Power reforms worth ₹6,000 crore underway in Andhra Pradesh, says Minister

Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Monday said that the State government has taken up several reforms in power sector including aloting ₹6,000 crore to resolve low-voltage problems and improve power supply in the State. He along with Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao and Prakasam District Collector A. Thameem Ansariya laid foundation stone for 33/11 KV electricity substation with ₹3.80 crore at Housing Board Colony in the city. He also inaugurated a 33/11 KV electricity substation constructed at a cost of ₹4.80 crore in Venkateswara Colony. The Minister also participated in 'Suparipalana Lo Tholi Adugu–Intintiki Telugu Desam' programme in Ongole on Monday. He launched Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) works amounting to ₹10.50 crore aimed at strengthening electricity infrastructure in the region. He assured farmers that the government would not install smart meters for agricultural connections in the State and clarified that the smart meters are being installed only for commercial and industrial purposes. Dismissing false propaganda about high billing due to smart meters, the Minister said that any issues will be promptly addressed by the government. He claimed that the previous government had raised the power tariffs nine times, placing undue burden on the people and strongly criticised YSR Congress Party leaders involved in the liquor scam. Mr. Ravi Kumar further said, 'Those who are responsible for manufacturing and distributing substandard liquor that endangered poor people's lives will face strict legal action. The law will take its course and ensure justice. A massive amount of public money was looted through transactions made without records. The masterminds behind this scam will not be able to escape.'

Ongole: Telugu Desam Party state vice-president and Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao inaugurated the Prajavani complaint box at the Kothapatnam Bus Stand centre here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he announced that they are setting up Prajavani complaint boxes at Kothapatnam Bus Stand centre, Addanki Bus Stand centre, and Rangarayudu Cheruvu in the town. He said that the public can bring their grievances and issues through urges and letters, and drop them in the Prajavani boxes. He assured that his office would try to resolve their grievances within 48 hours. He requested the public to utilise the service, along with the Public Grievance Redressal Programme being organised by the government.

Ongole: The Animal Husbandry Department in Prakasam district observed World Zoonoses Day on Sunday by launching a large-scale vaccination programme for pet dogs and other animals. The initiative also focused on raising awareness about zoonotic diseases and the crucial precautions needed to prevent their transmission from animals to humans. Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao inaugurated the mega vaccination drive, urging pet owners to ensure their animals are vaccinated. He emphasised that this measure is vital not only for the pets' health but also for protecting humans from diseases like rabies. District Animal Husbandry Officer B Ravi Kumar highlighted the significance of World Zoonoses Day, stressing that vaccinating all pets is essential to prevent them from spreading diseases that can be fatal to humans. He specified that the rabies vaccine should be administered to dogs once they reach three months of age, while the leptospirosis vaccine is recommended after 45 days. A booster dose for these vaccines should be given annually. Ravi Kumar confirmed that rabies vaccine stock is available at all regional animal hospitals across the district and at the veterinary polyclinic in Ongole.

