58-acre South Wicklow farm snapped up pre-auction

A 58-acre holding in South Wicklow, featured here on May 28, was due for online public auction on Wednesday June 18, but it was sold beforehand. Located just 1.7km from the village of Knockananna and 11km from Tinahely, the holding was close to the border with Carlow and Wexford, with a public road running through it. The farm was due to be offered in four lots, with David Quinn of Gorey-based auctioneers Quinn Property, describing it as a 'valuable parcel of land' which enjoyed 'an excellent location along the L2004'. The property is in grass with parts of rough grazing and suitable for a number of agricultural uses, with easily accessible fields ideal for grazing or tillage. Prior to the auction, the farm was guiding in the region of €350,000 (€6,000/acre). With such substantial acreage as this, it is unsurprising that the interest pre-auction would be significant. 'There was a nice bit of interest in the property,' Mr Quinn said afterwards, without disclosing what the final price agreed was. He did say, however, it was in excess of the guide price. Former Rangers assistant Dan Muse named coach of division rival Penguins

In a bit of a surprising move, the Pittsburgh Penguins hired former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse to be their new coach Wednesday. The announcement came roughly five weeks after the Penguins parted ways with Mike Sullivan, who was named Rangers coach a week later. In fact, it was believed at the time that Muse could be part of Sullivan's staff in New York, after he worked under Peter Laviolette the past two seasons as a Rangers assistant. Instead, Muse replaced Sullivan in Pittsburgh for his first head coaching opportunity in the NHL. Advertisement To add a further twist to this New York-Pittsburgh coaching connection, former Rangers coach David Quinn, an assistant under Sullivan in Pittsburgh last season, was among those being considered for the Penguins job before Muse was hired Wednesday. It's also been rumored that Quinn could return to the Rangers to be an assistant under Sullivan next season. That Muse landed the Penguins gig was a surprise to many NHL insiders. Former Ottawa Senators coach D.J. Smith and Washington Capitals assistant Mitch Love were thought to be the front-runners to replace Sullivan. 'During this process, we met with many candidates who we felt would have been a fit as the next head coach of the Penguins, but ultimately, Dan Muse stood out as the best choice. What separated Dan was his ability to develop players, win at all levels where he has been a head coach and his consistent success coaching special teams in the NHL,' Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas said in a statement. 'From his success in developing college and junior players, to his impactful work with veteran players during his time in the NHL, Dan has shown a proven ability to connect with players at all stages of their careers and help them to reach their potential.' Advertisement Dubas takes over a team that missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs the past three seasons with Sullivan at the helm, and still has Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson among its core. But hiring the 42-year-old for his first NHL head coaching job may signal a turn in how the Penguins approach the coming seasons, with an eye more toward retooling than trying to build a Stanley Cup contending roster. However, they retained Muse and Michael Peca, and said the assistants would have the opportunity to interview for positions on the new coach's staff. Advertisement Peca joined the Chicago Blackhawks last week to work under new coach Jeff Blashill. It's not known if either Muse or Peca had discussions with Sullivan and/or general manager Chris Drury to remain with the Rangers. Muse, who was also an assistant with the Nashville Predators from 2017-20, has a track record of success developing young players. He was an assistant at Yale, helping the Bulldogs win the NCAA National Championship in 2013, and head coach with Chicago in the USHL, where he led them to the Clark Cup championship in 2017. Muse also coached the United States National Team Development Program, when top Rangers prospect Gabe Perreault exploded for 53 goals and 132 points in 63 games in 2022-23. Among the players he coached at the USNTDP were top Penguins prospect Rutger McGroarty, current New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes and first-round NHL picks Will Smith and Zeev Buium. New York Rangers call David Quinn to rejoin the team but not as a head coach

