Denbighshire project gets national recognition at TPAS Cymru
The Denbighshire-based project won an award in the 'Engaging Tenants in Environmental Initiatives/Projects' category at the TPAS Cymru Good Practice Awards 2025. The Thriving Partnerships, Transforming Communities project is a collaboration between Denbighshire County Council's Community Resilience Team, Actif Gogledd Cymru, Grwp Cynefin, and the council's Countryside Services. Councillor Rhys Thomas, Denbighshire's lead member for housing and communities, said: "I'd like to congratulate everyone involved in this fantastic project for their well-deserved recognition in winning the TPAS Cymru award. "We're thrilled to have won and proud to showcase the power of community-led transformation. "This success celebrates the project's innovative model as one that could be replicated in other communities across Wales." The project focuses on areas including Clawdd Poncen and Upper Denbigh, and aims to improve physical activity, reduce social isolation, and address health inequalities. Judges praised the scheme for its inclusive approach and visible impact. They said: "This one really stood out. "Choosing areas like Upper Denbigh and Clawdd Poncen, which face high deprivation, showed a strong commitment to inclusion. "From youth groups to social housing tenants, everyone had a voice, and it was obvious they were being heard. "You can see and feel the transformation. "Underused fields are now orchards, pump tracks, benches, and fit trails designed with residents. "There's reduced anti-social behaviour, and people are taking ownership of their spaces. "Really good case study on community engagement." The award-winning project transforms underused green spaces into community assets. It has converted neglected fields into orchards, fitness trails, seating areas, and other amenities. Nerys Price-Jones, director of people at Grŵp Cynefin, said: "The project showcases the power of collaboration and community-led action in creating greener, more connected spaces. "The award is a testament to the passion, creativity and commitment of our staff and partners. "They are projects that are making a real difference to our communities and environment." The project was funded through the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, via Actif Gogledd Cymru and the Nature for Health programme.

Wynne Construction Secures Multi-Million-Pound Contracts with Welsh Housing Association
A Denbighshire-based construction firm has been awarded a duo of design and build contracts totalling more than £20 million by North Wales' largest housing association. Wynne Construction began building a new 47-home social housing complex on Berse Road, Wrexham, in March following its appointment from Adra. With a scheduled completion date of autumn 2026, the £9 million development will consist of apartments and a mixture of two, three, and four-bedroom homes that are available to rent. The contractor is also set to build 49 social houses on Abergele Road, Bodelwyddan, a stone's throw away from its headquarters. Work is expected to start this summer and finish in spring 2027, with the design phase of the £11 million project already underway. Wynne Construction commercial director Simon Moreton said: 'We have previously worked on behalf of Adra on major builds including Plas Penhros and Pen Y Ffridd, so I'm looking forward to continuing our positive relationship. 'As usual, we will engage with local suppliers to not only provide the necessary materials, but to boost the region's economy.' Wynne Construction quantity surveyor Corey Jones said: 'With around 80 to 100 people expected to work on each site at peak times, both developments will have a busy environment, but thanks to our experienced and skilled team members, I'm confident we will deliver quality results. 'In addition, we aim to give back to the community by welcoming apprentices and work experience students on site to give them real insight into the construction industry.' Huw Evans, Adra's Head of Development, said: 'We're delighted to be working with Wynne Construction on these two exciting new developments. 'We have a strong track record of working in partnership with the company to build new homes across North Wales. There is an increasing demand for quality, affordable homes that people can be proud of and we have made a firm commitment in our Corporate Plan to continue with our ambitious development programme. 'We look forward to see the work progressing on the Berse Road site and the works getting underway at Bodelwyddan. Wynne Construction operates throughout Wales and the North West of England, and regularly leads on projects in sectors including education, social housing, healthcare, and sport and leisure. The company is also on the North Wales Construction Partnership (NWCP), Pagabo's Medium Works Framework, the South-East and mid-Wales Collaborative Construction Framework (SEWSCAP3) and the South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework (SSWRCF).

North Wales developer booms as backs up its 'fastest growing' tag

More info A Denbighshire-based construction firm's five-year strategic growth plan is on the right track after turnover increased by more than 25%. Wynne Construction announced revenue reached £91million in the 12 months to July 31, 2024, a figure which is up from £71m in the previous financial year. Pre-tax profits increased from £2m to £2.3m. The Bodelwyddan-headquartered company's latest accounts underlined why it was named one of the 50 fastest growing businesses in Wales during 2024. As recently as 2022, turnover was hovering around the £33m mark. Wynne has also carried out key improvements including environmental enhancements to its Charles House headquarters as it bids to futureproof the building as well as boost potential growth opportunities. A new management suite has been created, featuring state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities and new offices, as part of a second-story extension at Kinmel Park. Wynne Construction managing director Chris Wynne said: 'We are well-positioned for further sustainable, disciplined progress, which has always been our long-term vision for the business, our employees, and the supply chain. (Image: Outwrite) 'Our main focus area remains sustaining long-term client relationships, and coupled with our growth plans, is key to winning contracts, attracting and retaining talent, and developing an enviable reputation.' Wynne is working on multi-million-pound schemes including Sunnyside Wellness Village in Bridgend, Haverfordia House apartments and reablement centre in Haverfordwest, and a new leisure centre in Newport. It's also building the Enterprise, Engineering, and Optics Centre (EEOC) for Wrexham University, Pontllanfraith Centre for vulnerable learners in Caerphilly, and a new school on Wrexham Road in Chester. With a £72m year-end order book, the company is relishing the future, with Chris adding: 'The strength of our project pipeline is of great pride. 'We will, however, not rest on our laurels, especially given the landscape of many sectors within the country, not least the construction industry and the rising costs of material and increased demand for modern methodology. We are committed to sustainability, and by embracing innovative techniques we are consistently driving forward as a business.' Wynne Construction was named one of the top 200 in the UK Fast Growth Index for 2024, the programme which identifies the fastest-growing companies in seven regions and nations in the UK. As one of the 350 firms identified, Wynne contributed to the 2024 UK Fast Growth Index's collective turnover increase of £9.6billion between 2021 and 2023 and the creation of 24,000 new jobs in two years.
