UAE: 4 expats from Canada, India, Philippines win Dh50,000 each in Big Ticket

Four individuals win big this week in the Big Ticket e-draw, each taking home Dh50,000; the winners include nationals from Canada, India, and the Philippines. Originally from the Philippines, Dennis Mallari has been participating in Big Ticket draws since 2012. He purchased his ticket early, a week ahead of the draw, hoping it might increase his chances of winning, and it did. For the past year, he has been buying tickets every month with a group of seven colleagues, all of whom work as photographers. Together, they purchase two tickets monthly and have long been dreaming of one day winning the grand prize. "I will be sharing this prize with my group, but I'll continue buying tickets every month in the hopes of winning the grand prize one day,' he said. He plans to use his portion of the cash prize as savings and to invest in future ticket purchases. Tubin Baby from India purchased three tickets and received six additional tickets free as part of the ongoing bundle offer. It was one of these free tickets that secured his win. He was overjoyed upon hearing the news. From Canada, Anthony Guidon also took part in the ongoing bundle offer, which granted him six tickets. His lucky win came from one of these free tickets. He was ecstatic when he found out. Abu Dhabi resident, Goutam Ghosh purchased his ticket online just a few days before the draw. He has been buying tickets on and off over the years, always on his own, and this time, his single ticket turned out to be the lucky one. He shared that his wife didn't know he had bought a ticket, and he now plans to surprise her with the prize and celebrate the win together. High-value rewards in July Big Ticket is kicking off July with a brand-new lineup of high-value rewards, giving customers more reasons to tune in, take part, and look forward to every stage of the draw. The grand prize this month is the Dh20 million, with the winning ticket set to be revealed during the live draw in Abu Dhabi on August 3. On the same night, six additional winners will each walk away with Dh50,000 in cash. Leading up to the live draw, Big Ticket will hold its weekly e-draws, awarding Dh50,000 to four lucky winners. That's a total of 16 cash prizes given away before the main event even begins. That's not all, customers who purchase two or more cash tickets in a single transaction between 1st and 24th July will automatically enter the Big Win Contest. Four participants will be selected to attend the live draw in Abu Dhabi, where each will be guaranteed a cash prize ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh150,000. Finalists will be announced on August 1 on Big Ticket's official website. Car lovers have plenty to be excited about as well. This month's car draw features a Range Rover Velar, with the winner to be announced on August 3, followed by a BMW M440i draw taking place on September 3. To top it off, July's promotion also includes a special ticket bundle offer, available all month long:

Emirati professor secretly worked as taxi driver, says Filipinos are polite and always give tips

An Emirati professor secretly worked as a taxi driver and discovered that Filipinos were always polite and consistently gave tips. In an Instagram post by Dennis Mallari, Ammar Shams, an Emirati law professor at the British University in Dubai, shared that he worked as a taxi driver for two months in 2023. Shams revealed that he decided to drive a taxi to understand Dubai residents and citizens more as well as the city where he spent most of his life. Over the two months of working as a taxi driver, however, one certain nationality caught his attention. 'There was one behavior that stands out. One nationality, one group of people, consistently and without fail, gave me a tip,' he said. Although the tips were small in amounts, he was amazed by the consistency of Filipinos giving tips. 'Small as it may be, it may have been two dirhams or five dirhams, but every single time a Filipino got in my taxi, they gave me a tip,' Shams said. Another thing that Shams noticed is that Filipinos always treated him politely. 'The other aspect that I found very refreshing was that they were amongst the most polite and respectful passengers I had,' Shams shared. 'They consistently referred to me as Kuya, which I will always keep dear to my heart,' he added. At the end of the video, he expressed his appreciation to all the Filipinos out there. 'Thank you, Filipinos, for being who you are,' Shams concluded. Watch the full video here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dennis Mallari (@dennisbmallari)