Youth take pledge to make Prakasam drug-free dist

Ongole: Prakasam district collector A Thameem Ansariya, SP AR Damodar, MLAs Damacharla Janardhana Rao, BN Vijay Kumar, and other dignitaries advised students and youth against becoming slaves to narcotics and ruining their future, calling upon everyone to take a pledge to make Prakasam district drug-free. They participated in the awareness programme with the theme 'Drugs Vaddu Bro' (No Drugs Bro) conducted by the Prakasam district police department as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, in Ongole on Thursday. Speaking at the event, collector Ansariya explained that June 26 is observed annually as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. She highlighted that through the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,' large-scale rallies and awareness sessions are being conducted in colleges and schools to prevent the impact of narcotics on youth. She said that Prakasam district launched the Navodayam 2.0 programme in February this year, and within just four months, the district was declared free from illicit liquor. She said that the government is taking all necessary measures to control and eliminate drug usage in the district, and appealed to all sections of society and voluntary organisations to participate as stakeholders in transforming Prakasam district into a drug-free zone. Addressing the gathering, SP Damodar said with a stern warning about the dangers of drug experimentation. He explained that youth often get attracted to novelty and think of trying drugs 'just once,' which leads them down a dangerous path. The SP emphasised that once caught in drug cases, individuals get their names registered in police records, making it impossible to secure jobs in the future, cannot obtain passports or visas, and lose respect in society. SP Damodar revealed strict enforcement measures against anyone involved in transporting, selling, or consuming illegal drugs. He announced a toll-free number, 1972, Dial 112, or a WhatsApp number, 9121102266, for reporting drug-related information, and assured that informants' details would be kept confidential. Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao emphasised that the state government is conducting large-scale awareness programmes about the adverse effects of drug usage to make the state drug-free. Santhanuthalapadu MLA BN Vijay Kumar highlighted that the state government has set up a special Eagle division to control drug trafficking and usage. He warned that addiction to narcotics affects not only individuals' future and health but also impacts their families. Following the speeches, about 8,000 students, police staff, and youth took a pledge to stay away from narcotics. The programme concluded with a massive rally from the Police Parade Ground to Addanki Bus Stand Centre, in which the collector, SP, MLAs, corporation chairmen, other police officers, and personnel demonstrated collective commitment to creating a drug-free district.

Ongole: About11 lakh people from various walks of life, including students, officials, public representatives, professionals, and common people, participated in 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at nearly 6,500 locations across Prakasam district on Saturday. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, Collector A Thameem Ansariya, Mayor Gangada Sujatha, and others participated in the district-level official programme held at Mini Stadium in Ongole. Speaking on the occasion, MP Srinivasulu Reddy stressed that yoga is a practice that unifies soul, mind, and body, urging everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for better health. He explained that the global celebration of International Yoga Day since June 21, 2014, was the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to share yoga's greatness and benefits with people worldwide. He highlighted Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's prestigious Yogandhra programme, aimed at bringing exceptional yoga knowledge to common people and making everyone healthy. He noted that with two crore people participating in yoga programs across the State at 1.5 lakh locations, Andhra Pradesh was poised to achieve a Guinness World Record. Collector Ansariya expressed special gratitude to officials from all departments, staff, public representatives, and yoga practitioners who contributed to the month-long Yogandhra festival in the district since May 21. MLA Janardhana Rao mentioned that awareness about yoga's benefits was created among people across all regions of the state for a month following the Chief Minister's directives. He emphasised the importance of daily yoga practice beyond this single day of celebration. At the programme held at police parade grounds in Ongole, SP AR Damodar, DSP R Srinivasa Rao, and other police officials participated in the IYD 2025 celebrations. SP Damodar emphasised that yoga practice is one of the primary ways to maintain health without spending any money. He highlighted that yoga is an integral part of Indian culture and represents one of India's valuable gifts to the world. He explained that yoga is not merely about physical postures but encompasses techniques that create balance between body and mind, enhancing one's ability to face life's challenges while improving health and concentration. Additional District Judge T Rajyalakshmi, Additional District Judges T Raja Venkatadri, A Purnima, P Lalita, Principal Senior Civil Judge S Hemalatha, Junior Civil Judges, Bar Association President Boddu Bhaskarao, Administrative Officer Prasannakumari, Superintendent Chakiri Sudhakar, senior advocates, and court staff participated at the celebrations of International Yoga Day in the District Court. The judicial officials underscored yoga's dual benefits of enhancing both physical wellness and mental resilience, reinforcing India's contribution to global health and wellness practices through this ancient discipline. Andhra Kesari University Vice-Chancellor Prof DVR Murthy said that yoga programmes enhance longevity and health for people of all ages without the need for medications during the grand 'Yogandhra' programme organised at University campus. AKU Registrar Professor B Haribabu,Patanjali Yoga Center Director Dr Ravipati Prasad Rao, attended the celebrations as chief guests.
