ABC News Shuffles GMA3 Lineup After Departures of Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan
ABC News' midafternoon program, GMA3: What You Need to Know, will undergo anchor changes following the move of Eva Pilgrim to Inside Edition and DeMarco Morgan's departure from the network. According to reports, a rotating group of Good Morning America personalities, including Lara Spencer, Will Reeve, Gio Benitez, Sam Champion, Rachel Scott, and James Longman, will now handle hosting duties. The addition of the GMA personalities comes as Pilgrim was officially named the next anchor of the syndicated show Inside Edition on Monday, following Deborah Norville's retirement. She begins her new assignment this fall. "Anchoring Inside Edition is truly a dream job," Pilgrim said. "I have been an avid viewer and fan of the show for many years. I'm pinching myself that I get to work with this amazing team. It's truly an honor to join a show with such a long, rich history." "We feel like we won the jackpot to have Eva join our team as the next anchor of Inside Edition," said Chris Lachman, executive producer of Inside Edition. "She has solid news chops from her years as a reporter and anchor in national and local news, plus a warm relatability that resonates with audiences. We look forward to having a journalist of her caliber take Inside Edition into its next chapter." In separate notes to ABC News staffers obtained by TVNewser, ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic offered praise to the departing anchors, saying Pilgrim was "tireless and enthusiastic, always ready for the next assignment.' Morgan, who Karamehmedovic said decided to leave the news organization, was praised for "his devotion to journalism, and sharing with others is evident in everything he touches.' The duo were named permanent co-anchors of GMA3 in May 2023, following the exits of Amy Robach and TJ Holmes in January that year. The previous hosts had served a two-month suspension for failing to disclose a romantic affair. Pilgrim joined ABC News in 2015 as a correspondent based in New York and has served as co-anchor of GMA Saturday and Sunday broadcasts since 2018. While at ABC News, Pilgrim has covered breaking news stories, including the recent mass shooting in Nashville, the Alex Murdaugh trial, the Charlottesville rally, the 2020 presidential election, the murder of George Floyd, and Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, Irma, Maria, and Michael. Morgan, a longtime local news anchor, joined ABC News in 2022 as a correspondent based in Los Angeles. Since joining ABC, DeMarco has covered a wide range of breaking news stories, including the recent severe weather in the western United States. Before joining ABC News, Morgan was co-anchor of the weekday morning and 11 a.m. KCBS newscasts, where he also reported for all CBS News networks' broadcasts and platforms. Before that, he was a CBS News correspondent and previously anchored at New York stations WCBS and WNBC. Solve the daily Crossword

Major shakeup hits ABC's 'GMA3,' but insider says show 'not being shut down' despite chatter
"GMA3" anchors Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan both exited the ABC News program on Monday as the midday extension of "Good Morning America" undergoes another major facelift, three years after a scandalous extramarital affair put the show firmly in the zeitgeist. The departures of Pilgrim and Morgan prompted questions about the future of the program, which was already hit with layoffs this year. The Status media newsletter wrote that "ABC News is all but throwing in the towel" on the program and TV Insider published a headline bluntly asking, "Is 'GMA3' Going to Be Canceled at ABC?" However, the scandal-plagued program isn't going away anytime soon, according to a well-placed source. "The show is not being shut down," an ABC News source told Fox News Digital. "Good Morning America" executive producer Simone Swink took control of "GMA3" last year. The source pointed to a new studio and look that are more in sync with Swink's flagship "Good Morning America" as evidence that ABC is making an effort to grow the spinoff "GMA3." ABC News personalities Will Reeve, Lara Spencer, Sam Champion, Linsey Davis, James Longman, Rachel Scott, Janai Norman, Gio Benitez and Whit Johnson have all guest hosted the program in recent weeks and a similar rotation is expected to continue. "GMA3" gained national attention in 2022 when then-hosts T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach got caught up in a headline-grabbing cheating scandal. Their relationship, which began while they were both married to other people, resulted in them being benched for two months before they agreed to exit ABC. As the drama unfolded, tabloids essentially covered their every step, keeping scandalous headlines about the Disney-owned network at the forefront. At the time, ABC News insiders said the affair was brutal for the family brand that is so important to Disney, ABC News' parent company. The program has shed viewers since the cheating scandal. "GMA3" averaged 1.6 million total viewers in 2022 before the affair emerged as tabloid fodder and has since averaged 1.4 million for a 13% drop. The decline is worst among the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults aged 25-54, as it has shed 24% of those critical viewers since Robach and Holmes were revealed to be more than friendly co-anchors. ABC touts "GMA3" beating CBS' "The Talk" and "NBC News Daily" when promoting the daytime program. However, "GMA3" loses to a variety of Fox News Channel's morning and daytime offerings, including "FOX & Friends," "America's Newsroom," "The Faulkner Focus," "Outnumbered," "The Story," "America Reports" and "The Will Cain Show." ABC honchos long wanted to expand "Good Morning America" to three hours, but Kelly Ripa's "Live" program rates well at 9 a.m. ET when a third hour would naturally fit. ABC began tinkering with a daytime version of "GMA" in 2018 when Michael Strahan and Sara Haines hosted "GMA Day." The program has since had several makeovers and was known as "Pandemic: What You Need to Know" during the early stages of COVID. It was eventually renamed "GMA3: What you Need to Know" and then shortened to simply "GMA3." ABC News' Almin Karamehmedovic addressed staffers about the exits of Pilgrim and Morgan. "I wanted to share that Eva Pilgrim has decided to embark on her next chapter and will be departing ABC News. She has been a wonderful member of the ABC News team for more than a decade, coming to us from ABC-owned station WPVI in Philadelphia," Karamehmedovic wrote in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital. He went on to tout Pilgrim's successes at the network and thanked her for "many years of friendship and hard work." Pilgrim was named the new host of the syndicated program "Inside Edition." Karamehmedovic also told ABC News staffers that Morgan "has decided to begin a new journey and will be departing ABC News," although it is unclear if he has another gig lined up.

