Rahul's political drama will not help Cong in Bihar: HAM

Patna: Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) national president and minor water resources minister, Santosh Suman, on Monday termed Congress MP Rahul Gandhi 's announcement of building a house for Dashrath Manjhi's son as a political 'drama'. He said by branding Dashrath Manjhi in Bihar, Congress wants to grab dalit votes. Suman said Rahul's promise to build a permanent house for Bhagirath Manjhi at Gehlaur village in Gaya is motivated by the assembly elections this year. "The NDA govt is dedicated to the poor and has so far provided permanent houses to 4.45 crore poor people under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. A target has been set to build permanent houses for 3 crore more poor people in the country," he said. The HAM minister said the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, who promised to drink 'sattu' with Bhagirath Manjhi and his family, should tell how many dalits could get permanent houses built by the Congress, which ruled the country for decades with their votes. "Is it not true that most dalits were victims of massacre and oppression during the Congress-RJD rule in Bihar?" Suman asked and said the people of Musahar, Bhuiyan and dalit community of Bihar are self-respecting. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List "They know their well-wishers very well. Rahul visits Gaya, Rajgir; meets family of ‘mountain man'

Gaya: In a bid to woo dalit and woman voters ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Gaya and Rajgir on Friday. At both the places, he interacted with people belonging to the extremely backward section. Interacting with a large number of women at the 'mahila samwad' programme, organized at Kandi Nawada in Gaya by the party, Rahul talked about issues like women's rights, education, employment and social participation. He said that the Congress believes that no society can progress without the participation of women. On his way to Rajgir, after reaching at Gaya airport at around 11.30am, he visited the house of 'mountain man' Dashrath Manjhi at Dashrath Nahar and met his family members, including son Bhagirath Manjhi. He then went to Dashrath Manjhi memorial at Gehlaur and paid obeisance to him by garlanding his statue. At Rajgir too, Rahul visited the Jarasandh memorial and garlanded the statue of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar at Ambedkar Chowk and reiterated his commitment towards social justice and equality. This is Rahul's fifth visit to Bihar in the last five months. Earlier, he had visited Darbhanga, Patna, Samastipur and West Champaran. Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee's (BPCC) state representative and spokesperson Bijoy Kumar Mithu said, "Rahul's visit to Gaya and Rajgir and dialogue with extremely backward people and the women besides his participation and initiatives towards 'samwidhan suraksha' will give a new message to extremely backward class people and the women of the state." Sources said that the family of late Dashrath Manjhi have shown willingness to enter the political arena. Bhagirath had earlier met Rahul in Patna. It is learnt that he has shown interest to contest assembly election from Bodh Gaya. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !
