Maoists deny reports on Damodar's surrender, distance themselves from threat letter to Minister Seethakka
The CPI (Maoist) Telangana State Committee has distanced itself from a recent letter published in a section of the media, threatening Mulugu MLA and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Dansari Anasuya (Seethakka) in the name of their Telangana State Committee. The letter criticised Seethakka for allegedly neglecting tribal rights, but the party clarified that it had no connection with the letter, a statement issued on Saturday in the name of the party Telangana spokesperson Jagan said. The committee claimed that reports of Damodar's surrender or death have been repeatedly spread by the police. Such reports are a 'deliberate misinformation campaign' carried out by the police as part of a psychological warfare to confuse the revolutionary forces. The Maoists highlighted the contradiction between the Congress government's stance on Maoist issue. While the Congress government has declared the Maoist problem as a social and political issue that cannot be resolved through repression and is demanding that the Central government stop encounters, the police are harassing innocent tribals in Mulugu, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and Asifabad districts by summoning them to police stations. The Maoist party urged the people to take note of this disparity.

HYDERABAD: Early marriage and motherhood continue to pose serious challenges in Telangana, with 16% of women from the Younger Cohort (YC) (born in 2001-02) married before the legal age of 18 and 22% becoming mothers by age 19. These findings are part of the preliminary results from the 'Young Lives Round 7 Survey (2023-24)', unveiled on Friday by Women and Child Welfare Minister Dansari Anasuya, alias Seethakka, at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) in Hyderabad. In India, it focuses on the undivided Andhra Pradesh, covering 20 mandals — 13 in Andhra Pradesh and 7 in Telangana. The Telangana districts included in the latest round are Karimnagar, Bhupalpally, Nagarkurnool, Mahbubnagar, Jogulamba Gadwal and Hyderabad, with 948 participants across 33 villages. As of the 2023-24 round, the Younger Cohort participants are now 22-years-old, while members of the Older Cohort — who were eight years old at the start of the study — are now 29.

Telangana government to provide loans worth Rs 19K crore to 3.55 lakh SHGs
HYDERABAD: The government has set a target of providing loans worth Rs 19,838.58 crore to 3,55,138 self-help groups (SHGs) in Telangana in 2025-26. Women & Child Welfare Minister Dansari Anasuya alias Seethakka revealed this during the unveiling of the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) Annual Action Plan for 2025-26 held in Hyderabad on Thursday. The minister also launched an information booklet aimed at promoting financial literacy among members of SHGs. Describing the action plan as a roadmap for women's economic empowerment through bank linkages, Seethakka highlighted last year's success, noting that SHGs exceeded credit targets and secured an additional Rs 5,000 crore in loans. She emphasised that SHGs have proven their creditworthiness, with a repayment rate of 98.5%, which outpaces even that of large corporate borrowers. 'Just as we successfully implemented last year's plan, I am confident we will achieve the goals set for this year as well,' she said, while urging banks to continue their cooperation in providing credit to SHGs. Seethakka concluded by promising that every rupee borrowed this financial year by women's groups will be repaid without a single rupee becoming an NPA.

Financial mess handiwork of previous govt: Seethakka
HYDERABAD: Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister Dansari Anasuya alias Seethakka on Tuesday lashed out at BRS working president KT Rama Rao for making unwarranted comments against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Speaking to reporters after having lunch at the residence of a fine rice scheme beneficiary at Patigadda in Hyderabad, the minister dared BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to 'come to Assembly and show his power if he wants'. While accusing the BRS of failing to fulfil the promises it made to the people during its regime, she said that the present Congress government was implementing the superfine rice scheme though it was not mentioned its poll manifesto. 'Because of the loans taken by the previous BRS government, our government is facing many financial problems. Our government is paying Rs 6,000 crore every month towards the interest and principal for loans taken by the previous government,' she added.

Telangana government plans Rs 4,000 aid for kids in foster care
HYDERABAD: The state government is going to the rescue of the children in foster care, particularly those who have lost their biological parents. It is initiating measures to strengthen care, sponsorship and post-institutional rehabilitation for orphans. The cornerstone of the proposed policy is a new financial assistance scheme that would offer `4,000 per month to families or guardians who take in orphaned children under temporary custody or guardianship. Speaking to TNIE, the officials from the Department of Women and Child Welfare, headed by Minister Dansari Anasuya alias Seethakka, said that the initiative is under active consideration and is expected to be launched during the current financial year. The government estimates suggest that between 2,500 and 3,500 children could benefit from this targeted foster care initiative. Fostering emotional and social growth The focus, according to departmental sources, is not only on providing shelter but also on fostering emotional and social growth through a family-like environment. 'Orphans often grow up without meaningful relationships. While orphanages offer basic necessities, they sometimes fall short in teaching human values and emotional bonds integral to the Indian family system. This scheme aims to bridge that gap and ensure holistic development,' said a senior official, requesting anonymity. In addition to this proposed foster care support, the government is also looking to expand its existing 'sponsorship' programme, which currently provides financial assistance to over 7,000 vulnerable children living with extended family members. Under this programme, beneficiaries receive Rs 4,000 monthly to cover educational and health-related expenses. Authorities are now considering doubling the number of beneficiaries by the fiscal year 2025-26. Recognizing the challenges faced by orphans as they transition into adulthood, the government is also planning a new post-care initiative designed to support young adults after they age out of institutional care. This transition support programme would aim to equip orphans with life skills and financial assistance to help them move toward independent living. However, it remains to be seen as to when the government will roll out these social-security schemes designed for the wellbeing of the most disadvantaged children.
