US version of Love Island is having to tell its viewers to ‘be kind'
Love Island USA issued a public statement and on-air message urging fans to stop cyberbullying, harassment, and hate directed at contestants.
The show's message, 'THE KEYWORD IN LOVE ISLAND IS... LOVE,' emphasized that while they appreciate fans and islanders, they do not tolerate online negativity.
This call for kindness followed increased online backlash against contestants, particularly after fan-favorite islanders were voted off, leading to accusations against others like Ace Greene.
Host Ariana Madix previously addressed the issue, warning viewers against contacting families, doxing, or posting rude comments on islanders' pages.
Former contestant Daniela Ortiz Rivera and a contestant's ex-boyfriend, Noah Sheline, also spoke out, highlighting the severe mental health impact of online hate, with Rivera noting that many former cast members discussed suicide.
