MLB All-Star Legends Drop Trio Of Unsurprising World Series Predictions

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 08: Former MLB players (L-R) Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Derek Jeter have a laugh during the television pre game show before a game between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Yankee Stadium on June 08, 2024 in New York City. The Dodgers defeated the Yankees 11-3. MoreFOX Sports host Kevin Burkhardt turned to his broadcast partners in the All-Star trio of Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz to get their World Series predictions during Tuesday's postgame coverage. The two former Yankees stars had New York winning its first title since 2009. Both cited trade deadline aggression from general manager Brian Cashman as their reason for picking the Yankees. Jeter tabbed the Yankees to beat the Chicago Cubs while Rodriguez had New York getting revenge against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a rematch of the 2024 World Series. Meanwhile, Ortiz tabbed his former team in the Boston Red Sox to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in a rematch of the 2018 World Series. Ortiz pointed to Boston's 10-game winning streak entering the All-Star break as his reason for picking the ballclub to win it all. These certainly were not groundbreaking predictions with a trio of homer picks from the baseball legends. Nonetheless, MLB has seen plenty of parity throughout the postseason in recent years, which should set up another intriguing playoff run this October. Alex Rodriguez Predicts Winner of 2025 World Series Without Hesitation

Alex Rodriguez Predicts Winner of 2025 World Series Without Hesitation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the MLB All-Star Game wrapping up Wednesday night at Truist Park in Atlanta, it didn't take long for the Fox Sports crew—featuring baseball legends Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, and Alex Rodriguez—to offer their 2025 World Series predictions. Advertisement The second half of the season resumes Friday, and while both leagues feature clear front-runners—the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League and the Detroit Tigers in the American League—the race remains wide open for which teams will make the biggest impact come October and November. Jeter kicked things off by picking his former team, the New York Yankees, to defeat the Chicago Cubs. Ortiz followed by backing his longtime club, the Boston Red Sox. Naturally, Rodriguez kept things interesting by siding with the Yankees as well, predicting they would beat the defending champion Dodgers to capture their 28th title in franchise history. 'Whatever GM, there's going to be a competition of the best front office that makes the boldest moves at the trade deadline,' Rodriguez said. 'And I'm going with the most resources—Yankees and Dodgers. All eyes will be on Brian Cashman to finally get over the L.A. Dodgers in October.' Advertisement Right now, the hottest team in baseball is the Boston Red Sox, riding a 10-game win streak. Despite their surge, they still sit third in the AL East, trailing the New York Yankees in second and the Toronto Blue Jays, who are narrowly holding on to first place. At the All-Star break, the current American League playoff picture features the Tigers, Astros, and Blue Jays as division leaders. The wild card spots are held by the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mariners. In the National League, the Dodgers, Cubs, and Phillies lead their respective divisions, with the Brewers, Mets, and Padres currently occupying the wild card positions. Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Believes Team Should Be 'Aggressive' at Deadline

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox are in an unusual position heading into the final weeks before the trade deadline. Entering Saturday, the Red Sox held a 44-45 record that was good enough for fourth place in the American League East and 2 1/2 games out of a wild card spot. Despite being too good to sell and not good enough to contend currently, team icon David Ortiz told DJ Siddiqi of that he wants his former team to be aggressive at the end of the month. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 10: (L-R) Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is seen with Red Sox hall of fame player David Ortiz in the dugout prior to a game against the Tampa Bay Rays... BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 10: (L-R) Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is seen with Red Sox hall of fame player David Ortiz in the dugout prior to a game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on June 10, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. More"The trade deadline is coming. You start focusing on what you need and what you can get out there," Ortiz told Siddiqi. "There is some money available now, and I guess all they need is to go and be aggressive during this trade deadline. In two months, you can change all that if you go and pick the pieces you need." A rotation headlined by Garrett Crochet was supposed to be the focal point of this Red Sox team, but the group hasn't lived up to expectations. Walker Buehler and Tanner Houck have been major disappointments, leaving the rotation with no more than three quality starters at a time. Ortiz doesn't want the team to panic buy, but he believes moves have to be made. "It's not critical yet," Ortiz was quoted as saying. "I think they're trying to survive into the trade deadline, which is at the end of this month, and go and pick something special that can give them some guidance. I think we'll be all right. I think we can go for the player one. ... Let's see what's available, let's see what people want, let's see if they can get what they need. Because if you look at the division, everybody is three, four, five games apart and there's a lot of games left." The main priority for the Red Sox needs to be holding on to Alex Bregman for the remainder of the season. If he leaves Boston, the team can forget about contention. If the Red Sox can get him and his agent, Scott Boras, to agree to that, then the team now has the resources to splurge after dealing away Rafael Devers' remaining $252 million. Ortiz knows pitching helps teams win, but he is indifferent to how the team attempts to bolster the roster. "I don't have something special in my mind right now," Ortiz told RG. "A good buyer is always good. I think another pitcher, but who knows." Boston will certainly have some tough decisions to make as the trade deadline nears that will alter the state of the franchise beyond the remainder of this year.
