NBA championship winner, Boomers star Matthew Dellavedova lists Melbourne home

Loading content... After inking a deal with a new team, basketball star Matthew Dellavedova and wife Anna have listed their Melbourne home, little more than a year after buying it. They're hoping to sell the Sandringham property for a price in the range of $4.5 million to $4.7 million. The home's on the market because the now former Melbourne United guard signed a three-year deal with the Sydney Kings earlier this year. Cotality records show the home was built in 1890, and was previously sold in April 2024 for $4.825 million. The marketing describes the property as "a rare architectural treasure standing as one of Sandringham's most revered heritage residences". "Showcasing historical distinction and contemporary prestige, intricate period craftsmanship defines this landmark estate of remarkable scale," the marketing states. Sitting on 897 square metres, the house features an outdoor space with a terrace, pool, spa and barbecue kitchen. An open-plan kitchen also opens to the landscaped garden. The home also contains six double bedrooms, including a deluxe ground floor bedroom suite; as well as high ceilings, fireplaces, a cellar and a workshop. Earlier this year, Dellavedova made headlines when he declined the NBL Grand FinalMVP honour after Melbourne United lost the championship series 3-2 to the Illawarra Hawks. Dellavedova declined to accept the award, saying that it belonged to Hawks player Will 'Davo' Hickey instead. Dellavedova, one of the chief villains among Hawks fans during the championship series, was applauded for the display of sportsmanship. In 2016, Dellavedova won an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside legendary scorer LeBron James. Afterwards, he signed a four-year deal to play with the Milwaukee Bucks, although he returned to Cleveland from 2018 to 2021. He also later played for the Sacramento Kings before returning to Australia. Dellavedova was also part of the national Boomers team that won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Expressions of interest for the home close on June 30.

Dellavedova set to join Brian Goorjian at NBL Kings

NBA championship winner Matthew Dellavedova is set to rejoin forces with former Boomers coach Brian Goorjian after reportedly signing with the Sydney Kings on a multi-year deal. Dellavedova entered the NBL's free agency period on Friday as one of the most sought-after players, with both Perth and Brisbane interested in his services, as well as his current club Melbourne United. But according to ESPN, the 34-year-old has settled on joining the Kings, who are coached by Goorjian. Just last month, Goorjian appointed Dellavedova's former Boomers teammate Andrew Bogut as an assistant coach. Both the Kings and United declined to comment on Dellavedova's future when contacted on Sunday. Dellavedova is a four-time Olympian, helping Australia to break through for a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Games. He also won an NBA Championship alongside LeBron James at the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. Dellavedova spent the past two seasons at Melbourne United, who during that period suffered heartbreaking grand-final series defeats to the Tasmania JackJumpers then the Illawarra Hawks. The star guard produced a classy act last month when he handed his grand final MVP award to Will Hickey in the belief his Hawks opponent was the more deserving winner. Other big names on the free agency list include Keanu Pinder, Josh Bannan and Sam Froling. Key imports also on the table include championship winner Trey Kell III, Kendric Davis, Montrezl Harrell, Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Matt Hurt, Milton Doyle and Jaylen Adams.

NBL MVP says viral moment 'shouldn't have happened'

Will Hickey sees Matthew Dellavedova's viral handover of the NBL championship series MVP as something that "didn't need to happen." Following the Hawks 114-104 game five grand-final victory on Sunday, Dellavedova was named as the MVP of the series. Moments after stepping onto the stage, the 34-year-old Boomer said "Davo (Hickey) this really belongs to you. You had a hell of a series." With cheers cascading from the Illawarra fans, he walked off stage, shook Hickey's hand and gave him the honour, even though it wouldn't change what goes in the record books . The 25-year-old respects the guard for his gesture, but said that he shouldn't have had to do it in the first place. "We both got put in an awkward position, that's what I think," he told AAP. "It speaks for itself. We didn't need to be there, but we were there and now we're talking about it." "I didn't expect it to happen, but Dellavedova had a great season. He was very classy." Hickey was instrumental for the Hawks as they took out the epic best-of-five series dropping 77 points, 29 rebounds and 30 assists across the matches. In the penultimate fixture the 25-year-old shined bright, netting 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Along with a 26-point contribution from American import Trey Kell, the Hawks claimed their first championship in 24 years, something punters wouldn't have expected after their campaign started 2-7. Dellavedova had a memorable season himself, finishing second assists on average and netting 60 points across the grand final series, thrusting himself into conversations that the Boomers should keep him on their books. But his efforts came to an emotional end, with his side unable to win a second-consecutive championship. In 2019, Will Hickey was playing limited minutes in NBL1. In 2025, he's an @NBL champion 🏆 — NBL1 (@NBL1) March 23, 2025 For Hickey, who featured in the NBL's second division NBL1 competition two seasons ago, the win capped a momentous rise in Australian basketball. "I woke up (the day after) and it was all a dream. It's been euphoric," he said. "I've had random men come up to me and scream in my face. You can understand how much it means to them. "I'm glad I've been able to do something like this in my career. "I want to take this as far as possible. I want to push myself and play at the highest level I can."
