This takes the total combined weight of carry-on baggage to 10kg. Aurigny Airlines - which connects the Channel Islands - introduced the change following customer feedback. The new size restrictions are for flights from Guernsey to the UK and Europe and are included in an entry fare. According to the BBC, head of ground operations and deputy chief operating officer at Aurigny, Dave Cox, said: "We're proud to offer a class-leading cabin baggage allowance at a time when many other airlines are becoming increasingly restrictive and under the spotlight for this issue. "We understand that people's personal items and belongings matter. "Whether it's a laptop, medication, or just the things that make you feel at home, you shouldn't have to fight for space to bring them." In comparison, easyJet allows a free small bag measuring 45cm x 36cm x 20cm and passengers can then purchase a cabin bag that can measure up to 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Then for Ryanair, passengers can have a free small bag measuring 40cm x 20cm x 25cm and can also purchase a cabin bag, which can measure up to 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. The budget carrier currently allows travellers to have a free bag measuring 40cm x 25cm x 20cm into the cabin. But now, new rules will change this to 40cm x 30cm x 15cm. The new rules are expected to be rolled out later this month. Plus, five great hacks to master hand luggage packing and save serious cash on plane tickets.

Old Town Arts Festival returns: Here's all the events you shouldn't miss

One of Swindon's biggest festivals, which made its comeback last year, is preparing to hit the streets again with over 30 events. The Old Town Arts Festival had been a key event on Swindon's calendar for more than 24 years, but it was put on hold in 2020 when the world entered a global pandemic. After making a successful comeback in 2024, the festival is now preparing to return to town from Saturday, June 1, 2025, for a whole week of free or cheap family events. The festival will kick off at the start of June with a family fun day in Town Gardens offering food, drink, live music, workshops, market stalls and more. Celebrations will then continue throughout the week with a variety of fringe events, all centred around the arts, before concluding on June 8 with a street party for all on Wood Street. Problem underpass and cycle path STILL flooding after complaints

A cycle path and underpass flooded again after Storm Herminia hit Swindon. The Drake's Way Eastern Flyer, accessible from Marlowe Avenue, is currently unusable due to the amount of water filling the tunnel. The route, which has colourful murals decorating its sides, often falls foul of heavy rain as the low-lying path collects rainwater and any overflow from nearby drains. There have been several instances of the route becoming inaccessible due to standing water not draining away from the area, and on one occasion it froze over creating a temporary and dangerous public ice rink. In 2021, one Adver reader sent in photos and said: "Here is the Drakes Way subway. It floods like this every single time it rains heavily. "It has been done for years now and still no action taken to fix it." Part of the issue is that there appears to be an evident confusion of responsibilities for the area. (Image: Dave Cox) In 2022, Thames Water seemed to believe the issue was it's to resolve The utility company said the flooding was caused by a surface water pipe that runs from the underpass down to a local watercourse, which is affected when water levels rise in the stream and then back up the pipe causing flooding to the underpass. It added that it was going to survey to determine if it could lift the last section of the surface water pipe out of the watercourse so that it isn't affected during periods of heavy rain In March 2023, when the brightly painted subway that had been recently painted by a local mural artist was flooded Swindon Borough Council reiterated this when it told the Advertiser it was the responsibility of Thames Water. (Image: Dave Cox) But when the subway was flooded again in 2024, the water company said that it was the responsibility of the borough council. After flooding issues around the whole of Swindon last year, Swindon Borough Council launched an investigation to identify the causes of frequent inundations and also the best way to prevent them in the future. But councillor Chris Watts, the cabinet member in charge, says the first issue is to determine where differing responsibilities lie - with the borough council, with Thames Water or with the Environment Agency. The council is expected to complete the report, known as a Section 19 report, in 2025.
