Deion Sanders returns to Colorado after health issue: ‘Back and feeling great'

Colorado coach Deion Sanders has returned to campus in Boulder, according to a video posted by Well Off Media, a YouTube channel run by his oldest son, Deion Sanders Jr. Sanders Jr. posted a video on Friday showing his father walking through the facility and into the coaches' meeting room with a caption 'Staff Meeting.' Advertisement 'You can come in if you want,' Sanders says in the video. 'Back and feeling great!' he posted on X earlier in the day. Since leaving Boulder a few days after Colorado's April 19 spring game, Sanders has spent most of the last three months on his ranch in Canton, Texas, a city outside Dallas. Sanders has been dealing with an unspecified health issue and is expected to address the media alongside his medical team in Boulder on Monday, according to an announcement Colorado made Friday. This summer, Sanders referenced on a podcast that he'd lost 14 pounds during the health episode. He declined to elaborate on his health when asked by The Athletic at Big 12 Media Days earlier this month. 'I'm not here to talk about my health,' Sanders said. 'I'm here to talk about my team.' Sanders has said multiple times during his absence that he would inform the public of his health situation at some point in the future. Colorado athletic director Rick George told The Athletic on July 9 that Sanders would be returning to campus 'in a week or two, probably.' George said he had no problem with Sanders' physical absence and that the two have been in constant contact since he's been away. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark checked in on Sanders' health daily, Sanders said. Sanders wasn't present on campus during a five-week recruiting period this offseason, wasn't present for a series of camps and canceled a scheduled speaking engagement in Florida in June. After his appearance at media days, Sanders said in a Well Off Media video that he was leaving on a private plane to shoot a commercial. Earlier this month, he also filmed a commercial for Aflac at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Before arriving in Boulder, Sanders first stopped in Tampa, Fla. to watch his son and former CU player Shilo Sanders practice. The 25-year-old defensive back signed with the Buccaneers in April as an undrafted free agent. Advertisement Throughout his absence, Sanders was in daily contact with his staff, a person briefed on the situation told The Athletic. Sanders has a history of blood clot issues, and in 2021, had two toes amputated. In 2023, he had surgery to relieve the clots that kept him from attending Pac-12 media days and spent most of that offseason in pain and limping before reaching his stated goal of running out on the field with his team to begin the season. It's unclear if his current health issue is related to his past issues with clots. Sanders Jr. posted a video earlier this week announcing his and his father's plans to leave the ranch in Canton and return to Boulder. 'It's not even about being here. It's the battle that was fought. It's the battle that was fought and won here,' Sanders Jr. tells the camera in the video. 'That's the main important thing. Boy didn't leave the house for two months.'

I got some announcements coming soon but one thing I do kno from is TALENT & DEDICATION always wins see u sooooon.' Fresh Intel Reveals Deion Sanders Missed 'Official Duties' as Health Improves, Per Report

