Mirror's Daily Digest - from survival kit warning to cruise ship horror
In this Monday's Mirror Daily Digest, we've pulled together the biggest stories of the day from the government's advice on 72-hour emergency kits to the Disney Dream cruise ship horror Welcome to the Mirror's Daily Digest, where we'll be pulling together all the best stories of the day from our News, Showbiz, Sport teams and more. This Monday, we're featuring everything from the government's advice to Brits on preparing a 72-hour emergency kit, through to the Disney cruise horror after a girl tumbled into the Atlantic Ocean. We've also got an exclusive with Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver who addressed 'catfights' and 'fallouts' with her Loose Women co-star Denise Welch. Meanwhile, our Politics team broke the news that around 150,000 people will still be pushed into poverty under the watered-down welfare cuts. Full list of what every home needs in 72-hour survival kit Governments in both the UK and Europe have urged residents to assemble 72-hour emergency kits within their homes, filled with essential supplies that could sustain them for at least three days in times of crisis, our News team reports. In the UK, this message has been reinforced by the unveiling of the Prepare website by Oliver Dowden. This portal provides practical advice for ensuring households are better equipped to deal with various emergencies such as floods, power outages or pandemics. The website has outlined what the emergency kits should ideally contain, with items including non-perishable food, water, baby supplies, first aid kit, and a battery or wind-up radio. The UK government has acknowledged that buying all these items at once may prove challenging for some. Instead, the advice is to build up supplies gradually as and when possible, avoiding panic buying, reports the Daily Record. Loose Women star addresses 'catfights' and 'massive fallout' with Denise Welch There's never a dull moment on the Loose Women set, and show regular Sue Cleaver spoke exclusively to Love Sunday about the ITV programme. The Coronation Street icon said: "I love that show. It's brilliant. I've known all the girls for years, so, yeah." When quizzed on the speculation about women at war and in-fighting, Sue replied: "They always like to say 'catfights', but they only say that about women, don't they? They wouldn't dream of saying that when it's blokes presenting something. Actually we're very tight. But it happens a lot when Denise [Welch] and I are on together. "We've known each other for 25 years – we're close friends and have a sort of shorthand in the way we communicate. The press will say 'massive fallout', but I've never fallen out with Denise in my life! It's quite awful, we've still got so far to go that it's depressing." All 51 Premier League players out of contract today ahead of free transfer moves Our Sports team has been closely following the latest updates on June 30 cut-off point for football players whose deals had been due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season. A total of 51 Premier League stars have just hours left on their existing contracts before becoming free agents or sealing free transfer moves, they wrote. Retained and released lists have been published, goodbyes have been said and lockers have been cleared out. Some players will already have their next move lined up while others enter the free agent market. Once the clock ticks past midnight and Tuesday begins, those out-of-contract stars are able to join a new club for free thanks to the Bosman rule. There's been some last-minute movement, though, as Friday saw Manchester United announce that goalkeeper Tom Heaton had signed a contract extension while it was confirmed that Everton captain Seamus Coleman had also signed a new deal. In other news, our Politics team broke that around 150,000 people will still be pushed into poverty under the government's watered-down welfare cuts, new modelling suggests. It comes after Keir Starmer offered major concessions last week after a rebellion over 120 Labour MPs threatened the government with defeat in the Commons. In a dramatic climbdown, the Prime Minister agreed to protect all existing claimants from losing Personal Independence Payments - a key disability benefit. The changes to PIP will now only apply to new claims from November 2026. But new modelling published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) today says an additional 150,000 individuals will be in relative poverty after housing costs by the end of 2029-30. The modelling said the estimate does not include any "potential positive impact" from extra funding to support people with disabilities and long-term health conditions into work. Dad dives into sea after daughter falls overboard on Disney Dream cruise ship Finally, a dad dived into the waves after his young daughter fell overboard during a Disney Dream cruise in the Atlantic Ocean. Horrified passengers watched as a 'man overboard' alert was sounded and a major rescue effort launched. He managed to keep the terrified girl's head above water as crew members from the liner took to the seas in a rescue boat and battled to reach them. The drama took place as the $900m Disney Dream was on its return voyage to Fort Lauderdale from the Bahamas on Sunday. MailOnline reported passenger Dewayne Smith posted to Facebook: "We re on the Disney Dream at sea today and just witnessed a first on a cruise. A little girl fell overboard and her dad jumped overboard to try to save her. Man overboard calls went up immediately. The Disney crew went into action asap. Lots of praying folks on this ship! Both the little girl and dad were both successfully rescued."

