Man Utd star's 'marriage over' as ace 'sick of model wife's spiritual lifestyle'

Matthijs De Ligt married stunning Dutch model AnneKee Molenaar last summer, but the couple have reportedly split after just a year of marriage, with the Manchester United defender said to be 'sick of her spiritual lifestyle' Manchester United's Matthijs De Ligt is reportedly parting ways with wife AnneKee Molenaar, just a year after they got married. The 25 year-old defender married the gorgeous Dutch model last summer in an intimate ceremony. His transfer to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich and the Netherlands' journey to the Euro 2024 semi-finals both occurred last summer too, meaning the couple were planning to celebrate their nuptials this month with a grand party in Italy, surrounded by friends and family. ‌ However, according to Dutch outlet DenD, the party was abruptly cancelled. It's claimed that De Ligt has jetted off to Barbados without AnneKee, 25, after spending last week alone in Ibiza. ‌ A source close to the pair has, it's claimed, stated that their marriage is over. "Initially, there was talk of 'some time for themselves' and holidaying separately, but it is now reportedly definitely over," DenD reported, via Realityfbi. "Matthijs is said to have travelled to Ibiza alone this week and was in Barbados for this." According to Realityfbi, De Ligt is said to have grown increasingly bothered by his wife's spiritual lifestyle. "Apparently, Matthijs can no longer handle Annekee's exaggerated 'spiriwiri-content'", the channel reported last week. The model's Instagram is a treasure trove of bizarre posts, including one with an alien spaceship emoji caption, snaps of her browsing for gemstones and crystals, delving into tarot fortune-telling books, and donning a top emblazoned with a cannabis symbol. She also has her own "Alchemia" page and business. "Alchemia" is the Italian and Polish word for alchemy, the ancient chemical practice focused on transmuting base metals into gold and discovering the elixir of life. ‌ AnneKee's Instagram still showcases photos of De Ligt, yet it's been seven weeks since the United centre-back last featured in her social media updates, following a date night they shared. The couple's romance sparked in Amsterdam as the towering 6ft 2in defender was cutting his teeth with Ajax, but it wasn't until 2023 that he popped the question. Their wedding was timed around the Champions League final, which saw the groom dash that evening to join the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 that very evening. "It's actually funny because the way the planning for our civil wedding went is a reflection of our relationship in general," AnneKee once quipped to Dutch Vogue. "At first, we planned to get married at the end of May, on our anniversary, but then it looked like Matthijs would make it to the Champions League final with Bayern Munich. So, we had to reschedule everything at the last moment."

Amorim's blunt approach will benefit club: De Ligt

agencies Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has praised Ruben Amorim's blunt approach and feels it will benefit the club in the long run. While Amorim has found winning matches difficult since he arrived from Sporting in November, he has delivered some of the most withering statements about United during his short time in charge. After the 3-1 home defeat by Brighton in January he claimed his side were 'probably the worst in Manchester United history'. In the aftermath of the Europa League final defeat by Tottenham, he said he would walk away without talking about compensation should either the club's hierarchy or the fans feel it was the best way forward. On the recent post-season tour of Asia, Amorim accused his players of being 'chokers' after their shock defeat by a South-East Asia select XI. De Ligt, who skippered Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, feels that, because of his nationality and the Dutch reputation for blunt speaking, Amorim's words are positive. 'I'm from Holland so I like it,' he said. 'I can understand the media are in shock because normally this doesn't happen. 'But I think you can also be really happy that finally someone speaks out, says what he thinks and speaks the truth. 'I really appreciate him in our conversations personally. It gives me a feeling I can trust him and he can trust me.' United are reeling after their worst season domestically since the 1973-74 campaign. There was no backdoor entry to the Champions League thanks to the Tottenham reverse, meaning United miss out on European football and the finances that come with it next season for only the second time since English clubs returned to Uefa competition in 1990. After delivering just seven Premier League victories after arriving at the club in November, Amorim will start the new campaign under intense pressure. However, De Ligt feels the work Amorim is doing around the first-team group will pay dividends. 'I've experienced many managers and he's one of the most easy to talk to as a player,' he said. 'He's really into details. Before signing new players, first he's looking at the culture, what needs to change and what can be improved to become a better football club. From next season we will see more of that. 'I think he wants to build a team of players who are together, fighting for each other and making the most out of what they have. 'Maybe before, you had the best players, but you're not a team.'

Three players could miss Man United vs Aston Villa as Ruben Amorim looks for Europa League response

Manchester United will put a book end on a forgettable 2024/25 season this afternoon when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford. While Villa are looking for a win that could secure them Champions League football next season, United are looking to avoid finishing in 17th place in the Premier League table. United just want this season to end and Ruben Amorim will be keen to get a full pre-season with his players as they look to right the wrongs of this season next term. Injury: foot The Frenchman was forced off in United's 2-0 defeat to West Ham United a fortnight ago after going down not long after half-time clutching his left foot. He returned to face Tottenham in the Europa League final but Amorim has now hinted he won't be risked against Villa. "There are some situations, like Leny," Amorim said. "We have to be careful. We had that in the last [home] game before the final, I think it was West Ham, on his foot. "We're going to take care of some situations so as not to compromise next season. The rest, we want to win the game so we are going to put a squad together." Possible return date: Unknown Injury: knee De Ligt did not train alongside the rest of his teammates on Tuesday morning and subsequently missed the clash with Spurs. He has missed the last four games after being forced off against Brentford earlier this month with a knee injury. He trained alone with a fitness coach on Tuesday morning and althought he travelled to Spain to support his teammates, he will not be available to face Villa. Possible return date: Unknown. Injury: anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) Martinez is a long-term absentee after rupturing his ACL in United's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford at the start of February. He soon underwent successful surgery and is well underway with his recovery. United have not put a specific timeframe on how long he will be out for, but he will not feature again this side of the summer. ACL injuries usually take around six months to fully recover from. Possible return date: August.
