Rooney signs new full-time Truro City contract

Midfielder Dan Rooney has become the fourth Truro City player this week to sign a new deal. The 26-year-old former Plymouth Argyle youngster will go full-time after the club's promotion to the National returned to Truro two years ago after a spell with Plymouth Parkway and has also spent time at Bath City. Will Dean, Tyler Love-Holmes and Dan Lavercombe have also agreed new deals with The Tinners this week. "For me it was a no brainer to sign on," Rooney told the club website. "The last couple of months of the season, I hit some form as I found my position and at the moment, I am absolutely buzzing."There is always pressure when your contract is up. But I felt confident I would get a new deal, even though getting promoted means we are going full-time."The opportunity to become a professional full-time footballer again is an opportunity that not many people get. 'Leaving my job and going back into full-time football is a risk, but when I weighed things up, there were lots of pros and no cons.'

(Official White House Photo by Andrea Hanks) The Pittsburgh Steelers have responded via e-mail to fans upset about the appearance of current and former players at a rally held by President Donald Trump on Friday, asserting that they did not represent the team and that players are free to support political candidates of their choosing. Steelers starting quarterback Mason Rudolph, special teams captain Miles Killebrew and Hall of Honor member Rocky Bleier joined Trump on stage during the rally at U.S. Steel's Irvin Works plant in West Mifflin on Friday. The rally was put together to celebrate Trump's proposed deal to allow the merger between U.S. Steel and Japan-based Nippon Steel to go thr Advertisement Bleier presented Trump with a Steelers jersey with the No. 47 on the back, and called him an 'honorary Steeler,' while Trump feted Rudolph during his remarks to the crowd. 'I happen to think a really good quarterback is a man named Mason Rudolph,' Trump said. 'I think he's going to get a big shot. He's tall, he's handsome, got a great arm, and I have a feel he's gonna be the guy.' The Steelers responded via e-mail to fans and season ticket holders that had reached out, upset about the players' appearance alongside Trump. Steelers Now obtained a copy of the e-mail. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported of its existence. 'We understand that a recent rally in Pittsburgh has generated a range of reactions from our fan base. Our alumni and current players make their own individual decisions that reflect their views, and they do not necessarily represent the view of the entire Pittsburgh Steelers organization.' Advertisement The Rooney family has political ties on both sides of the aisle, with former chairman Dan Rooney serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland under President Barack Obama. Before his support for Obama and service in his administration, Dan Rooney had been a staunch Republican. Patrick Rooney Jr. and Tom Rooney, both nephews of Dan Rooney, have served as Republican legislators from Florida. Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis campaigned for Kamala Harris leading up to the 2024 election, and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz held an event at Acrisure Stadium. Former Steelers Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell supported Trump and spoke at a campaign event in Western Pa., before Trump attended a Steelers game against the New York Jets last season. How Indianapolis Colts will pay tribute to Jim Irsay. Here's what we know

Jim Irsay, owner and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts, died at age 65. On Wednesday, the team publicly confirmed the bad news. 'We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon,' Colts' said in an X post. Now, if you are wondering, will the Colts pay tribute to their late owner? Yes, they will, but how that is under the wrap. Teams often hold private memorials for staff and players. Public memorial services may also be organised for fans to pay their respects. Irsay has been leading the Colts since 1997 after his father, Robert Irsay, died. 'He worked in every department before he was named the youngest general manager in team history in 1984 when the Colts arrived in Indianapolis. Steelers, Vikings Have Plenty of International History

Team flags are displayed on the field ahead of the NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings at Wembley Stadium, London, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013. (AP Photo/Nicky Hayes, NFL UK) The last time the Steelers played overseas, they lost to the Minnesota Vikings–sparking a new era of Steelers football. The Pittsburgh Steelers learned on Tuesday they will be playing host to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 of their highly anticipated game in Ireland. The contest will make history as the first regular-season NFL game played in Ireland. Ironically, the last time the Steelers played across the pond, they also played against the Vikings. Advertisement Minnesota, of course, was the designated host of that matchup. In the 2013 preseason, the game looked like a promising battle between two fringe playoff teams. The Steelers missed the postseason the previous year while the Vikings managed to squeak in, losing their wildcard battle in Green Bay. (AP Photo/Matt Dunham) Instead, both teams entered the game 0-3, desperately looking to get their first win of the season. Both the Vikings and Steelers had offensive debuts on tap with Matt Cassell going under center for Minnesota. Pittsburgh debuted what would be the start of a memorable run with the debut of second-round running back Le'Veon Bell. Cassell led the Vikings to a quick 10-0 lead following a 70-yard touchdown strike to Greg Jennings. Ben Roethlisberger would answer by leading the Steelers down the field, which capped off with Bell's first career score–an eight-yard run to cap off an eight-play, 75-yard drive. Advertisement Pittsburgh's defense, going through transition, had a difficult time keeping up with the Minnesota offense, allowing a 60-yard Adrian Peterson touchdown run shortly after. Following another Viking field goal, Roethlisberger's squad found themselves down 20-10 at the half. FILE – In this Oct. 1, 2017, file photo, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell (26) carries the ball during the second half of an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. (AP Photo/Gail Burton, File) Though Bell scored his second touchdown of the game to open the second half, Peterson answered with a second touchdown run of his own. Eventually, Minnesota pulled ahead 34-17 and staved the Steelers off in a 34-24 victory in London. The loss dropped Pittsburgh to 0-4, and both teams eventually missed the postseason. The Vikings finished 5-10-1, fired head coach Leslie Frazier, and hired Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer as their new head coach. Advertisement The Steelers, however, finished their season 8-8 and barely missed the postseason. Roethlisberger, Bell, and Antonio Brown elevated late in the season, leading to the 'Killer B's' era. The trio, along with a young and rising offensive line, would become a strength for the Steel City. This year, it may be unlikely to see a future ignite like we observed 12 years ago. However, the matchup in Ireland will be a big welcome for the black and gold. Not only for the viewing pleasure of Steelers fans, but the loyalty of the Rooney family to the Emerald Isle.