Fresh Intel Reveals Deion Sanders Missed 'Official Duties' as Health Improves, Per Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Deion Sanders Is Off the Sidelines for Now and Buffaloes Fans Are Watching Closely It's the heart of summer, and Colorado football's biggest star isn't on the recruiting trail, in the film room, or at the team's youth camps. Instead, Coach Prime is quietly recovering away from Boulder, leaving fans wondering just how close he is to returning. Advertisement In a video posted Saturday by his son, Deion Sanders Jr., the legendary coach was seen fishing in Texas with Colorado standout Travis Hunter. While encouraging Hunter to reel in a fish, Sanders appeared upbeat but far from full throttle. 'It's a beautiful thing,' Sanders Jr. said. 'Coach Prime back active, moving around. God is great. Not back active moving around, but it's progress.' Yet even that bit of movement comes amid mounting concern. According to USA Today's Brent Schrotenboer, Sanders has been away from his coaching duties since April and missed Colorado's annual youth and high school football camps in June, events clearly outlined in his employment contract. His absence has fueled speculation and stirred unease among fans and insiders alike. Contractual Duties Unfulfilled Coach Prime's contract requires him to run summer football camps, key events that develop local talent and keep the program front-of-mind for young athletes across Colorado. His no-show in June didn't go unnoticed. Advertisement Brent Schrotenboer reported that Sanders 'did not attend Colorado's annual youth and high school camps,' even though organizing and appearing at them is officially listed in his job description. Health Still a Major Hurdle Sanders, 57, has long battled serious health issues, most notably blood clots in his legs. The complications led to the amputation of two toes and over 10 surgeries. He previously missed the 2023 Pac-12 media event due to these challenges. This time, Sanders admitted on a podcast with Asante Samuel that his current condition is 'at a whole nother level.' He revealed he's lost about 14 pounds during this recent health scare. Advertisement Despite an optimistic tone in a June 11 post, 'everything is OKAY', his timeline for a full return remains a mystery. Coach Prime, Deion SandersCU Buffs A Team Waiting for Its Leader While this is considered a quieter time in the college football calendar, Sanders is expected to headline Colorado's presence at the Big 12 media days on July 9 in Frisco, Texas. Whether he appears is still uncertain. His absence has created a leadership vacuum, albeit temporary in a program that has seen seismic growth under his watch. He's helped land a top-20 transfer class and significantly boosted the salaries of his assistants. Still, as the spotlight dims slightly in his absence, the Buffaloes faithful are left wondering: Can the magic of Coach Prime continue if he's only half present? Advertisement Fans should brace for a cautious timeline. Colorado athletic director Rick George has supported Sanders through his health battles, and with good reason. Without Prime, Colorado's national relevance would drop off a cliff. But support comes with accountability. As fall camp looms, all eyes will be on whether Sanders shows up, not just in body, but in full command. Because when Coach Prime speaks, the nation listens. And right now, Boulder is waiting. Deion Sanders downplays health concerns after absence from Colorado duties

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders posted on social media Wednesday that 'everything is OKAY' after news emerged he has been unable to attend the school's football camps so far this spring. The 57-year-old's health has come into question because of his extended absence. Sanders wrote on X that he was 'truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!' Sanders later added that he's 'excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program.' He said that once he arrives back in Boulder he will provide updates. He concluded his post with, 'Until then, I'M COMING BABY, #CoachPrime.' The school had no comment on Wednesday and did not give a reason for his absence. ESPN, citing a source it did not name, reported on Tuesday that Sanders has been ill and out of the office recently. His son Deion Sanders Jr posted a livestream on YouTube over the weekend in which he said his father remains at home in Texas and 'feeling well,' according to USA Today. The Hall of Famer has dealt with foot issues since he had two toes amputated in 2021 because of blood clot issues. He missed media day in 2023, his inaugural year at Colorado, after a procedure to remove a blood clot from his right leg and another to straighten some of his toes. As part of the contract extension he signed in March, Sanders is required to operate a minimum of three on-campus football camps. The Buffaloes are set to begin their third year under Sanders on 29 August against Georgia Tech at Folsom Field.

Deion Sanders says he's OK and excited to get back to Colorado after report of health issue

University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders on Wednesday offered reassurance that he is OK after missing the school's annual football on-campus camps. According to USA Today, Sanders has been dealing with an 'unspecified health issue.' As well as missing the camps, he was also scheduled to speak at a symposium hosted by The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research on June 8, but withdrew because of an 'unavoidable last-minute scheduling change,' organizers of the event explained. Writing on X on Wednesday, the 57-year-old Sanders said: 'I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! 'I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God so please believe God got me! I'm excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder you will be updated on everything.' USA Today also reported that Sanders' son, Deion Sanders Jr., appeared on a YouTube livestream over the weekend from the family home in Texas, saying that his father is 'feeling well' and will 'tell y'all soon enough what he (is) going through.' The University of Colorado declined to comment on reports about Sanders' health when contacted by CNN. Sanders, who is about to enter his third year with the school, underwent surgery for blood clots in both of his legs in 2023 but avoided having a foot amputation. Two years before that, he had two toes amputated due to blood clots while he was head coach at Jackson State University.
