Woman, 40, charged with teen's murder
A woman has been charged with the murder of a teen after the pair were found together 'semi-conscious' at a home in suburban Brisbane. The 40-year-old woman and the 18-year-old man were found at a Marbura Court home in Daisy Hill - about 26km south of the city's CBD - at about 3pm on May 30. 'The 18-year-old man was transported to hospital, where he remained in an induced coma before passing away on June 4,' the Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement. 'The woman was also transported to hospital, where she remained in an induced coma before recovering on June 1.' The woman and the man were known to each other, police have confirmed. Homicide detectives established a crime scene at the residence. The woman was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charge was upgraded to murder on Wednesday. The woman, from Daisy Hill, was due to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Detective Senior Sergeant Daniel Cunningham said the investigation involved close collaboration between specialist units. 'This is an incredibly tragic case that has had a devastating impact on all involved,' he said. 'Our investigators have worked methodically to gather evidence and support the (alleged) victim's extended family through this complex and confronting investigation. 'Our thoughts are with the young man's loved ones and those in the community who continue to grieve this loss.'

Innocent Sacramento driver killed in police chase moved to U.S. to pursue American Dream, family says
SACRAMENTO – Family members of the innocent driver killed in a high-speed police chase in Sacramento have identified him as Nguyễn Huỳnh Hữu Đức, or Duc Nguyen. Nguyen, 30, immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam four years ago for a better life and he was studying engineering. Family said he was working as a DoorDash driver when his car was hit during the police chase. MUOI DUC NGUYEN CBS13 obtained dash camera video showing the suspect vehicle speeding through a red light, colliding with Nguyen's car and then flying head-on into oncoming traffic. Sacramento police were chasing 33-year-old Daniel Cunningham, who was a wanted domestic violence suspect and parole violator. Police said that after he crashed, he got out of his car and tried to run away from the seven mangled cars before he was arrested. "They did have an initial right to pursue this man," said local attorney, unrelated to the case, Justin Ward. Ward said police pursuits take into account the safety of the public. "If there's a likelihood that the public will be injured or killed, they are supposed to stop pursuing that vehicle," Ward said. The suspect police were chasing could now face murder or manslaughter charges, according to Ward. CBS13 reviewed the Sacramento Police Department's pursuit protocol that says officers must consider if the pursuit is reasonable with regard to posted and safe speed limits and road, weather and traffic conditions. A spokesperson from the department could not tell CBS13 why their helicopter was not used and said they do not use drones to chase cars. The CHP is now investigating the police pursuit and deadly crash. CBS 3 spent hours with the mourning family on Sunday afternoon as over a dozen people gathered to pray for their loved one who was killed. The family brought Nguyen's favorite things to the intersection at Florin Road and called in monks to conduct a prayer to bring his soul home. People in the Pocket neighborhood stopped by to pay their respects, including the former Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg with his wife. As family and friends of Nguyen are beginning the painful process of mourning this sudden loss of a Sacramento man whose move here for the American dream turned deadly. MUOI DUC NGUYEN Family said Nguyen's wife was months away from joining him in America and they were preparing to start a family.

Innocent bystander dies in crash linked to police pursuit for domestic violence
( — The Sacramento Police Department released more information on Saturday night after an innocent bystander died after being involved in a 7-vehicle crash that was caused by a man who fled from police after a June 1 domestic call. According to SPD, on June 1, officers received a report of domestic violence in the 7300 block of Farm Dale Way. The suspect has been identified as Daniel Cunningham, 33, of Sacramento, who fled before officers arrived at the scene. At around 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning, SPD stated that the officers were called back 7300 block of Farm Dale Way for a request for a civil standby. The victim from June 1, who police said was assaulted by Cunningham, called and requested assistance to gather her stuff from the home. An officer conducted records checks and had determined that Cunningham was a parolee at large who had an active felony warrant for his arrest, SPD said. While the officers were on scene, another officer saw that he was in a vehicle close by. Bystander dies in 7-vehicle crash amid high-speed police chase in Sacramento 'This suspect had a fresh domestic violence want for his arrest,' said an SPD Officer Anthony Gamble. 'He was also a parolee at large, and so our officers had an obligation to bring this person to justice.' At this time, officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to attempt to stop the vehicle, but Cunningham failed to yield to the officers, which started a small pursuit, according to SPD. The officers lost sight of his vehicle. Gamble said, 'He made the decision to run, he made the decision to drive at a high rate of speed. He put himself and everyone else's lives in danger by his actions, and he caused this collision that took the life of someone who was not involved in this whatsoever.' The vehicle traveled westbound on Florin Road and ultimately crashed into seven vehicles at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive in South Sacramento, SPD said. An adult male who was in one of the vehicles that was struck by Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel. SPD stated that Cunningham fled from the vehicle on foot but was arrested by officers and a K9. He was then taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and has been cleared for incarceration. Cunningham has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to parole violation, domestic violence, and felony pursuit charges, according to SPD. Pedestrian dies from injuries sustained in Modesto crash SPD reached out to CHP and requested its Major Accident Investigation Team to conduct a collision investigation to determine if there will be more charges added relating to the crash. The identity of the decedent will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office after the next of kin has been notified, SPD said. Council will 'come down hard' on fly-tippers
A council says it will "come down hard" on fly-tipping after a man who owned a van involved in four separate incidents of illegal waste dumping was jailed. Daniel Cunningham, of no fixed abode, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court earlier in March to plead guilty to breaches of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989. The court heard how a tipper truck belonging to the 35-year-old was involved in the dumping of a variety of waste in services lanes and car parks across Plymouth. He was jailed for two months. Plymouth City Council said the incidents cost it nearly £2,000 to clear up. In all of the incidents, Cunningham had been paid to clear waste by members of the public although he was not registered as a carrier of controlled waste, according to the council. In court, District Judge Haynes said: "People believed you to be licensed but you are not. "You poisoned our environment just for the sake of some money." Cunningham is serving his sentence concurrently with another sentence for an unrelated offence. Tom Briars-Delve, council cabinet member for the environment and street scene, said: "Fly-tipping is a complete blight on our city and we will not hesitate to come down hard on people who think that they are above the law. "Let this also be a gentle reminder to people who may be paying someone to get rid of their waste. "Please make sure that you use a licensed waste carrier, and obtain a waste transfer notice when handing your rubbish over. "If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is."
