Oman: Construction of Wadi Baiha Dam in Yanqul completed
Muscat: The construction work of the Wadi Baiha Dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul, Al Dhahirah Governorate, has been completed. The dam was built through community efforts and under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources at a cost of approximately OMR60,000. Salem bin Hamid Al Badi, the supervisor of the dam construction, said that the length of the dam is 53 metres, its height is 11 metres, and its storage capacity is about 33,000 gallons. The construction process, which took 235 days, utilised reinforced concrete materials, stones, filters, and other materials, he said, adding that the length of the valley that feeds the dam is about 12 kilometres. He added that the dam was built according to the highest standards for dam construction in the Sultanate of Oman, with a specialised team from the Dams Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources supervising field and construction work, as well as the design and implementation phases of the dam, in accordance with applicable procedures. Regarding the benefits of the dam, he explained that when the dam is filled with water from the flow of the valleys, it will feed a number of villages and towns, including the village of 'Bayhaa' and 'Al-Waqba' and other villages near the dam. Construction of Wadi Baiha Dam in Al Dhahirah completed
Yanqul: Field and construction work on Wadi Baiha Dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul in Al Dhahirah Governorate, are now complete, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources announced on Wednesday. The dam was built by community and civil efforts, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources at an estimated cost of RO 60,000. Salem bin Humaid al Badi, the dam construction supervisor, said that the dam is 53 metres long and 11 metres high, with a storage capacity of 33,000 gallons. It was constructed in 235 days by using reinforced concrete, stones, filters, and other construction materials. He added that the length of the valley feeding the dam is about 12 kilometres. Al Badi noted that the dam was built in accordance to the highest standards for dam construction in the Sultanate of Oman. A specialized team from the Dams Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is supervising the field and construction work as well as the design and implementation phases of the dam. Once the dam is filled with water, it will provide water supply to a number of villages and towns, Al Badi said noting that the dam is situated in one of the best-known tourist destination in Al Dhahirah Governorate and it will boost tourism activities especially for adventure enthusiasts, mountaineers, and nature lovers.

The Dams Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources oversaw the design, implementation, and fieldwork throughout all phases of the project, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and procedures. The Wadi Baiha Dam is set to provide essential water supply to a number of local villages, including Bayhaa, Waqba, and other nearby areas. Once filled with water, the dam is also expected to enhance the region's appeal as a tourist destination. Wadi Al Jifnain dam inaugurated in Seeb
Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources celebrated the opening of Wadi Al Jifnain Dam in the Wilayat of Seeb on Monday. The ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences. Speaking at the ceremony, Eng. Ali bin Mohammed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Water Resources, stressed the significance of the dam which, he said, is an integrated system for protecting adjoining areas against flood risks. As many as 200 dams have so far been set up in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, said Al Abri, noting that the projects included groundwater recharge dams, surface storage aquifers and flood protection dikes. It took 3 years to implement Wadi Al Jifnain Dam project. Eng. Yousef bin Masoud Al Manthari, Director of the Dams Department at the Ministry, said that the dam seeks to protect commercial and residential areas of Al Khoudh, Al Hail and Al Mawaleh in Muscat Governorate. The project, implemented in accordance with standard hydrological studies, boasts advanced technologies comprising flexible concrete structures, water control systems and modern devices to monitor water levels. He added that Wadi Al Jifnain Dam project, which cost RO 45.6 million, included construction and infrastructure tasks carried out within the scheduled timeframe under the supervision of a specialized consultant to ensure adherence to quality standards. At the conclusion of the ceremony, HH Sayyid Harib unveiled the plaque and the attendees took tour of the project. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, senior government officials and members of the State Council. -ONA
