$80 million Cowboy cuts to chase, a 'Sharp defense' is on the way in 2025

With so many offseason changes, the Dallas Cowboys defense looks less like a finished product and more like a blacksmith's forge; sparks flying, heat rising, weapons in the making. One person not rattled by the shift? Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, who says this group is in a phase where they're 'sharpening [their] swords.'In a recent, exclusive interview, the newly-minted $80 million man said fans should "expect a sharp defense' as things are already shaping up and key pieces are still on their way back. 'I like the way our defense looks right now,' he told me. 'You got some guys that are on their way back. I'm excited to see what Sam [Williams] does. I'm very, very excited to see what Sam does. We're getting [DeMarvion Overshown] back at some point during the season, so that's gonna be great.' Between bringing in defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and losing longtime tone-setter DeMarcus Lawrence, a new identity is being crafted. And Osa isn't just here for it, he's helping design it. Advertisement Odighizuwa has always been a lead-by-example guy, but when we talked, he acknowledged stepping into more of a vocal leadership role this year. Not by changing who he is, but by speaking up where it matters. 'I'm not gonna change my style,' he said. 'Just be a little more vocal, speak where I see fit. The good thing is we brought in some good guys that are a little bit older. They've got good heads on their shoulders as well and don't necessarily need someone to follow.' Among those 'good guys' are veteran additions like Solomon Thomas and Kaiir Elam, players Odighizuwa says 'pop out on tape,' put in extra work, and lead by example in their own right. And that extra work is critical this time of year. Odighizuwa made it clear that every member of the defense is held to a certain standard that it's up to them to reach by training camp. 'Especially playing for Coach Eberflus,' he emphasized, 'you gotta be in great shape. You gotta be in championship condition.' Advertisement This defense knows there's no easing into the season. Every rep is a weapon being sharpened. Every meeting, every lift, every film session, it's all preparation for battle. And Osa Odighizuwa? He's not just sharpening his sword. He's helping the whole armory gear up. To hear more from him, including thoughts on leadership, conditioning, and also some surprising anime takes, check out the full interview. 'We at War?': Cowboys linebacker Demarvion Overshown leaves fans guessing with vague social media post about Donald Trump

Cowboys' DeMarvion Overshown raises question after Donald Trump announces U.S. airstrike on Iran (Getty Images) Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown left fans puzzled after posting a vague message on social media Sunday night. With no context or follow-up, the unexpected post quickly gained traction, fueling speculation across the NFL community. As Overshown continues his recovery from back-to-back knee injuries, his sudden shift in online tone raised more questions than answers about his mindset off the field. NFL fans puzzled by Demarvion Overshown's cryptic message on social media Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has recently captivated attention for two distinct reasons: an unexpected comment from the public on international affairs and his ongoing struggle with significant knee injuries. In an unexpected turn of events, Overshown weighed in on global events after President Donald Trump confirmed US airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. Taking to social media, the linebacker directly inquired the situation, simply asking, "We at War?" This public query from a professional athlete transiently shifted focus from the sports world to the complexities of international affairs, even as Vice President J.D. Vance clarified that the military action was aimed at Iran's nuclear capabilities rather than a broader conflict with the nation itself. On the field, Overshown has encountered immense physical challenges. His rookie year in 2023 was cut short by a torn ACL, and unfortunately, he went through another season-ending knee injury in Week 14 of the 2024 season. These setbacks are particularly disheartening given that he was enjoying a standout year, having expanded an impressive 90 tackles, five sacks, and a pick-six in just 13 games prior to the latest injury. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brass Krishna Idols For Prosperity & Protection In Life Luxeartisanship Shop Now Undo Despite these formidable obstacles, Overshown has shown astonishing resolve, publicly setting his eyes on a Thanksgiving 2025 return to competitive play. He is reportedly collaborating closely with the Cowboys' rehabilitation specialist, Britt Brown, who has conceived a detailed recovery regimen. Overshown himself has expressed optimism about his progress, noting that his rehabilitation "couldn't be any better. " Overshown's recurring injury issues, however, place the Cowboys in a tough spot regarding his contract, which currently runs until 2026. The team faces a significant decision: should they offer an early extension, betting on his considerable potential, or should they hold off, given that he's suffered two major knee injuries in three years? Their history with similar situations, like those involving Jaylon Smith and Terence Steele, has been a miscellanea, offering no specific blueprint. This would put the Cowboys in a tricky position, potentially forcing them to bid higher than other teams to keep him on the roster. DeMarvion Overshown Previews His New Jersey Number at Cowboys OTAs

