Stephen Curry Retirement Update: Father Dell Gives Reassuring News On Warriors Star's Future

Stephen Curry Retirement Update: Father Dell Gives Reassuring News On Warriors Star's Future originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Stephen Curry just finished his 16th season in the NBA, and while you'd imagine the end of his career isn't too far away, his father, Dell, declares that is not the case. During an interview with RG, Dell said his son is not even close to retiring. Advertisement 'He still loves the game,' Dell said. 'He's a competitive guy. He wants to win another title, so we're not even close to that window yet. But when the time comes, I think he'll make the right decision.' Curry averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game for the Golden State Warriors in 2024-25. The 11-time All-Star's importance to the team was on full display in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Curry suffered a hamstring injury in Game 1 against the Timberwolves, and he would play no further part in the series. The Warriors did go on to take a 1-0 lead despite his exit, but then lost four in a row to be eliminated in five games. The series was just more proof that the 37-year-old Curry is still one of the most impactful players in the NBA today. Dell reckons his son can play into his deep 40s because of his style of play. Advertisement Curry isn't reliant on his athleticism like so many other stars and can continue to provide value with his exceptional shooting. As for what would make him walk away from the game, Dell spoke about that as well. 'I think it'll come down to—not necessarily his skill, or what he can do in a game in the season,' Dell stated. 'I think it's a matter of, can he go through the rigors of preparing himself to play in an NBA season? I know when I retired, that was a big factor. I just didn't feel like I had the energy, the effort to work and train throughout the summer. So I wouldn't short myself, my teammates, or the fans and give my all during that season. I think that's what it'll come down to.' Dell played 16 seasons in the NBA after the Utah Jazz selected him with the 15th pick in the 1986 Draft. He didn't have the motivation to work his socks off for another offseason and called it quits in 2002. His son doesn't have that problem and wants to keep going. Curry made it clear he's greedy for a fifth championship and admitted it's the only thing he's really playing for. It has been three years since he won his last title when the Warriors beat the Boston Celtics in six games in the 2022 NBA Finals. Advertisement In the years leading up to that triumph, many had thought that Curry's days of winning titles were over. The Warriors had failed to make the playoffs in 2020 and 2021 after losing in the NBA Finals to the Toronto Raptors in 2019. They then managed to shock the basketball world by going on another incredible run. Time will tell if the Warriors can pull off something like that again. They have won just two playoff series in three years after winning the title, but who knows what might have been this time around, if not for Curry's injury. It will be interesting to see how far the Warriors can go next season if the injury bug stays away. Exclusive: Stephen Curry's dad Dell reveals what Warriors need to get over hump

