Elevated corridor above Inner Ring Road on the cards to decongest Delhi: Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh
To tackle traffic congestion in the national capital, the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) is planning to construct an elevated corridor or a third ring road above the existing Inner Ring Road. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the key aim is to decongest traffic jams and provide a smooth vehicular movement along one of Delhi's busiest arterial roads. A meeting in this regard was held last week, where the minister directed the department to appoint a consultant to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). 'Looking at the increasing traffic load on the Ring Road, we plan to construct this elevated corridor over the existing road. Some parcels of land will be acquired, and ramps and loops will be built to connect the elevated road with arterial routes,' said the minister. Officials said that the inner ring road is 55 km long, starting from Shalimar Bagh in North Delhi to Azadpur. This is a vital commuter link that witnesses severe congestion during peak hours. The proposed elevated corridor is expected to span around 80 kilometres when ramps, loops, and additional connecting roads are included, offering improved connectivity and easing traffic flow at several known bottlenecks, said officials. PWD officials have also been instructed to expedite the consultant selection process to evaluate the technical and feasibility aspects of the project. 'Once the DPR is completed, the department will move toward execution, subject to approvals and funding,' said the minister. The initiative forms part of the Delhi government's broader plan to address persistent traffic snarls at multiple choke points across the capital, many of which are located along the Ring Road corridor. 'An expert committee formed earlier to examine traffic issues across the city is scheduled to meet this week to review the corridor proposal and suggest further steps. This project is a step toward a long-term solution for Delhi's traffic woes,' officials said.

The renovation is part of the standard provision for a chief minister's official residence, with the PWD overseeing execution as per government norms. Arvind Kejriwal, the former chief minister, was allotted 6, Flagstaff Road—a residence that later came under fire for its reported ₹33 crore renovation, earning it the moniker 'Sheesh Mahal." Gupta had earlier announced that she would not occupy that bungalow, and instead plans to convert it into a museum—calling it a 'symbol of corruption" under the previous Aam Aadmi Party government. The Delhi BJP has refused to comment on the tender. A statement from the city government is also awaited.

Delhi govt's 45-point action plan to rejuvenate Yamuna, CM Rekha Gupta to monitor progress monthly
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a 45-point action plan to rejuvenate the Yamuna River. The directions aim to accelerate ongoing projects and ensure strict monitoring. According to a statement issued by the Delhi government on Friday, CM Gupta will personally inspect the progress on Yamuna cleaning every month, in what has been described as a mission of 'environmental and ethical responsibility'. Chairing a high-level review meeting with officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Friday, CM Gupta reviewed budgetary allocations, project timelines, and progress across three key areas: water supply, sewerage network improvements, and the Yamuna revival plan. Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh also attended the meeting. The 45-point action plan covers drain treatment, treated water inflow into the river, solid and sewage waste management, septage and dairy waste disposal, riverfront development, stormwater planning, enforcement mechanisms, and public engagement. 'The rejuvenation of the Yamuna is not just a policy commitment—it is a moral duty. A clean and developed Delhi is possible only when every citizen has access to clean drinking water and efficient sewage systems,' the CM was quoted as saying, as per the government statement. According to the statement, 303 drainage projects worth Rs 8,000 crore are currently underway. These include de-silting works, permanent waterlogging solutions, pump house upgrades, and expansion of the stormwater network. The departments have been instructed to ensure timely and quality completion. Work is also ongoing to upgrade eight Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), including those at Okhla, Keshopur, Yamuna Vihar, Nilothi, and Pappankalan. Additionally, the government plans to establish 40 new Decentralised STPs (DSTPs), 13 of which are under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. The statement added that all unauthorised colonies must be connected with water and sewer lines by December 2027. Officials have been told to phase out old pipelines and prevent stormwater from mixing with sewage. The chief minister has urged the public to treat the Yamuna as a 'sacred heritage', She said the campaign would involve large-scale public awareness drives alongside technical and administrative measures.

‘No polluter will be spared': Delhi PWD minister announces crackdown on industrial discharge into Yamuna river
Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Friday ordered a city-wide crackdown on the discharge of illegal sewage and industrial waste into the Yamuna, kickstarting an enforcement campaign to tackle water pollution in the capital. Calling untreated sewage discharge a 'crisis that can no longer be ignored,' Singh directed all departments concerned to begin immediate inspections across Delhi's industrial and commercial establishments. 'No polluter will be spared. We will act — and act fast,' the minister was quoted as saying, in the statement issued by the PWD on Friday. According to the statement, the drive will target all establishments legally mandated to install and operate Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) or Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs). 'Comprehensive and time-bound inspections' are to be conducted to ensure these plants are both installed and functioning properly. The statement also noted that any non-compliance would invite strict legal action under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. Emphasising a 'zero-tolerance' policy, the PWD said penalties would be enforced 'with no exemptions or delays'. The Water Act allows for fines and imprisonment for discharging pollutants into water bodies without treatment or consent. A real-time e-dashboard will be developed to track inspection status, record violations, and monitor corrective measures. Departments have been directed to submit bi-monthly compliance reports to the minister's office to ensure regular monitoring and accountability. The minister also stressed that 'departmental coordination is key' and called for 'seamless coordination among all enforcement and technical departments' to eliminate delays and ensure timely action. The crackdown comes amid longstanding concerns over the pollution levels in the Yamuna. Despite previous clean-up plans and multiple deadlines, large volumes of untreated waste continue to flow into the river, especially from unregulated industrial clusters and unauthorised colonies, as per government records. 'This is not a symbolic act. It is a matter of survival and legacy. Delhi must rise to this challenge,' Singh said. The enforcement drive begins with immediate effect, said the PWD. High-risk zones and habitual defaulters will be prioritised. Citizens have also been encouraged to report instances of illegal discharge through local helplines or municipal channels.

PWD plans ₹6-cr beautification of Rajghat area, floats tender
The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has floated a tender worth over ₹6 crore for beautification work along key stretches near the Rajghat memorial. The project will cover the central verge of Satyagrah Marg and the left flank and central verge of Ring Road from Rajghat crossing to Gulab Vatika, officials said. According to PWD officials, to be completed in four months once awarded, includes installation of sculptures, ornamental railings, fountains, water bodies and integrated lighting systems. A senior PWD official said, 'This stretch sees a high volume of local and tourist traffic, being adjacent to Rajghat. The beautification work is aimed at creating a more serene and visually striking experience, especially through the integration of modern water features.' Contractors will also be tasked with monthly photographic documentation of progress and handling waste management, officials said. The department has mandated that only agencies with previous experience in high-value civil fountain works will be eligible to bid, they added. The project is part of the PWD's broader effort to uplift public spaces across Delhi over the next year. The stretch between Shantivan and Rajghat already falls under a Delhi government pilot streetscaping project launched by the previous administration, which revamped 16 roads with footpaths, landscaping, and street furniture, according to officials. While Rajghat, which houses 17 memorials including that of Mahatma Gandhi, remains a major attraction, officials admit the surrounding infrastructure and horticulture are overdue for an upgrade. Earlier efforts included patchwork repairs and replantation ahead of the G20 summit two years ago, they added.
