35 Activities Planned For National Unity Week In Penang

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- A vibrant line-up of 35 activities is set to take place during the National Unity Week 2025 celebration, which will be held from July 17 to 20 at the grounds of Stadium Batu Kawan in Penang. The event will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, July 19, at 10.30 am. In a statement today, the Ministry of National Unity said visitors can look forward to a variety of cultural and community-focused programmes. Highlights include the Rumah KAMI ethnic house exhibition, Kadazan Dusun and Orang Asli cultural villages, the Malaysia Tanah Airku showcase, a historical timeline exhibition by the Department of Museums Malaysia, and the Malaysian Library Pavilion. Other key attractions include the Food Unites programme, MADANI sales, handicraft and local product exhibitions, a durian fest, traditional games, an e-sports tournament, the Knowledge Trail, the Penang Book Fair, open-air film screenings, the Open Boria Competition, a Traditional Costume Showcase, and a Primary School Ethnic Dance Competition. Various public services will also be offered during the event, such as traffic summons discounts by the Royal Malaysia Police and Road Transport Department, as well as compound reductions by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP). To further engage the public, exhibitions by government agencies and security forces will be held to help raise awareness about their roles and responsibilities. Adding to the excitement, well-known local artistes including Datuk Awie, Stacy, Jaclyn Victor, Black Hanifah, Shila Zikir, and Suki Low will take the stage, alongside nasyeed groups Hijjaz and Inteam. Children can look forward to a lively musical performance by Didi & Friends, while aspiring talents will have their moment in the spotlight through the Bintang Idol Perpaduan and Battle of the Bands competitions. Held under the theme 'Harmony in Diversity,' the celebration aims to be a key platform for fostering unity among Malaysians of all backgrounds through inclusive and engaging community activities.

The event attracted both domestic tourists and visitors from Singapore and Indonesia, contributing to high hotel occupancy rates and benefiting local businesses, including vendors, restaurants, and ride-hailing services. The carnival, which ran from 10 am to midnight, featured a Special Sale Moment on May 3, where shoppers who spent RM250 or more could win prizes worth over RM20,000. Awie performing at the Tawau Mega concert.-Bernama photo TAWAU (May 11): More than 10,000 people turned up for the Tawau Mega Concert held in conjunction with the Sabah MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at the Tawau Municipal Council Square, here on Saturday night. The concert, held on the main stage of Sabah PMR, featured energetic performances by renowned local artists including Datuk Awie, Stacy, Akim and Felix Agus. The show kicked off at 8.30 pm with an opening act from Felix, a Sabahan singer who made his name in the local music industry through the reality show Akademi Fantasia, performing the song Memori. The energy of the concert, fuelled by the cheers of thousands of fans, continued with performances by husband-and-wife duo Akim and Stacy, who delivered four songs; Jahat, Rampas, Kopi Dangdut, plus Ritma dan Rima. The highlight of the concert was the appearance of national rock legend Datuk Awie, who crooned four songs. Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, rocked the stage with powerful renditions of his hit songs; Sejati, Dipenjara Janji, and Terima Kasih, apart from the song Istana Menanti. Present at the Tawau Mega Concert were the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick (KUSKOP) and the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud. With the theme 'Eradicating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship,' Sabah PMR 2025 is a government initiative led by the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) in collaboration with KUSKOP as the lead ministry and the Sabah State Government as host.
