PENAMPANG: The Moyog state seat now held by Warisan's Datuk Darell Leiking is becoming the subject of a political tussle among Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) components aligned to the ruling coalition, with at least three parties hoping to contest. Vice Head of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Penampang Youth Division, Eldridge Laurence Timis, said the distribution of seats between components must be determined by the higher leadership and not by individuals. 'The Moyog State Legislative Assembly seat has traditionally belonged to Pakatan Harapan (PH) and this is a fact that cannot be denied by any party,' he said. It is understood that GRS is also keen on the seat. Eldridge, who is also Vice-Chief 1 of Angkatan Muda Keadilan Sabah, said that, as enshrined in the spirit and principles of PH, the distribution of seats between coalition components is the absolute right of the PH Presidential Council to be determined finally. Hence, he said, Upko Deputy President Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin's intention to contest in Moyog precedes the official negotiation process within PH. He said all parties in Pakatan Harapan are obliged to respect the seat negotiation process as outlined in the official policy of this coalition. 'Any statement or announcement regarding seat distribution must only be made based on the decision of the PH Presidential Council, not unilaterally by any individual or party. 'Actions beyond this official process can cause confusion among the people and threaten the harmony and strength of the coalition,' he said in a statement, Tuesday. As an ally in PH, he added, PKR had always adhered to this principle and will continue to support any PH candidate who is agreed to contest in the Moyog seat to ensure the victory of this coalition. 'We hope Upko will also continue to respect the spirit of this consensus by giving space to the PH official negotiation process, in line with existing coalition policies and guidelines. 'PKR will not hesitate to defend the rights and position of the PH seat in Moyog based on the official PH consensus that was collectively decided. 'We remind partners in the coalition that any statement or announcement regarding the distribution of seats must be channelled through legitimate PH channels, not unilaterally or speculatively,' he said. "The interests of the coalition must be prioritised over the interests of any party or individual. We stand firm in the principle of consensus, for the sake of common victory!' he explained. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
