Bengaluru: A 52-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter was killed after a speeding cement truck knocked her down near the NICE Road entry at Veerabhadranagar junction along Nayandahalli Ring Road on Sunday afternoon. The deceased, Renuka GN, is a resident of BDA Layout in Pattegarapalya. The scooter rider, Kusuma, 32, and Renuka's 9-year-old grandson Mokshit sustained injuries but are reported to be out of danger. The accident occurred around 1pm while the family was en route to a temple. According to Kusuma's complaint, the scooter — a Honda Activa (KA-04-HW-2222) — was heading towards DG Circle from Nayandahalli Ring Road when it was struck from behind by a cement bulker truck (TN-93-J-7988) speeding towards NICE Road. The truck's left front wheel ran over Renuka's legs and abdomen, causing fatal injuries. Kusuma suffered injuries to her right leg and arm, while Mokshit sustained trauma to his eye and nose. Alert commuters rushed the injured to Dayanand Sagar Hospital in Kumaraswamy Layout. However, doctors declared Renuka as dead on arrival. The truck driver was arrested soon after the accident and has been booked under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(A) (act endangering life), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He tested negative on the alcometer.
