Daniel Cormier unsure Justin Gaethje's retirement threat will work with UFC
Daniel Cormier has questions about Justin Gaethje's approach with the UFC. Gaethje (26-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) is adamant he should be next in line for UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria after doing the promotion a solid on a couple of occasions. The issue for Gaethje is he's in the running with the likes of Max Holloway, Arman Tsarukyan, and possibly Paddy Pimblett, as well. Gaethje said if the UFC tries to match him up with Pimblett, he doesn't believe they need him anymore. He even threatened to retire if he doesn't get his way, which UFC CEO Dana White called "pretty whacky." Cormier advises Gaethje against making ultimatums with the UFC. "It sounds like he's more than willing now to stand by that and be done," Cormier said on his YouTube channel. "That would suck because MMA is better when Justin Gaethje is fighting. We just had to watch Dustin Poirier retire last weekend and that absolutely sucked. So, what's going to happen this time? We have to walk away from Justin Gaethje, too? That era of fighters that we all fell in love with so much are starting to take the curtain call and go, 'Hey, my time is done. This game is done with me or I'm done with this game.' "Justin seems very, very stern in the idea that if he has to fight Paddy Pimblett, and that's the only option, he's not going to do it. That sucks because I don't know that it's going to make the UFC say, 'We have to give Justin Gaethje a title fight.' I don't know that they're going to do that, especially when you go through all the things that Arman has a case, Paddy has a case." In a recent interview, Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) said he thinks his first title challenger will either be Gaethje or Pimblett, who he faced off with in the octagon after knocking out Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 in June. ‘He's In So Much Trouble' - Brock Lesnar 'Banned' From Major Sport
'He's In So Much Trouble' - Brock Lesnar 'Banned' From Major Sport originally appeared on The Spun. For over 20 years Brock Lesnar has been hailed as one of the most entertaining people in combat sports and professional wrestling. But according to one insider, he won't be getting work in one major sport anytime soon. Appearing on the MightyCast with Demetrious Johnson, former UFC champion Daniel Cormier revealed that Lesnar is currently banned from professional wrestling everywhere. Cormier said that he could not detail what Lesnar did to get into trouble, but simply stated that he's in "so much trouble." 'Brock is on the banned list right now,' Cormier said. 'Brock got into so much trouble. You know what Brock did. I ain't telling you on air what Brock did. Brock is in so much trouble.' Many fans and news outlets have speculated that the ban stems from Lesnar being named in the sexual assault and trafficking lawsuit against former WWE top executive Vince McMahon. Some very damning text messages that were allegedly from Lesnar were made public during the initial stages of the suit. It stands to reason that WWE might treat Lesnar as radioactive while the lawsuit is dealt with given the allegations against him. The controversy all started early in 2024 when former WWE employee Janel Grant alleged and shared evidence that she had been coerced into a sexual relationship with McMahon and later trafficked to Lesnar and former WWE executive John Laurinaitis between 2020 and 2021. Lesnar was subsequently removed from all upcoming WWE programming, all promotional materials and has seldom been mentioned by the company in a year-and-a-half. That said, it really isn't clear how Cormier - who is not a WWE-specific insider - would know whether Lesnar is banned from all of professional wrestling. It's a pretty big umbrella category that goes well beyond WWE or even its immediate rivals here in the United States. It's probably a good thing that Lesnar has been more focused on his daughter Mya's collegiate athletics career as a shot-put star. Being a supportive father in public and avoiding any headlines of his own can only help him while the legal system does its thing.'He's In So Much Trouble' - Brock Lesnar 'Banned' From Major Sport first appeared on The Spun on Jul 22, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 22, 2025, where it first appeared.

Joe Rogan Called 'Disrespectful' for Skipping Major Event
Joe Rogan Called 'Disrespectful' for Skipping Major Event originally appeared on Men's Fitness. Joe Rogan's absence from the commentary booth for UFC 318 has left fans scratching their heads in confusion, calling the decision "disrespectful." Mixed martial arts' top promotion returns to Louisiana on July 19 for UFC 318, where Dustin Poirier will step into the Octagon for the final time. As MMA Junkie shared in an Instagram post, Jon Anik, Paul Felder, and Daniel Cormier will be holding down commentary for UFC 318. Rogan doesn't travel to international events, but with this one being a U.S.-based pay-per-view event, UFC fans were shocked to see Rogan not attending. According to Bloody Elbow, this would mark Rogan's first absence for a U.S.-based pay-per-view event since 2022."Damn…kinda sad we won't see Rogan interview DP for his final fight. I think that's kind of disrespectful honestly. DP is a legend, the card may not be the best but respect what this man's done," one Instagram user wrote on MMA Junkie's post. "No f------ way Joe Rogan is gonna miss DPs retirement fight," another user commented. But, some have come to Rogan's defense, speculating that he may be in the crowd for the event rather than on the mic. "I wouldn't be surprised if Joe is there to watch Dustin fight one last time with his boy Theo. Actually enjoy watching one of the greatest fighters ever wrap up his career with his friends," CBS and Showtime analyst Josh Thompson tweeted. After a nearly 20-year MMA career, Poirier will face Max Holloway for his retirement match at UFC 318. It will be their third matchup, taking place near Poirier's hometown of Lafeyette, Rogan Called 'Disrespectful' for Skipping Major Event first appeared on Men's Fitness on Jul 16, 2025 This story was originally reported by Men's Fitness on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared. Daniel Cormier claims Brock Lesnar is on a TKO ban list
There's been very little in the way of news regarding Brock Lesnar and his status with WWE in the fallout of his being named in a lawsuit by former employee Janel Grant. For some time now, all signs have pointed to his not returning for a while, if ever. Now, an interview Daniel Cormier did with Demetrious Johnson earlier this week is making the rounds with comments from the former that Lesnar is straight up banned by TKO (via 'I mean, Brock is on a banned list right now. Brock got into so much trouble…I ain't telling you on air what Brock did. Brock is in so much trouble.' It's entirely possible Cormier was speaking more generally, that Lesnar is simply out right now and not necessary on an actual banned list or if there even is one. Either way, it tracks with all the other news we've heard about the big fellow. There's no reason to expect him back, in WWE or UFC, anytime soon. UFC 318 video: Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier faceoff overseen by Daniel Cormier
NEW ORLEANS – Familiar foes Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier squared up against ahead of their third career encounter at Thursday's UFC 318 pre-fight press conference. BMF titleholder Holloway will serve as the retirement-fight opponent for Poirier on Saturday at Smoothie King Center in Louisiana (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+), also giving "Blessed" a chance to avenge a pair of losses the "The Diamond" from February 2012 and April 2019. Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC) has other plans, however, because he will try to end his career on a high by both winning his final fight and taking the BMF strap off Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) to go three-up in their head-to-head series. Although both men have expressed the utmost respect for each other since the matchup was booked, the intensity was obvious when they stood face-to-face. As a special touch for Louisiana, Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier stood between both men. Check out the video above to see the UFC 318 press conference faceoff between Holloway and Poirier.
