Fresh off winning silver and setting scoring record, Damiris Dantas' return gives Fever a full deck

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Fever backup center Damiris Dantas will be making her way back to the U.S. soon after a successful FIBA AmeriCup showing. Dantas has been away from the team since June 25, heading to Chile to play in the FIBA AmeriCup with the Brazilian National Team. She played in six games over eight days and was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso after leading Brazil to a silver medal. Dantas averaged 21.4 points and six rebounds per game on 52% shooting from the field and 36.7% beyond the arc. In the gold medal match against Team USA, she had an AmeriCup-record 35 points. It's been a packed couple weeks for Dantas, who got barely any rest while she was away from the Fever. Coach Stephanie White intends to ease her back into the fold. 'She was incredible,' White said. 'Yeah, she'll need some rest. So, you know, I'm not sure when she'll be available.' Once Dantas returns, the Fever will finally have a full roster. Indiana has only had a full, healthy and available roster for two games this season: dating back to May 22 at Atlanta and May 24 against New York. Other than that, the Fever have had injuries to Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, DeWanna Bonner out for personal reasons then released and Dantas away from the team to compete in AmeriCup. Now, with Clark progressing toward a return from her groin injury this week and Dantas returning from Chile, Indiana will have all 11 players at their disposal. 'This will hopefully, knock on wood, when DD and she is available, this will be the first time that our full roster has been available,' White said. 'And so for us, reintegrating Caitlin, if we don't have any setbacks, reintegrating DD, you know, it changes what our rotation looks like. It changes what our lineup looks like. It does give us a little bit more versatility, but it's going to be a challenge, but something that's necessary for us.' Dantas' return will likely cut into the minutes rookie Makayla Timpson has gotten recently. Timpson has been impressive in her cameos on the court, integrating herself into the rotation and showing off her rebounding and defensive prowess. Dividing up those minutes will be a challenge, as White said, but for the Fever, it's a good challenge to have. Chloe Peterson is the Indiana Fever beat reporter for IndyStar. Indiana Fever standout earns FIBA Women's AmeriCup All-Star 5 honors

After a heartbreaking 92-84 loss to Team USA for Brazil in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup Final on Sunday, which saw Damiris Dantas put up a staggering 35 points, the Indiana Fever power forward was named a part of the tournament's All-Star 5 list Monday morning. In the title game, Dantas' 35 points came off a phenomenal 11-for-19 from the field and 12-for-15 from the free-throw line. The 6-foot-4 Brazilian forward would also register eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in a full 40 minutes of action. Dantas finished the international tournament as the top scorer with a 21.4 points per game average on 52% shooting from the field, 36.7% from 3-point territory, and 75% from the charity stripe in 28:36 of playing time per contest. Dantas will be joined on the All-Star team alongside Brazilian teammate center Kamilla Cardoso, American guards Mikayla Blakes and Hannah Hidalgo, and Canadian guard Syla Swords. While the All-Star selection will not heal the pain of Sunday's loss, Dantas will now return to her depth scoring role with the Indiana Fever, where she averages 5.0 points per game on 38.9% shooting from the field in 13 games played so far this season. While no official word on her availability has been made yet, there is a chance Dantas could be on the bench for head coach Stephanie White and the Fever on Wednesday when they take on the Golden State Valkyries from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Caitlin Clark doesn't want a minutes restriction, and Fever want 'long-term health'

Caitlin Clark doesn't want to be on a minutes restriction when she plays, and Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White knows that. So, when the Fever host the Los Angeles Sparks at 7 p.m. Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Clark will miss her fifth straight game with a left groin injury. Clark didn't practice at full speed Friday, though she did semi-live shooting workouts and 3-on-3 drills. The thought was, White said, Clark would be evaluated Saturday morning to see if she was fit to play later that night. However, the Fever listed Clark as out on the injury report Friday evening. The Fever (9-8) have won three straight games for the first time all season, notably winning the Commissioner's Cup against the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday and then Thursday holding the Las Vegas Aces to their fewest points since 2015. 'She's stated she's not a fan of minute restrictions,' White said after practice Friday. 'If there is going to be a minutes restriction, maybe we'll hold her another game. I prioritize her long-term health and wellness and making sure that when she comes back, she's 100%.' Kelsey Mitchell has been particularly sharp with Clark out. Mitchell is averaging 25.8 points over her last four games, and after shooting 41.3% in her first nine games this season, she's shot 52.3% from the field since. The Fever will need that to continue as the Sparks are the second visitor in a five-game homestand. Indiana will hit the road for two before hosting the WNBA All-Star Game on July 19. The Fever have not had forward Damiris Dantas due to Brazilian National Team obligations for the FIBA Women's Americup. Dantas was reportedly injured in the first half of Friday's game against Mexico but, as reported by Roberta F. Rodrigues, Dantas started the third quarter and a Brazilian federation official said there's nothing serious with her ankle. Dantas was expected to miss the Fever's game Saturday as one of four while away. The 6-foot-4 center in 13 Fever games averaged 5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 12 minutes per game off the bench.

Fever Suspend Player's Contract After Big Roster Decisions on Wednesday

Fever Suspend Player's Contract After Big Roster Decisions on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever made some noise on Wednesday with several roster changes. After being away from the team for five games, forward DeWanna Bonner was waived. Advertisement It turns out she wasn't happy with the "fit" in Indiana after signing as a free agent this past offseason. The 37-year-old, a two-time WNBA champion, has been a consistent starter throughout most of her 16-season career. That wasn't the case during her short stint with the Fever, as she started just three of the nine games she played and saw her minutes drop from 31.8 last season to 21.3 minutes per game. In a corresponding move, Indiana brought back guard Aari McDonald, who previously played three games on a WNBA emergency hardship exception while Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Sydney Colson were dealing with injuries. But that wasn't all for the Fever. According to Chloe Peterson of IndyStar Sports, the team also "officially suspended Damiris Dantas' contract." This move was expected, as she's set to play for the Brazilian National Team at the AmeriCup starting June 28 through July 8. Advertisement Indiana currently only has 10 active players on its roster, but it's likely to make another addition soon. In 13 games played this season, the 6-foot-4 forward averages just 12.3 minutes, 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per contest. Dantas was drafted No. 12 overall in the 2012 WNBA draft by the Minnesota Lynx. Aside from the Lynx and the Fever, she also spent some time early in her career with the Atlanta Dream.
