Gypsy Rose completes parole for her mum's murder
Gypsy Rose Blanchard has opened up about moving forward in her life after completing her parole on Tuesday. The 33-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday to 'break her silence' on the role she played in her mother Dee Dee's 2015 death. Blanchard was released from prison in December 2023 after serving eight years of her 10-year sentence for second-degree murder. Her parole ended on Tuesday. 'I've taken accountability and now, I take back my life,' Blanchard started her post. 'When I accepted my sentence, I accepted the weight of my choices 'I served my time – that was my accountability, and I've carried it for years 'This is freedom and I'm moving forward with clarity, peace, and self-forgiveness. 'The Justice system has decided, the case is closed. 'I am deeply remorseful for the pain and heartbreak my actions have caused Dee Dee's family - I recognise that nothing I can say can undo the trauma or bring her back. 'From the depths of my heart, I will continue to express my sincerest apologies to them, now and always Dee Dee Blanchard's murder made world headlines as it exposed the realities of Munchausen by proxy Credit: Supplied 'This is justice for Dee Dee, as well as myself, who the system failed all my life. 'Justice was served and so was my time.' Blanchard also took the post as an opportunity to take aim at her 'deeply disturbed' ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, who was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for his role in Dee Dee's murder. 'He knew the difference between right and wrong,' she said of Godejohn. 'Regardless of my role of unintentional manipulation, Nicholas made the decision to move forward with that night. 'That was a choice, and he is not exempt from the consequences of that choice. 'I will not carry his actions on my shoulders any longer – I've taken responsibility for mine.' Godejohn (L) was charged with first-degree murder and Blanchard (R) was charged with second-degree murder for their roles in Dee Dee's death. Credit: Supplied In June 2015, Godejohn stabbed Dee Dee to death while Blanchard, who he was then dating, hid in a bathroom. Godejohn's attorneys had previously argued that he was manipulated by Blanchard to kill her mom and should have his charges reduced to second-degree murder. Blanchard, who was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, was put in a wheelchair despite being able to walk, forced to take medications she didn't need and had her head shaved to convince loved ones and the community that she was suffering from muscular dystrophy, leukemia and other ailments. The Life After Lock Up star ended her post by thanking everyone who had supported her over the years 'I'm about to show you what living my best life really looks like, and all you can do now… is watch me.'

Thousands gather in Eugene for No Kings Day rally and march
This story will be updated. Thousands of people gathered outside of the Wayne Lyman Morse United States Courthouse in downtown Eugene on June 14 as part of a nationwide "No Kings: Nationwide Day of Defiance." Just before noon Saturday, Eugene police sent an advisory that crowds and traffic congestion were making travel difficult near Eighth Avenue and Mill Street. The protest was a counter to President Donald Trump's 79th birthday and a related military parade celebrating the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary in Washington, D.C. "I'd like to welcome you to the big, beautiful resistance," organizers said at the rally. Indivisible Eugene Springfield, a progressive activist group, partnered with 50501 and other local organizations to plan the protest. On its website, the group said the Trump administration "defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services." Protest attendees Johnny and Dee Dee, who declined to provide their last names, said they felt empowered by joining the protest. "Fascism has taken over," Johnny, a resident of Cottage Grove, said. "It gets worse by the week." "I think it's a good idea to show up and show how many of us are opposed to what's going on, and to Trump and what his Republican cronies are doing," said Dee Dee. "It's good to see all of these people who feel like we do. It makes us feel a little less helpless," Johnny said. Johnny, a Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War, expressed dismay at Trump's treatment of the military and U.S. servicemembers. "Captain Bonespurs, one day he says he loves the veterans and the next he says what fools we are," Johnny said. "This guy thinks he's a king and he admires strong men, dictators, he wants to be friends with them, he wants to be friends with our worst enemies." Melinda McLaughlin, a spokesperson for Eugene Police Department, said the department tracks protests, marches and other gatherings. "We monitor the marches and rallies to protect the marchers and also the general public, diverting traffic as necessary to provide safe access to the marchers and vehicular traffic within the city of Eugene," McLaughlin said. She said the organizers of "No Kings" march contacted EPD to plan a peaceful, safe and legal event while exercising free speech. "In general, Eugene police's response during large-scale public events is dictated by the behaviors of those involved and not on the content of their messages. The goal is always to facilitate people's constitutional rights to free speech, regardless of content, and support their ability to peacefully protest and demonstrate," McLaughlin said prior to the protest and march. The military celebration coincided with Flag Day, which celebrates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the U.S. flag. The Army did not label the taxpayer-funded parade a birthday celebration for Trump, however, plans to add a parade to the years-long celebration began in earnest last month. Trump has over the years expressed his desire for a large parade and called the cost of the massive $30-million-plus affair on June 14 "peanuts." All the Restaurant Closings in Austin, May 2025
In a fast-paced place like Austin, restaurants come and go all the time. Know of an Austin area restaurant closure that's not on this list? Drop us a line at austin@ . Biderman's Deli This Jewish deli, which opened in Northwest Hills in 2017 and in other locations that opened and closed through the years, has closed its doors. The deli posted on Facebook in April, noting a temporary closure due to the death of its owner. A Redditor posted a photo of a handwritten sign later in the month that read, 'It's been an honor serving you! We will be back soon! Thankfully and gratefully, the Biderman's staff.' As of now, Biederman's has been wiped from Google Maps, and its website is gone. No posts have been made on its social media accounts to explain the closure. Dee Dee It's so long, but not goodbye for this food truck. Dee Dee announced on Instagram that it will close down its truck at Radio Coffee and Beer and open a brick-and-mortar at the forthcoming Leona Botanical Café and Bar later this summer. The truck was in business for nine years before making the location jump. Golden Eye Chocolates The Austin chocolate shop notified customers via a newsletter email that it is closing its North Austin location on May 31 and will stop offering curbside pickup at its South Austin location on June 20. It cited climate change as the culprit. 'Severe floods and droughts in key countries that produce over 50 percent of the world's chocolate have led to a significant loss of cacao crops and substantial price increases. This, coupled with unforeseen delays in our kitchen construction, has proven to be too costly for us to continue the business as it exists,' the newsletter said. The brand may make a return, however. The email said it is looking for a new kitchen and working through restructuring its business model. Stinson's This north Austin bistro closed its doors in May and will reopen as a food truck, it announced on Instagram. Stinson's will reopen across the street from its Burnett Avenue location, offering the same coffee, breakfast tacos, and other dishes that it's always served. The truck should open before the end of May, pending city permits. The Brass Tap It's another closure for the Brass Tap, a beer bar. This was its last location, near the Triangle in North Austin. No specific reason was given in a notice posted on its front door or in social media posts captured by Community Impact. For those who miss it, the Round Rock location is still up and running. Dry Dock During the first week in May, this 43-year-old seafood spot shaped like a boat out in San Antonio served its last meal. After coming under new ownership, it will become a crab boil-centric restaurant called Crab City, MySA reports. Much of the current staff will reportedly remain to work at the new restaurant.
