Culture of kindness fires up optimistic children
Life is not a walk in the park. Yet, how each one approaches anything and everything is the key. It starts at each one's home where parents use the key. Let's take it from Stephanie Jean P. De Guzman (9), Celine Madison Matondo (10), Angela Jewel Omega (10), Rhoven Azriel V. Vinuya (11), Leianna Samara C. Julaton (10), Chloe T. Tagle (10), Raphaella Grey R. Morata (11), Austineth Jaustine L. Burgos (12), Alexandria Melisse C. Apolinario (9), and Zireh Athena G. Esquivel (10) – collectively known as the BKIDZZZ that represented the UAE in the Junior Category of the 'World Supremacy Battlegrounds 2025' at The Space of the Dubai Investment Park. Unperturbed that the gold got snapped by their fellow Filipinos, the Gboyz Juniors that represented their homeland. That the three-day competition, from July 10 to 13, let them go through the zigzag of emotions against other pre-teens from Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Africa. These third culture kids, with five still in their nappies upon arrival in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, as the rest were born-and-raised in the UAE, demonstrate that this worrisome world, where strife and struggle are definitely components, still has the fighting chance to become a better world. 'Dreams do come true as long as you pray and work hard for it and never give up. I know that my parents will always be there to support me and my siblings,' said Shining Light Academy online Grade 5 student Esquivel. 'It depends on how we look at it. It is already a privilege to be dancing and sharing the stage with all the best around the world. I genuinely feel that I won already, albeit not trophies, but experience, learning, friendship, appreciation and most importantly memories we have created along the way,' said USA-born Matondo. Matondo's parents, Nestor and Maria Cecilia, were so grateful that a few weeks after they landed in the capital in 2011, aside from opportunities to flourish career-wise, they 'found a Christian Filipino community.' Later on were encouraged to have their only child grow into the performing arts. 'We don't see it as losing. We see it as learning. We also got so many cool ideas from other teams. They had different styles and stories to tell. The biggest thing we learnt was how to work together as one family,' said De Guzman. De Guzman is appreciative of her long-time UAE resident parents, Jes and Remi who have jotted down among their to-dos, the regular updates with BKIDZZZ founder/handler Christy Angel Gelena and head coaches Ricardo Daniel Esquivel and Ralchie Gelena, about her Type 1 Diabetes. 'I have come to understand that true success lies not merely in winning. But, in the courage to try, the discipline to improve, and the heart to uplift those around you,' said Tagle. Tagle's father, Brayant, 'was once an accomplished dancer in the Philippines' who makes it a point that their family remains grounded on the 'values of grace, discipline and humility while nurturing their God-given talents.' BKDZZZ is the second dance group Gelena formed in 2024. It is melded towards modern hip-hop and K-pop. The 12 out of over 40 applicants were selected not only through their 'genuine love for dance and definitely not forced by their parents,' but more importantly, their sense of respect and optimism. 'It is essential to create a culture of kindness, mentorship, and generosity where each generation supports the next,' said Gelena. Gelena formed years back, the still existing Fuzion Dance Crew with her son, Ralchie as one of the members, who had developed his abilities with the assistance of 'many people.' Burgos' guardian, Janeth Lalamonan, urges families to indulge their children in worthwhile activities. Doing so hones 'important life skills such as teamwork leadership, confidence and creativity that are just as important as academic achievements.' Apolinario's mother Bennelyn did not mince on the exhaustion and 'challenging financial costs' that come with having children get into both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities: 'At the end of the day, we are not just investing in a skill or a hobby. It is investing in who they are becoming, stronger, braver, and more fulfilled versions of themselves.'

De Guzman's all-around showing supplied help to her seniors EJ Cariño and Chiara Permentilla with the former tallying 12 points and the latter posting 10 markers. "I'm very happy because we won against the best team of the last conference. I know that we have to keep our feet on the ground, but it's a big game so we're happy," Nxled head coach Etorre Guidetti said. De Guzman, who was picked fourth overall during the recent Rookie Draft, admitted she was nervous at first, especially after Guidetti gave her a starting role alongside the veterans. Sabi lang ng mga ate ko na relax lang and just enjoy the game and mas umangat lang 'yung confidence ko with their help," the former Blue Eagle said. "Of course, we're very happy kasi ayun nga, parang lahat ng training namin these past few weeks lumabas siya sa laro namin and of course we just need to follow the system of coach and 'yung points darating na lang," Petro Gazz, the reigning champions of All-Filipino Conference, was without some key players in Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips, who are both suiting up for Alas Pilipinas in the VTV Cup. Watchdog renews push to limit SIM registration in Philippines to fight scams
MANILA: Internet security watchdog Scam Watch Pilipinas has renewed calls to limit the number of registered subscriber identity modules (SIMs) per person as part of a bid to fight online scams. 'In terms of legislation [as part of efforts to combat online scams], the first thing to do is to fix the holes in the SIM Registration Law,' Scam Watch Pilipinas founder Jocel De Guzman said mostly in Filipino during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum on Wednesday (June 25). 'A person can register an unlimited number of SIM cards under his name. That's the first thing. The people being arrested by General Yang, one person can have 600 registered SIMs,' he added. De Guzman was referring to Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang. Antipolo City 2nd District Rep. Romeo Acop said that choosing not to pursue the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte would convey the wrong message—that justice is selective and only applies to the poor and powerless. Signed into law in 2022, Republic Act 11934 to the SIM Registration Act required Filipinos to register their SIM cards in an effort to reduce cyber crimes. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) previously proposed allowing only three or four registered SIMs per person. However, De Guzman proposed a limit of 10 registered SIMs per person to give leeway for businesses and to allow parents to give SIMs to their children, if they are minors. At the same forum, Yang said the PNP ACG arrested 608 individuals from December 2024 to June 20, 2025 for various cyber crimes, including selling pre-registered SIM cards, a violation of RA 11934. Also at the forum, tech firm Gogolook Philippines reported that its content checker application detected around 7,200 scams and nearly 2,900 potential scams out of over 20,800 reports of suspicious content online from March to mid-June this year. Following the enactment of the law, the DICT warned that new scams were developing, such as people selling pre-registered cards and charging a fee to get users registered. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN

Offset reveals his celebrity crush in new interview and fans are surprised
The 33-year-old rapper recently sat down with magician Anna DeGuzman for Complex's new show Interview With a Magician, where guests open up while being wowed by mind tricks. Offset definitely didn't expect what came next. During the segment, DeGuzman asked him to think of a celebrity crush — but to keep it to himself. When she followed up with a few questions, he confirmed she was an artist but admitted he didn't know any of her songs. Still, he added, 'I feel like artistically, she's got it all together.' Then came the moment of surprise. DeGuzman handed him a crumpled piece of paper she had written on earlier. Offset unfolded it — and saw the name 'Sabrina Carpenter.' Visibly stunned, he laughed and said, 'How you get this right? I ain't never said this before.' Even the magician looked shocked. Sabrina Carpenter, 26, wasn't the name anyone expected from the Bad and Boujee rapper, but Offset clearly meant it. 'She's fire,' he added with a grin. The clip has quickly gone viral, especially since Offset's love life has been a talking point lately. He was previously married to Cardi B, who first filed for divorce in 2020, then again in 2024. The couple share three children and have had a long and complicated relationship. Whether the Sabrina crush is just admiration or something more, fans are loving the unexpected honesty — and the internet can't stop talking about it.