Lewis Capaldi pictured partying with Loose Women star and pals at Glastonbury
Lewis posed for the camera with Denise Welch and her friends at the iconic festival. Lewis Capaldi was spotted at Glastonbury posing up a storm with Loose Women star Denise Welch and her pals. The Scots singer played a surprise set at the Somerset festival on Friday afternoon. His appearance delighted fans at Worthy Farm after he had taken an 'extended break' from the music business two years ago. In 2023, whilst on stage at the festival, Lewis was visibly struggling with his Tourette's Syndrome to the point fans had to finish his songs for him. But on Friday Lewis surprised crowds as the TBA act and told them: 'The last three years haven't been the best for me. It's been a difficult time. This has been my f***ing goal, to get back here doing this.' He added: 'The second time's a charm. I've really really missed doing this over the last few years. As I say, it's been difficult at times to think that this maybe wouldn't ever happen again. "Genuinely from the bottom of my heart, it means the f***ing world.' And following his incredible performance it seemed Lewis stuck around to see the rest of the acts of the evening which included headliners The 1975. The band's frontman is Matty Healy, who just happens to be the son of Loose Women star Denise Welch. And it seems Denise and her pals pulled Lewis aside for a snap which was then later posted on Instagram. Ahead of Lewis' surprise set which has delighted fans all over the world, he released his brand new song, Survive, which is already sitting at number 1 in the charts. The emotional song, which charts his battle with anxiety and Tourette's, marks another successful comeback by the singer. The song has become the nation's biggest selling track of the week with Someone You Loved also tipped by the Official Charts Company to re-enter the Top 20. Survive had been described by 28-year old Lewis's team as 'a bold and brave new anthem that underscores a challenging period in his career that ended at Glastonbury 2023 when the Pyramid Stage crowd helped carry an emotional Capaldi over the finish line.' In it, he sings, 'I swear to God I'll survive, if it kills me to, I'm gonna' get up and try, if it's the last thing I'll do.' The worldwide success and adulation took its toll and he stayed out of the limelight before playing the Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage to one of the weekend's biggest crowds. He fought back the tears several times during the show at the Worthy Farm site and was met with a deafening roar having taken the stage. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Pop star sparks feud with Loose Women favourite as she takes swipes during foul-mouthed Glasto set
POP singer Kate Nash has taken a swipe at Denise Welch while performing at Glastonbury. The star, 37, headlined the Left Field tent at the festival and launched into a foul-mouthed tirade at various people including JK Rowling, Rod Stewart - and surprisingly the Loose Women favourite. 4 4 4 Kate ranted: 'The music industry doesn't know what to do with me. They tried to get rid of me, but they didn't. There is a record executive sweating their t*** off with Matt Healy 's mum. 'They're scared of me. I like that. But I was made of mother f****** bricks. But they didn't believe me. I even gave them a second warning a few years later when I told them 'Do not underestimate the girl'. Is it my fault they didn't believe me? 'I'm not going to give my third warning. It's too late for that. I'm taking my bricks and I'm throwing them through the f****** window.' Denise was at Glastonbury this weekend to support her son Matt Healy who was headlining with his band The 1975. Matt meanwhile preached love to fans during the band's set on the Pyramid Stage. Pausing between songs to address the crowd on Friday night, he said: "The lack of politics in this show, it is a conscious decision. "We don't want our legacy to be one of politics - we want it to be that of love and friendship. "You go out into the world and there is loads of politics. We don't need more, we need more love and friendship. "If you are a young kid and inspired about this band, aspire for friendship and love in what you do and you will never fail - and I love you." Last year Kate revealed she had joined OnlyFans to fund her tour. She said the extra money meant she wouldn't have to compromise on things like staff wages and safe tour buses that aren't overcrowded. Kate said she was determined to put on a "high quality show for fans" and said of her money-making campaign: "I've got a great bum. "I often flash a bit anyway so it was a fun idea, but I didn't think it would get this much of a reaction." Kate's debut album, Made Of Bricks, which went straight to No1 when it came out in 2007. 4 Kate split from her label and self-released her third and fourth records, the latter being called Yesterday Was Forever in 2018. She previously revealed she found herself in financial difficulty. The Brit School alum told The Guardian of the dip in her success after Foundations and said: "I'd trusted the wrong people with my money, which meant I had to sell my flat and move back in with my parents. "I'd worked so hard and had nothing to show for it. The worst part was that I knew I wasn't going to give up. "I briefly thought I should become a teacher instead, but then I realised: 'How are you going to do that? You don't even have a degree because you didn't get into any universities.' "Having this career is about fighting your way through it."

