For Programs Like Peruvian Climate Change And Gender Equity In Mexico "Next, You love your money way more than your fellow US citizens of differing races and creeds," the post says. "Sit in your evangelical pew and make your false prayers in the name of Jesus. One day, Your hypocrisy will be judged and you will deserve your punishment." The Washington Post included a picture in the story with Kolowski holding an upside-down American flag, while Strong spoke at the event with the caption, "Kolowski held a silent protest with Zeb Lemon, left, and Jeremy Devito as Strong spoke at the defense contractor event." FEC records show that Lemon is also a Democrat donor, and a Fox News Digital review of his social media shows him describing himself as a "leftist." Devito is not only a registered Democrat and Democrat donor in Alabama, but he has filed to run for Congress as a Democrat against Strong. The story featured a comment from another Republican who was only identified as Lynn and a photo of a man named Branson Block with a sign around his neck that said "Make America Think Again."
