WORLDWIDE ENTECH CHAMPIONS WASTE-TO-ENERGY INNOVATION IN MALAYSIA

AM KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- Worldwide Entech Sdn Bhd is taking the lead in promoting Waste-to-Energy (WTE) technology as a pivotal solution in addressing Malaysia's growing waste management and climate challenges. Worldwide Entech general manager Danial Liew Jin Sheon said Malaysia generates over 38,000 tonnes of solid waste daily, with 137 landfills currently operational nationwide. 'However, only 21 are classified as sanitary, while the remaining 126 non-sanitary landfills continue to release untreated methane and leachate into the environment,' he said in a statement. Recognising the urgent need for a scalable and integrated solution, Danial said Worldwide Entech, a subsidiary of Worldwide Holdings Berhad, is positioning WTE as a key innovation that reduces waste volume, mitigates climate impact, and contributes to national energy production. 'WTE technology offers a safe, clean method to convert residual, non-recyclable waste into electricity through controlled combustion. 'One tonne of waste processed in a WTE facility can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane, which is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide,' Danial said. He noted that as part of supporting the 12th Malaysia Plan and the national target of achieving a 40 per cent recycling rate by 2025, the company also offers full-spectrum waste infrastructure solutions. 'This includes the design, construction, operation, and aftercare of sanitary landfills; leachate treatment plants to prevent groundwater contamination; landfill gas (LFG) recovery systems that reduce methane emissions and produce energy. 'It also includes rehabilitation of old dumpsites to meet environmental safety standards and waste transfer stations that improve efficiency and reduce emissions in logistics,' he said.