Kate Nash takes bitter foul-mouthed swipe at Rod Stewart, JK Rowling and Denise Welch during Glastonbury set
Kate Nash did not hold back her feelings as took a foul-mouthed swipe at Rod Stewart, JK Rowling, Denise Welch, Keir Starmer and Nigel Farage on Saturday. The singer, 37, headlined the Left Field tent at Glastonbury Festival and seemed to slam the Harry Potter author during her set. Kate said: 'The loudest feminist voice in the UK is currently transphobic and that is something that I take very f****** personally, as a feminist and a feminist with trans friends in my life, trans people that I love and that are very important to me. 'Dismantling systems of oppression lies at the very core of feminism, so transphobia is not f****** feminist. And just because you're a f******* millionaire and a f****** bully with an army of trolls on the f****** internet. 'I don't give a f*** mate. I don't give a s*** about the hundreds, if not thousands of comments, that I've been receiving from trolls since I penned my essay, released it into a song. It's called Germ.' Following the rant aimed at Rowling, the Foundations hitmaker laid into music bosses and Denise Welch, who was also at Worthy Farm supporting her son Matt Healy 's band The 1975. Kate continued: 'The music industry doesn't know what to do with me. They tried to get rid of me, but they didn't. There is a record executive sweating their t*** off with Matt Healy's mum. I'm taking my bricks and I'm throwing them through the f****** window.' Ahead of kicking-off her song D***head, Kate added: 'F*** Rod Stewart. This one [Why You Being A D****head For] goes out to Keir Starmer, JK Rowling, Rod Stewart and Nigel f****** Farage.' Earlier this week, 80-year-old singer Rod, who took to the stage for the teatime set at Glastonbury, claimed the country was 'fed up' with the Tories and that Labour was trying to ditch Brexit. He accused the Prime Minister of giving Scottish fishing rights 'back to the EU', although the Government insists it has simply renewed an existing deal for European boats. His views represent a second volte-face given that he appeared to support Labour at last year's election – despite previously backing the Conservatives. Asked where Britain's political future now lay, he told The Times: 'It's hard for me because I'm extremely wealthy, and I deserve to be, so a lot of it doesn't really touch me. 'But that doesn't mean I'm out of touch. For instance, I've read about Starmer cutting off the fishing in Scotland and giving it back to the EU. That hasn't made him popular. 'We're fed up with the Tories. We've got to give Farage a chance. He's coming across well. What options have we got? I know some of his family, I know his brother, and I quite like him.' Kate shot to fame in the Noughties with her debut album Made of Bricks, which came out in 2007 and went straight to Number 1 in the music charts. Despite having huge success, the former Brit School alumni later discovered her manager had stolen vast sums of money from her, which left her almost bankrupt. After parting ways with her record label, she was forced to sell her flat and move back in with her parents. Alongside singing, Kate went on to land a part in Netflix series Glow, about female wrestlers in the Eighties, but this was cancelled part way through filming the fourth season. The songstress has still been making music, but in November last year revealed she had joined adults only site OnlyFans as she 'needed the money'. She made the announcement on her Instagram stories with a cheeky pic of her bum. Though she has been releasing new music recently, the musician shared she had joined the racy app as 'touring makes losses'.

Matty Healy's mother Denise Welch grins alongside pop megastar Charli XCX at Glastonbury ahead of her son's divisive headlining set with The 1975
Denise Welch made an unexpected friend at Glastonbury just hours before her son Matty Healy headlined the Pyramid Stage. The Loose Women star, 67, rubbed shoulders with the BRAT hitmaker, 32, as she attended the festival to show support for her rock star son. Denise took to Instagram to share a photograph of herself beaming alongside Charli as she socialised with the top musicians at the festival. She captioned the sun-soaked snap: 'Talking about my BRAT flag.' Denise also shared photographs with beauty expert Caroline Hirons and American model and musician Gabbriette. The trio looked like they were having the time of their lives as they sported matching white floral jackets. Denise went for a boho-chic look in a black dress, brown cowboy boots, and a black wide-cap hat studded with metal medallions. Denise, who shares Matty with ex-husband Tim Healy, beamed as she modeled a pink lip and matching fuscia-coloured nails. Gabbriette, 27, cut a stylish figure in cropped beige shorts, knee-high boots and an oversized pair of shades. The 1975 left Glastonbury fans divided as they took to the Pyramid stage on Friday to headline the first day of the festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset. In their first and only gig of the year, frontman Matty, 36, was in great spirits as he smoked a cigarette and drank a pint of Guinness before belting out a number of the band's biggest hits. However, their set split the opinions of those tuning in at the festival and at home, with some branding their