What was his cause of death? Per the Rochester (N.Y.) Rochester Pride Parade 2025 fills the streets with color and celebration: See the photos

Hundreds lined the way in the South Wedge July 19 to see the 2025 Rochester Pride Parade. More than 200 groups or floats were in the parade, which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and culminates a Pride Week of events. Luckily, the weather was not as hot and miserable as the prior one. It was sunny and warm for the parade, but not unbearable. A festive feeling, smiles and lots of bright colors drew attention at the community event, a tradition. It was also a chance to see old friends. Diane Miller of Rochester attended the Pride parade and festival and thought the event was amazing. 'Rochester's a big melting pot, we have a lot of different nationalities, we have a lot of different diverse people and this is when people come together,' Miller said. 'It doesn't matter if it's a pride event or another event, everybody comes together, but the support here for pride is amazing.' Miller also expressed the importance of holding this event especially at a time when the Trump administration is making executive actions that could impact the LGBTQ community. 'This event is important because just when they're trying to beat us down, they will not beat us down,' Miller said. — Kerria Weaver works as the Government and You reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle, with a focus on how government actions affect communities and neighborhoods in Rochester and in Monroe County. Mayor Malik Evans delivers message after Democratic primary win

Mayor Malik Evans held a press conference June 25 after winning the Democratic primary mayoral race for Rochester the night before. Evans won the race with a total of 7,601 votes, defeating his two opponents — Councilmember Mary Lupien, who received 4,431 votes; and IT Executive Shashi Sinha, with 1,329 votes. During the conference Evans spoke about how proud he was of his campaign and their ability to stay positive throughout the process. "There was a lot of misinformation, a lot of slings and arrows thrown at our record, but we did not let that deter us,' Evans said. "We took our message right to the voters and that is what we will continue to do as we go into November." Evans also addressed how the city joined a lawsuit regarding EPA funding that was frozen to many cities, including Rochester, and his plan to continue dealing with these federal issues. He also mentioned that he will continue to focus on issues such as mental health support, public safety and going forward with a variety of planned projects. "I ran this entire campaign as a cheerleader for Rochester and that is what I will continue to be, a happy warrior for our city, because if we in leadership look down on our city, what are we doing?" Evans said. "We can identify the problems but let's make sure we come up with a solution and that is what we want to do." — Kerria Weaver works as the Government and You reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle, with a focus on how government actions affect communities and neighborhoods in Rochester and in Monroe County. Can my neighbor park in front of my house in Rochester? What city code says

Rochester has rules and regulations for parking just like any other city. Whether you're parking for an event, going to the store or simply parking your car alongside the street to take a stroll through the city it's important to pay attention and follow posted signs. But what are the rules when it comes to parking your car in front of a neighbor's house? Can someone just park right in front of your home? The short answer is yes as long as it's a public street and the person is following the posted parking regulations. According to the Rochester City Code, stopping, standing or parking in front or within five feet of a public or private driveway is prohibited. No person can park a vehicle or allow a vehicle to be parked on private property in the city except where parking is allowed under the Rochester Zoning Code. Other areas people are not allowed to park include within 30 feet of any stop or yield sign, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or within 50 feet of a railroad crossing. Parking on sidewalks or within 20 feet of a crosswalk is also prohibited. Parking in an intersection is illegal except that within a T-intersection, parking is allowed opposite the intersecting street unless specifically prohibited by the Traffic Control Board. Some specific neighborhoods within a city can have their own regulations, such as the Corn Hill neighborhood. The neighborhood contains many narrow and one-way streets that are unfavorable to heavy traffic. According to the city code many of the properties in the Corn Hill neighborhood do not contain adequate space for driveways. As a result, the streets within the area generally represent the only space available to residents for parking. Due to the unique circumstances and the location of the neighborhood, a residential parking system is in place to ensure residents and employees can find on-street parking convenient to their homes or workplaces. Vehicles parked on certain designated streets in the neighborhood must display a valid residential or employee parking permit. Illegally parked cars in Rochester may receive a parking ticket and could potentially be towed. An initial parking violation fine can range anywhere from $40 to $150. If the fine is not paid within 30 days of a ticket's issue date the fine will increase. A car can be booted if the owner has three or more unpaid parking violation tickets that are at least 90 days old. Vehicles are also held at the City's Auto Impound for parking tickets owed on a vehicle or previously registered vehicle. — Kerria Weaver works as the Government and You reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle, with a focus on how government actions affect communities and neighborhoods in Rochester and in Monroe County. Major auto company shuttering 145 stores across US

America's second-largest automotive company is closing 145 stores across the nation after sales recently dropped by $5.2 million, the company's top leader announced. Headquartered in Fairport, New York, Monro Inc., will shutter the shops after reporting a 4.9% decrease in sales in the 2025 fiscal year ended March 29, the company's president and CEO Peter Fitzsimmons announced during its latest earnings report. The move comes as the automobile repair business' leaders identified four key areas of focus as opportunities to boost sales and earnings including closing doors to its more than 100 "underperforming stores," said Fitzsimmons, named CEO on March 31. Fitzsimmons, partner and managing director of AlixPartners, a global consulting firm, replaced the company's former president Michael Broderick. Other goals include" improving our customer experience and selling effectiveness, driving profitable customer acquisition and activation, and increasing merchandising productivity, including mitigating tariff risk," Fitzsimmons said according to a May 28 news release. "While our improvement plan will take time to implement, I believe that we will drive enhanced profitability and increase operating income and total shareholder returns in fiscal 2026.' The company, according to the release, reported sales decreased 6.4% to $1.195 billion from $1.277 billion during the previous 2024 fiscal year. Net loss for fiscal 2025 was $5.2 million compared to net income of $37.6 million in the prior year period, the release continues. Should you buy that car? It makes sense to own one in these cities. Monro is closing 145 stores across the U.S. It was not immediately known which locations will close. USA TODAY has reached out to Monro. Monro has more than 1,300 locations: more than 1,200 are owned by the company and 48 are franchised, according to information from Monro's website and the Democrat and Chronicle, part of the USA TODAY Network. Stores include its flagship brand, Monro Auto Service and Tire Centers as well as Mr. Tire Auto Service Centers. Other brands are: Tire Barn Warehouse Tire Warehouse Ken Towery's Tire & Auto Care Allen Tire Company Monro Commercial Solutions Car-X Tire and Auto Tire Choice Auto Service Centers Free Service Tire Company, Inc. Mountain View Tire & Auto Service Skip's Tire Lloyd's Tire Calabasas Car Care Bud's Tires The move also comes after the auto company announced in June 2023 it planned to sell its headquarters in Rochester, New York. Founder Chuck August started Monro after he opened a Midas Muffler shop in 1957, the Democrat and Chronicle reported in 1998. Over the next eight years, August added three more Midas shops, then broke off with the franchiser in a dispute over what services would be offered. In the end, August named his new stores Monroe, and he wanted to save the large 'M' on the signs. However, 'onroe' wouldn't fit where 'idas' had been, so he dropped the 'e.'
