Junior golfers shine at Ruimsig Club Champs
Young golfing talent gathered for the much-anticipated Junior Club Champs at Ruimsig Country Club on 5 July, creating a vibrant spectacle on the sunlit greens.
Aspiring golfers showcased their skills, determination, and passion for the game, bringing the club's scenic course to life with energy and excitement.
With its focus on the future of golf, the event provided young players with an opportunity to compete, learn from one another, and develop both their game and sportsmanship. The tournament celebrated youthful spirit, commitment, and the pursuit of excellence.
Spectators were left impressed by the players' technique, strategy, and composure as the competition progressed.
'Good parental support and a well-structured coaching team made things simple for us,' said Debbie Swanepoel, ladies' captain at the club.
More than just a contest, the Junior Club Champs served as a platform to highlight the next generation of golfing talent, and Ruimsig Country Club is proud to be at the forefront of developing young athletes.
In the A Division, Jordan Olwagen took top honours, with Logan Strydom in second place and Njabulo Ncube in third. Sebastian Feben won the B Division.
'Ruimsig has a strong junior section; we want to nurture them into the best golf players,' said Debbie.
She explained that young golfers at the club have opportunities to compete in high-level tournaments.
'Youngsters get a chance to play at major tournaments hosted by the Central Gauteng Golf Union and will later compete nationally against players from top academies,' she said.
Debbie also highlighted how the club supports and mentors its juniors.
'Our club offers programmes run by the golf committee where young players are trained to become professional golfers while still at an amateur level,' she explained.