performance 'bland', causing some to even switch off. While many took also aim at the swaggering lead singer, known for his outlandish behaviour, calling him 'insufferable' and 'about as rock & roll as Aled Jones.' Elsewhere, at-home viewers were left raging over BBC technical issues, with the broadcaster's iPlayer service appearing to 'crash' during the set. The 1975 left Glastonbury fans divided as they took to the Pyramid stage on Friday to headline the first day of the festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset Taking to X, fans made their feelings very clear on Matty and The 1975's headlining performance. They penned: 'How bad were #The1975 at #Glastonbury2025 a bloke who spent the first half hour staggering around drinking pints & smoking tabs, and the rest of the time faffing about with his hair, while being in the most boring band going, surely #Glastonbury can't get any worse, can it. 'I saw #The1975 in their very early days, was very underwhelmed then. Gave them another go this evening, awful. Songs all sound the same and a terrible front man. There were huge gaps around us near the front. #glastonbury got this one wrong sadly.' 'Matty Healy trying to play the archetypal rock & roller with the leather jacket, pint of Guinness and a cigarette while simultaneously performing some of the blandest music imaginable is quite the contradiction. About as rock & roll as Aled Jones.' 'Admittedly, I like #The1975's first record, but Matty Healy is so obsessed with trying to be edgy (he's not) that it just comes across as Liam Gallagher caricature. His band's headlining #Glastonbury yet he can't, not for one night, pretend to be anything other than insufferable.' 'Never seen #the1975 live before on TV. You have 1 chance to headline #glastonbury & the lead singer cares more about his Guinness & fags, & staggering all over the stage like an 18 Yr old on their first pint... The songs are wishy washy & bland. Is this it?!' However, in contrast, there were a number of fans who actually loved the set, hailing it as 'epic', with many going on to praise Matty as a frontman. They wrote on X: 'Just saw #The1975 they were so good.' 'Well that was bloody amazing I'm a snotty mess now!! About you was the perfect way to finish it.' Taking to X, fans made their feelings very clear on Matty and The 1975's headlining performance 'Matt Healy a modern front man. That was excellent.' 'I had heard of #the1975 but wouldn't have known any of their songs. Enjoyed the performance, the wide variety of genres they cover, and the set overall. Worthy (pun intended) headliners. I'll be looking out for them in the future.' 'If you don't know the 1975 then I get that it might have been lost on you, but for me that was a f***ing epic show. What a frontman, what a band.' Elsewhere, the highly-anticipated performance was interrupted for those watching at home as BBC iPlayer's livestream appeared to repeatedly crash. Many viewers took to X in their droves to complain about the constant buffering and glitching throughout the headline show. '@BBCiPlayer what's going on this evening, freezing, glitching very unpleasant experience. Please and try and sort it out for the rest of the weekend. Feels like we gone back to the old days of the modem with these problems :(' '#Iplayer is a bit annoying what's with all the glitching @BBCiPlayer #Glastonbury #The1975.' 'would be great if @bbciplayer didnt keep crashing out on the #glastonbury coverage.' 'Ffs @BBCiPlayer I pay my licence and just want to watch #Glastonbury without any glitches but every 10 minutes it has error! Not impressed.' 'how can i watch the 1975 when the f**king stream keeps crashing every 5 minutes @BBCiPlayer.' Matty - the son of Loose Women's Denise Welch and Benidorm's Tim Healy - is famous for his provocative stage presence - and his Glastonbury set was no different. The English singer-songwriter was seen belting out hits while puffing away on a cigarette and sipping from a pint of Guinness. During his set, Matty, who briefly dated popstar Taylor Swift in 2023, claimed to be his generation's 'best songwriter' in a tongue and cheek moment. The Cheshire-formed band, backed with a saxophone, opened with Happiness from 2022's Being Funny In A Foreign Language, with Matty wearing a black leather jacket, white T-shirt and blue jeans, with a pint of stout in his hand on the Pyramid Stage. After performing Part Of The Band, sat on a stool and smoked while sipping his drink, Healy said: 'What this moment is making me realise is that I probably am the best songwriter of my generation. 'The best what they say, a poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am. 'Generational words, and I just wanted to remind you, over the next couple of minutes, these lyrics are poetry, I believe.' The band then launched into Chocolate from their 2013 self-titled debut, before Healy remarked, 'I was only joking about being a poet' at its conclusion. Made up of four school friends, the group, comprised of singer Matty, bassist Ross MacDonald, guitarist Adam Hann and drummer George Daniel, were headlining the festival for the first time. The English singer-songwriter was seen belting out hits while puffing away on a cigarette and sipping from a pint of Guinness Midway through the set, Matty told festival goers: 'Use your platform, that's what they say, right?' He continued: 'People who are watching this may, I don't know, they might be disappointed at the lack of politics in this show and our forthcoming shows, and probably a few shows, because I always know it's a conscious decision, and we honestly don't want our legacy to be one of politics. 