Good Morning America host departs with VERY mysterious note from bosses
GMA3 host DeMarco Morgan is leaving ABC News, Daily Mail can reveal. In a memo sent to staff Monday, ABC News boss Almin Karamehmedovic said Morgan 'has decided to begin a new journey,' without elaborating. Hours earlier, it was revealed that Morgan's GMA3 cohost, Eva Pilgrim, was leaving the show as well, taking over anchor duties for Inside Edition. Morgan had been noticeably absent from GMA3 in recent weeks, with his last appearance on June 13. Karamehmedovic did not specify a destination for Morgan and instead talked up his achievements. 'Earlier in his career, DeMarco worked as a correspondent and anchor at network news and various local stations in Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York before joining ABC News in 2022 based in Los Angeles,' a section of the memo read. 'He took on the role of co-anchor of GMA3 just over two years ago where throughout his reporting, his mission of telling stories of perseverance and giving back stood out.' Karamehmedovic concluded by thanking Morgan 'for his kindness and many contributions' to the network. 'His devotion to journalism and sharing with others is evident in everything he touches.' A source told the Daily Mail that the move is part of an 'evolution of the show' that has been in the works for weeks, rather than a 'shakeup.' The source said hosts from various Good Morning America teams have stepped in to guest host for weeks, after a wave of layoffs in March that left GMA3 'gutted,' Status reported at the time. An insider close to the network told the Daily Mail in April that heavy hitters Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan had all turned down offers to host GMA3, holding out for more money. The trio also feared the program had become 'toxic' following the highly publicized affair of former co-hosts TJ Holmes and Amy Robach. 'After TJ and Amy, it's a toxic hour they want no part of,' the source said. 'They are going to want a lot more money to do any extra work,' the insider added, citing layoffs and other staffers being told to do more with less. A rep at the time said ABC was in the process of 'unifying all day parts under the GMA umbrella and team, and that includes seeing all members of the extended GMA family in the third hour,' including Stephanopoulos, Roberts, and Strahan. In recent months, Morgan and Pilgrim have been joined by co-hosts like Will Reever, Ginger Zee, Rhiannon Ally, and Gio Benitez. Morgan and Pilgrim were officially tapped as replacements for disgraced co-hosts Holmes and Robach in May 2023, after the Daily Mail revealed their scandalous affair that ultimately got them fired. A former CBS affiliate reporter, Morgan had yet to host an episode from the show's new digs in Downtown Manhattan. In March, a source told the Daily Mail GMA's third hour 'isn't going anywhere' and that 'GMA3 is here to stay.' In April, an insider told the New York Post that 'GMA3 won't be there at the end of the summer.'

‘Good Morning America' Personalities To Serve As ‘GMA3' Hosts After DeMarco Morgan And Eva Pilgrim Exits
ABC News is planning to blend Good Morning America more seamlessly with its spinoff GMA3 following the announcements on Monday that co-hosts DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim are departing the show. Pilgrim is exiting for a new gig as host of Inside Edition. Morgan 'has decided to begin a new journey and will be departing ABC News,' ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic wrote in a memo to staffers. They have included figures such as Lara Spencer, Will Reeve, Gio Benitez, Sam Champion, Rachel Scott and James Longman. Status newsletter first reported on the exit of the two GMA3 hosts. Last year, Karamehmedovic announced a cost-cutting restructuring of the news division that saw the exit of Cat McKenzie as executive producer, with Simone Swink, executive producer of Good Morning America, taking over supervision of the show. The strategy has been to capitalize on the viewer familiarity with Good Morning America in the GMA3 hour. GMA3 has gone through a number of host and format changes through the years. It started as GMA Day in 2018, hosted by Michael Strahan and Sara Haines. During Covid, it focused on the pandemic with the title What You Need to Know, and later evolved into GMA: What You Need to Know. Morgan and Pilgrim have hosted the show since 2023, when they, along with Jennifer Ashton, succeeded Amy Robach and TJ Holmes. Ashton departed the network last year.