It's not everyday that a team calls back former head coach after firing them, and its even rarer to see a team calling back a coach and offer them the role of an assistant coach. The New York Rangers called their former coach, David Quinn to join them, not as a head coach, but as an assistant to Mike Sullivan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While the designation of Quinn has been demoted, many expected him not to join the Rangers again. However, it seems Quinn is more than happy to be a part of the New York Rangers. Will this new position affect his performance? Or will he be able to guide the team under Sullivan's umbrella? David Quinn joins New York Rangers as an assistant coach David Quinn was head coach for the New York Rangers from 2018 to 2021, where he guided the team by making important decisions. However, when Chris Drury became the Rangers' General Manager, he fired Quinn from his role, which led to a sour departure on Quinn's side. After getting relieved from the Rangers, Quinn went on to coach the San Jose Sharks from 2022 to 2024, after which he was called back by the Rangers in 2025. But, what made Quinn take this decision/ his last interaction with the Rangers was not exactly roses, but his bond with Mike Sullivan helped the Rangers hire Quinn. Even though the role is smaller than before, it is surprising that Quinn agreed to it. As per news, Joe Sacco and Ty Hennes will fill out the remaining roles. Though it is not made clear as to what designation Sacco and Hennes will get, it is sure that both will be joining the Rangers. The New York Rangers have failed to win the Stanley Cup since 1994. There have been various changes in coaching staff, players, and other tactics were applied, but all to vain. With Mike Sullivan taking on the role of the head coach, there's hope amongst fans that the Rangers will rise again. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mike Sullivan guided the Pittsburgh Penguins and helped them win two Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Besides, Sullivan had also coached Team USA at the 4-Nation's face off, which gives him an edge over other coaches. Another reason as to why Quinn willingly accepted the demoted role was because he had earlier worked with Sullivan in Pittsburgh and Team USA, both in an assistant role. Also Read:

New York Rangers expected to hire David Quinn, Joe Sacco, Ty Hennes as assistant coaches

David Quinn, Joe Sacco and Ty Hennes are all expected to join the New York Rangers staff as assistant coaches under new coach Mike Sullivan, a league source told The Athletic. The Rangers were able to name their assistants when Boston (Marco Sturm) and Pittsburgh (Dan Muse) announced new head coaches this week, taking all three names out of consideration. Quinn and Sacco are both former NHL head coaches. Advertisement The Quinn hire marks a reunion. He was the Rangers' head coach from 2018-19 to 2020-21, compiling a 96-87-25 record. General manager Chris Drury fired Quinn shortly taking over as team president. The 58-year-old coached the San Jose Sharks for two seasons and was one of Sullivan's assistants this past season in Pittsburgh. He'll likely help run the power play in New York. Joe Sacco spent most of last season as Boston's interim head coach after the Bruins fired Jim Montgomery. Before taking over for Montgomery, he spent nine seasons as an assistant coach for the Bruins. He worked closely with the team's penalty kill in Boston and got within one win of getting his name on the Stanley Cup in 2019. He was also the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche for four seasons. Sullivan, Quinn and Sacco were college teammates at Boston University, though Quinn did not appear in any games the year all three overlapped, as he had been diagnosed with a rare disorder that prevented blood from clotting properly. He was still co-captain of the team. Hennes has been under Sullivan his whole NHL coaching career. He started with the Penguins as a skills and skating coach in 2018-19, then moved up to an assistant role in 2022. Sullivan had already retained goaltending coach Jeff Malcolm and skills coach Christian Hmura, both of whom were on Peter Laviolette's Rangers staff last season. Muse, one of Laviolette's assistants, got the Pittsburgh job, and Michael Peca, another Laviolette assistant, went to Chicago. Both Muse and Peca had the opportunity to interview to remain as Rangers assistants after Laviolette's firing, The Athletic previously reported. 35-acre Wexford holding fetches almost €28k/acre at auction

Last featured here just two weeks ago, a 35-acre farm near Gorey, County Wexford, was successfully sold at an online auction last week on Wednesday, May 28. The property had a pre-auction expectation of between €15,000 and €20,000/acre, its location next to the picturesque village of Coolgreaney giving it something of an edge that might bring its value above its purely agricultural usage. The high-quality lands have extensive road frontage and a natural water course. They were in tillage until recently. Prior to the sale, auctioneer David Quinn of Gorey-based Quinn Property said that there were 10 registered bidders – 'mostly local farmers and businessmen.' Lot 1 (4.25 acres) and Lot 2 (30.35 acres) were offered initially, reaching a combined value of €530,000 (€15,100/acre). There appeared to be a stronger appetite for the entire holding (Lot 3). When it was offered to the virtual floor, rapid bidding brought the value to €850,000 (€24,300/acre). Lots 1 and 2 were offered once more and this time the combined value hit €890,000 before another bid on Lot 3 brought it to €910,000. It was only when another round on Lots 1 and 2 brought the combined total to €940,000 that bids on Lot 3 ceased and the property was then declared on the market. Four more bids on Lot 1 brought it to €140,000 (€32,200/acre) and a final bid on Lot 2 resulted in €830,000 (€27,300/acre). With a combined figure of €970,000 (€27,700/acre), it was well in excess of its expectations. Read More Good-value acreage in 58-acre Wicklow farm for June auction