The post Exclusive: Stephen Curry's dad Dell reveals what Warriors need to get over hump appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Golden State Warriors could be a team on the verge of emerging as an elite one next season. Advertisement The Warriors showed off their potential following their midseason trade of Jimmy Butler. Golden State went 23-7 with Butler in the lineup, including 16-2 when both Butler and Steph Curry were in. The Warriors managed to pull off a first-round series win over the No. 2-seeded Houston Rockets with both stars in the lineup, but fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the semifinals after Curry missed most of the series after suffering an injury in Game 1. While it remains to be seen what finishing touches the Warriors put on their roster — they're currently fielding trade offers for Jonathan Kuminga — Dell Curry (Steph's dad) believes an 'athletic big' could be what puts Golden State over the top. 'A lot of teams wish they had an athletic big,' says Curry in a one-on-one interview. 'Go find one that a team's willing to give up on, to help your opponent out. That's the game now. You got to be able to get up and down the floor as a big, shoot the ball, athletic ability, and that position is really important. The Warriors are like a lot of teams in the league, looking for that athletic big.' Curry mentions how Kuminga could be that piece, but they need to make a decision on what they're going to do with him. The Warriors extended a $7.9 million qualifying offer to Kuminga, who is a restricted free agent. The 2022 first-round draft pick has shown promise at times, leading the team with 20.8 points per game on 54.3% from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc in the series against the T-Wolves. Advertisement However, he's also appeared out of place a lot of the time in Golden State, losing his starting place in the lineup early on in the season with no contract extension in place. As mentioned before, the Warriors have been shopping Kuminga in a potential sign-and-trade deal. Curry stresses that the younger players on the Warriors need to start stepping up as his son, Steph, Butler and Draymond Green continue to age. All three players are at least 35 years old. 'The development of their young players will really help them going forward,' says Curry. 'They got to figure out the Jonathan Kuminga situation, he has value around the league, whether they want to re-sign him, bring him back or use him to bring more value. Maybe he's the guy they use to get that athletic big. There's so many scenarios of how teams and how the Warriors can get better.' The former Charlotte Hornets star mentions how the 'window is closing' for the Warriors, with the Western Conference being so stacked. The Oklahoma City Thunder just won the NBA Finals as the second-youngest team in the league and there are still teams like the Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets and the Kevin Durant-led Houston Rockets lurking. Advertisement 'That window is closing obviously with Steph, Draymond and Jimmy getting up there in age,' says Curry. 'They've got to make some decisions now to make sure that they have the team that it takes to make a run at it. If they're healthy — if Steph, Jimmy and Draymond are healthy — and they get the right mix of guys, more shooting around, they're right back in the conversation when you talk about the Western Conference teams to beat.' Curry says that with Butler going through a full training camp with the Warriors, they'll be right in the 'mix' among the Western Conference's elite next season. 'With Jimmy being able to go through a training camp and rigors of a full season, they can get their stride and everybody's healthy at the end of the year again, I think they can be right there in the mix,' says Curry. Grant Hill On His Goal At The American Century Championship: ‘I May Be Coming In With No Expectations'

Basketball Hall of Famer Grant Hill will be playing in the American Century Championship for the ... More first time this weekend. (Photo byfor American Century Investments) Grant Hill is a rookie at this year's American Century Championship. The biggest celebrity and athlete golf tournament in the country -- the event features over 80 personalities -- is taking place for its 36th edition in Lake Tahoe this weekend. Hill is one of many NBA greats, including former winner Steph Curry and his dad Dell Curry, along with Charles Barkley and Ray Allen who will be participating in the event. Although Hill has been playing golf for the past five or six years, he's new to this event. The first time he watched the American Century Championship was in 1996, shortly after his NBA career began. Hill -- a basketball Hall of Famer and a two-time champion at Duke -- says he'll be a "little nervous" playing for the first time at the tournament. "I remember the first time I watched it on TV in '96 my fellow rookie, co Rookie of the Year, Jason Kidd, was playing in it, and that was the first time that I became aware of it," says Hill in a one-on-one interview. "As I've gotten into golf in the last five-to-six years, it's always been a dream of mine to be here and play here, and was really thrilled when I got the email invitation to come. "I'm excited," Hill continues. "I'm a little nervous. It's going to be 80,000 spectators that are expected to be there this weekend. It should be a lot of fun, it'll be more fun if I play well." The 52-year-old seven-time All-Star says he's a "pretty good golfer," but he acknowledges he doesn't have expectations of winning the tournament his first time around. 'I'm a pretty good golfer, I'm not here with the idea of winning it,' says Hill. 'That's not my goal. I'm about a 13 handicap and just getting better and better. I'm playing probably my best golf the last two months or so. I'm new to this, but I think as a result, I'm not coming in with unrealistic expectations. I may be coming in with no expectations.' Hill says the objective is to "play as well" as he can play and wants to familiarize himself with the course at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. His betting odds of winning are 250-to-1 according to Caesars Sportsbook, which is tied for the 36th-best odds. That's not bad considering Hill has better odds than fellow NBA players Seth Curry, Vince Carter, Kyle Lowry and Barkley. "Play as well as you can play," says Hill of his objective entering the tournament. "Obviously, the Stableford format, you want to get points and you want pars and birdies, but bogeys is getting points too. How can I get a point every hole? Being very strategic, making good decisions, I've been here, I've played the last three days, so I've gotten myself familiar with the surroundings of the course. "Just push myself," Hill continues. "I'm competing against myself, which sounds so cliche, but it's the truth in golf. Just keep fighting, keep pushing, keep believing and keep swinging." Curry -- who won in 2023 but missed last year's tournament due to his participation with Team USA -- is the co-favorite to win the tournament, along with several others, including Los Angeles Lakers swingman Austin Reaves. Hill says Curry, Reaves, Allen and former Duke Blue Devils guard Gerald Henderson are the best basketball golfers he's ever seen and considers them to be on his Mount Rushmore. "I've played with Steph, obviously, I've seen Steph play and win it a few years ago, the American Century Championship,'" says Hill. "Last summer, we were together with the US international team for six-and-a-half weeks on our way to Paris, and we played a couple of times in Abu Dhabi, and got a chance to watch him play. Austin Reeves, who was with the World Cup team in 23 he and I played a ton. We probably played about seven-to-eight rounds during that run. He's really good too. Those two are really, really talented. "And then Gerald Henderson," Hill continues. "I haven't seen him play, but I know he's a new guy, but he played competitively, I think he was recruited for golf in high school, and chose basketball, He's pretty solid as well. I know Ray Allen's a good golfer. I put those four at the top. Those are my four on the Mount Rushmore of basketball guys who can go." The total purse is $750,000 for the tournament and the first-place winner will get $150,000, the most prestigious prize in celebrity golf. The first round will start today and is broadcast on NBC. "It's going to be fun," says Hill. "Tell everybody to check it out. It's a fantastic event. You got some great stars and celebrities and current and former athletic greats. It's just a fun, fun weekend, and there's some pretty good golf as well. It should be a lot of fun to watch the American Century Championship."