The Dallas Cowboys have officially started OTAs, and some players are rocking new jersey numbers heading into the 2025 NFL season. Example? DeMarvion Overshown, who is rehabbing from a serious knee injury, was on the field as an observer during team drills at The Star this week. Advertisement Overshown could be seen sporting his new jersey No. 0 … going back to his college number at the University of Texas. This will be the third jersey number Overshown will wear in a Cowboys uniform after he was No. 35 during his rookie season, and No. 13 during his breakout 2024 season. He will become the first player in franchise history to wear No. 0. Jerry Jones (kinda) claimed the number belonged to the Cowboys mascot Rowdy (who is actually 00) before allowing any player to sport the sweet look. And Overshown impressions? 'Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown made an appearance at practice and worked a bit with the rehab group. He was moving around well and looks to have added some upper body mass,' Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris posted on X. Advertisement Overshown putting on good weight in his upper body while recovering from a lower body injury proves he is committed to continuing to improve himself despite not being 100 percent. Overshown's resiliency is unquestionable, and when he returns to the field, he will join a talented linebacker room featuring Kenneth Murray Jr., Marist Liufau, Jack Sanborn, Buddy Johnson, and rookies Shemar James and Justin Barron. Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has been known as a linebacker whisperer around the league and Cowboys Nation should expect highly productive linebacker play from the Cowboys this season. The Cowboys are hoping that 'Agent 0' makes a speedy recovery and returns better than ever. Former Texas star DeMarvion Overshown teams with Jerry Jones' grandson for Cowboys' No. 0

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown revealed this week how he landed the coveted No. 0 jersey, crediting a key assist from an unexpected source: team owner Jerry Jones' grandson, Paxton Anderson. Overshown, speaking to reporters at the Cowboys' facility, said he reached out to Anderson to help advocate for his jersey switch. 'I called Paxton and told him I needed his help to push it over the edge,' Overshown said, smiling. 'He made sure the right people heard about it.' Advertisement Jones' grandson, Paxton Anderson, joined the Texas Longhorns as a Division I wide receiver in 2020 after a standout high school career at Highland Park and was teammates with DeMarvion Overshown during his time in Austin. Anderson was part of the Longhorns' roster through the 2023 season and graduated in 2024. The NFL began allowing players to wear No. 0 last season, making it a popular choice among players seeking a fresh start or a unique identity. Overshown, who missed his rookie campaign with a knee injury, said the number represents a new chapter as he returns to the field. Many Dallas Cowboys fans believed that owner Jerry Jones and the team's marketing department were holding the No. 0 jersey in reserve to avoid confusion with the double-zero '00' worn by mascot Rowdy in promotional materials and appearances. However, as Patrik Walker of reports, 'that was never actually true." While Jones initially referred to No. 0 as 'Rowdy's number' and declined DeMarvion Overshown's request to wear it last season, the real reason for the delay was not to protect the mascot's branding, but rather due to other internal considerations—such as evaluating which player would be the right fit for the never-before used new number. Rowdy continues to wear '00,' a number not available to NFL players, while Overshown has now made history as the first Cowboys player to don No. 0. Overshown, a third-round pick out of Texas in 2024, is expected to compete for a significant role in the Cowboys' defense this season. He missed his entire rookie year due to a torn ACL. Overhshown previously dawned No. 13, for the Cowboys, coming out making an electric debut in week 1 last season. The former Longhorn tallied up 11 tackles, two QB hits, a tackle for loss and, a sack against the Cleveland Browns.