'We want it to be that of love and friendship, because we and I'm not trying to be too earnest, but you can go out into the world, and there's loads of politics everywhere. And I think we don't need more politics, we need more love and friendship. 'And I know that's really basic, but if you are a young kid and you are inspired by like about this band or something like that, don't aspire to like play a stage or be a certain size, aspire for like this level of friendship and love in what you do and you'll never fail and I love you, thank you so much.' Love Me, the lead single from 2016's I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It, prompts the first sing-a-long from the crowd, with Healy pushing guitarist Hann to the front, announcing: 'Ladies and gentleman, in 2025 with zero irony, a guitar solo.' Their stage set-up included a car, which Matty got into to sing Somebody Else while smoking a cigarette, before getting out during the song and walking on a travelator. While performing She's American, Matty dipped into The Backstreet Boys I Want It That Way, before returning to his own 2016 song. Before Paris, the singer declared 'this is my favourite 1975 song', and prior to playing Robbers from the band's debut album, he said: 'For the first time in my life I don't know what to say.' The band ended their set with About You from Being Funny In A Foreign Language. Before the song, Matty said: 'Ladies and gentlemen it's very cool to be mysterious but I think it's cooler to be honest and we're not going anywhere, we're not going anywhere, everything's going to be fine.' Earlier in the day, festivalgoers were treated to surprise performances from alternative pop star Lorde, who played her new album Virgin in full, and Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi, who played two years after a performance at the festival during which he struggled to manage his Tourette syndrome symptoms. After performing Part Of The Band, sat on a stool and smoked while sipping his drink, Healy said: 'What this moment is making me realise is that I probably am the best songwriter of my generation' Matty was seen wearing a black leather jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans, with a pint of stout in his hand on the Pyramid Stage Among the celebrities spotted at the event so far included Barbie star Margot Robbie, 34, with her producer husband Tom Ackerley, eight months after giving birth to their first child. Yesterday, moustachioed Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, 48, read out letters from around the world in the Greenpeace area in a feature called 'Letters Live'. Meanwhile, thousands of unsuspecting fans were treated to surprise performances from Lewis Capaldi and Lorde yesterday. Lewis choked back tears as he declared 'I'm back baby' during an emotional return to Glastonbury's iconic Pyramid Stage. The Scottish singer, 28, was greeted with cheers from the huge Worthy Farm crowd, two years after his battle with Tourettes left him unable to finish his performance at the festival and led to a career hiatus. Delighted to back in front of an audience he tearfully said: 'Two years ago I wasn't sure if I'd ever do this again, but I'm back baby!''. Lewis sung a number of his famous hits, before once chocking back tears as he performed brand new single Survive, which highlights the difficult period in his career following his last Glastonbury gig. Fans in the crowd could be seen crying and calling out his name before joining him in a rendition of megahit Someone You Loved. In his emotional speech, Lewis said: ' Glastonbury it's good to be back. Won't say too much up here today as if I do I might start crying, but I can't thank you enough for coming here and being with here'. 'Second times a charm hey! It's a short set today but just wanted to come and finish what I couldn't last time, also this was like the worst kept f*****g secret ever'. Following his set Lewis took to Instagram with footage of his performance alongside a post which read: 'Glastonbury it's so incredible to be back, thank you so much for having me x' Fans and famous friends rushed to the comments to welcome the talented musician back into the public eye. Sam Fender said: 'Return of The King', while Alan Shearer said: 'Love It': Paddy McGuinness gushed: 'Governor' and Jade Thirlwall shared a slew of loving emojis. Following his emotional set at Worthy Farm in June 2023, the singer took time off to focus on his mental health and to 'adjust to the impact' of his Tourette's diagnosis. Also performing on Glastonbury's first day was CMAT, Lola Young, Alanis Morissette, as well Lorde with her own secret set. Meanwhile Rizzle Kicks also made a return to the stage after their own 11 year hiatus and were joined by a surprise guest. Harley 'Sylvester' Alexander-Sule and Jordan Stephens performed the biggest hits, with the later introducing his mum on stage during their track Mama Do the Hump. Pointing to his parent, who was wearing a green wig, he exclaimed: 'Give it up for my mum!' as the crowd went wild.