Steph Curry's dad Dell set for eye-catching career move... and it could have major retirement repercussions for NBA icon

Dell Curry has landed a big new job, and it could have a major effect on his son Steph once he decides to retire from the NBA. The former Charlotte Hornets star, 61, was announced on Thursday as one of the new members of Amazon Prime Video's NBA broadcast team for next season. Dell, who had been serving as a color commentator for the Hornets, will be a game analyst for Amazon as they carry NBA rights for the first time. And while his son Steph, 37, looks set to play at least one more year with the Warriors, it's believed that Amazon's recruitment of his father has put the company in 'pole position' to land him as well when he's done playing. That claim comes from Front Office Sports, who opined that hiring the elder Curry could be a 'preliminary chess move' to ultimately land Steph. For now the company already has a tacked roster of talent, with Ian Eagle, Kevin Harlan, Michael Grady and Eric Collins set to serve as play-by-play announcers. We're excited to announce some new members to the #NBAonPrime family! 👏 — NBA on Prime (@NBAonPrime) July 10, 2025 Stan Van Gundy and Brent Barry will serve as analysts alongside Curry, while Cassidy Hubbarth, Allie Clifton and Kristina Pink will be sideline reporters. Amazon will broadcast 66 regular season games each year as part of the NBA's new media rights deal with them, ESPN and NBCUniversal. It's not actually, though, clear if the younger Curry would want to follow his father into broadcasting. Asked by YouTuber Jon Youshaei if he'd ever do a podcast like his longtime teammate Draymond Green, he demurred. 'You won't see me do it though... I got a lot of other things I wanna do other than be behind the mic every day,' he said. 'Cause if you gonna do something you gotta be all in, and it is the time commitment, it's a big lift. It's not something I'm passionate about.' Curry was still impressive last year in his 16th NBA season (all in Golden State), as he scored 24.5 points a night, dished out six assists per contest and shot just under 40 percent from three-point range. He, Green and Jimmy Butler will look to lead the team back into the playoffs after they finished the season 20-7 after the All-Star Break.
