Damani Leech says Broncos have made changes that take 10 years for other NFL teams
The Denver Broncos have undergone several major changes since being purchased by the Walton-Penner family in 2022. Under the new ownership group, the Broncos have secured a new head coach, a new quarterback, new uniforms, an upgraded stadium and a new facility (coming soon). They are also exploring the possibility of building a new stadium. Those are big changes made in a short period. 'Three seasons in, and for me it's been great," Broncos president Damani Leech said at the NFL's Annual League Meeting in March. "It's been transformative. If you talk to people who've been with the organization for a longer period of time, the things that we've done in a two-and-a-half-year period a lot of clubs around the league get done in about a 10-year window. So it's been quite a sprint, whether that has been stadium renovations, uniform re-launches [or] the new training facility that's underway, a lot of things we're doing. "In addition to that, just what we're doing culturally from a business standpoint. The rigor that we're putting into the decisions we make, the use of data and all of those things is pretty special. It's fun to be a part of.' On the business side, Denver recently hired Daniel Brusilovsky as its new chief technology officer. He will help the club continue to enhase fan and consumer experiences. Above all else, though, winning is the best business strategy for NFL teams -- regardless of the uniforms, stadium or marketing decisions. 'Good football is good for business," Leech said. "I think everybody in the building agrees with that. That starts with ownership. It starts with their mindset of this being a football-first franchise. We talk about it being the best place to play [for], work [for] and cheer for, but it starts with play for. "We very much think about it from a business standpoint, what can we do to make us successful on the field? What are we doing to help us get a win and help us win a Super Bowl? We talk about that. Regardless of the department you're in around the company and around the building, you should be thinking with a football-first mindset.' That football-first mindset has served the team's ownership group well, and the Broncos certainly appear to be trending up since 2022. After making the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2015 last fall, Denver will look to take another step forward in 2025. The uniforms have changed and the stadium might change, but the fans' desire to support a winning franchise will never change. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Broncos president excited about possibility of stadium project
The Denver Broncos have not ruled out staying at Empower Field at Mile High, but there has been widespread speculation that the club will ultimately decide to build a new mega stadium that will attract future events like the Super Bowl. The Broncos have not made any announcement yet -- speculation of a new stadium is merely speculation -- but team president Damani Leech has admitted the thought of a new stadium project does excite him. Advertisement 'I love this role, and I love this job," Leech said in March. "Part of what I love so much about it is making things better. Not just for myself, but for our staff and also for our fans. A stadium is a signature opportunity and moment to do that and be a part of it. "You talk to other colleagues who've been involved in stadium projects, and they talk about it. It's transformational for their career. It's a special moment. Given the life cycle of a stadium, you're lucky if you get a chance to be a part of it just once in your career. So that alone is pretty exciting.' The team's current stadium lease runs through the 2030 season, and it usually takes about four years to build a stadium. So if Denver opts to build a stadium from scratch, a decision might arrive soon. Leech will be eager to be at the forefront of that project, should the team decide to take that step. Broncos president Damani Leech discussing stadium options with NFL teams
Broncos president Damani Leech discussing stadium options with NFL teams While the Denver Broncos are considering their stadium options, team president Damani Leech has been consulting other executives around the league about upcoming decisions. 'Absolutely," Leech said while speaking at the NFL's Annual League Meeting on March 31. "Informally, you do that as you talk to people in the hallways, but also formally. We spent probably two hours on that topic yesterday as a group of club presidents talking about stadiums, both the ones who recently built stadiums, [such as] Vegas and [Los Angeles]. What are some of their learnings? "Even Minnesota, what are some of the learnings that they're having? Teams that are currently building stadiums, [like] Buffalo and Tennessee. Where they are, what they're learning, what they're going through. Then obviously, I think there's a large number of teams that are looking at their stadiums from a life standpoint and trying to think about what the future might be.' The Broncos have emphasized that no stadium decision has been made yet, but many fans and pundits expect the team to build a new super stadium. Owner and CEO Greg Penner has specifically mentioned Lone Tree, Aurora and downtown Denver as potential locations if the team does build a stadium. The team's current lease at Empower Field at Mile High expires after the 2030 season, so if it takes four years to build a new stadium, a decision might be coming soon.
