Ayush promotes yoga to combat diabetes
Mysuru: Department of Ayush has started promoting yoga to combat non-communicable diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and other mental health disorders at its Ayushman Arogya mandirs across the district. The department has 33 ayurveda hospitals, including those in Mysuru and other taluk headquarters. Among them, 20 hospitals are upgraded to Ayushman Arogya Kendras , including Jayanagar in Mysuru, adhering to Indian public health standards. These are provided with all required infrastructure including staffers, medical supplies, diagnostic tools, and other essentials. It upgraded five other centres in Mysuru taluk, Hunsur (4), Nanjangud (5), Periapatna (2), and KR Nagar (2). These kendras are also known as health and wellness centres as they focus on holistic well-being with ayurveda, yoga, and naturopathy. These kendras were upgraded with all features, including modern furniture, well-stocked medicine shelves, advanced labs, washrooms, drinking water facilities and sanitation facilities. The department also introduced services such as cervical screening, maternal care, and vaccine administration for children between 0 to 16 years under national immunisation programmes, apart from distributing 105 essential medicines. The centres also offer 14 in-house lab tests and 79 outsourced tests including yoga sessions for well-being to avoid non-communicable diseases. The department deputed two yoga trainers in each hospital and Ayushman Arogya Kendras to conduct regular yoga classes for people suffering from NCD health issues. As yoga is recognised for its promotive, preventive, rehabilitative, and curative roles in managing and reducing the risk associated with NCD conditions, hundreds of patients are learning yoga, meditation, pranayama, and other techniques. They also provide tips about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including physical activity, stress management, and healthy dietary habits for preventing NCDs, among other aspects. District Ayush officer Dr Renukadevi said Ayushman Arogya Kendras attract elders after the introduction of yoga sessions along with other healthcare activities. Yoga helps to keep NCDs under control through regular practice. The department also initiated measures to provide wide publicity to encourage people to take part in such sessions in these kendras. The department also renovated KG Koppal (Jayanagar) at the cost of Rs 2 crore to provide nature cure treatment. This hospital is now equipped with physiotherapy and electrotherapy treatment along with panchakarma Ayurveda treatment, she said.

International Yoga Day 2025: It is the 11th edition of the global celebration, with this year's theme as 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', which the PM Modi announced on March 30 during his Mann Ki Baat'. To mark the International Day of Yoga on Saturday, India has organised thematic events and programmes in 1,300 cities featuring the nation's ancient tradition and soft power. PM Modi took part in celebrations in Vishakhapatnam. The theme focusses on how yoga can promote mental tranquillity, physical well-being, and a sense of environmental responsibility in a world grappling with challenges such as climate change, pandemics, and lifestyle-related illnesses. 'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously, we set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement,' ANI quoted Richard as saying. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta emphasised the need to clean the river Yamuna after participating in Yoga event at the banks of the river. Rekha Gupta said, 'Mother Yamuna is the symbol of our faith. For years, Yamuna has been ignored by the governments that have been in power; they didn't do the work that should have been done. But, we are continuing our efforts to clean the river Yamuna since we assumed power in Delhi... Today, from the bank of this river, we participate in Yoga to give a message to the people of Delhi that the work is ongoing to clean the river. Soon, there will be cruises here where the boats are," ANI reported. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said, "We are celebrating the day enthusiastically. By doing regular Yoga, we remain fit. PM Modi had requested for International Yoga Day in UN, the Yoga has got popular, it is being done across the world. I would like to urge people to adopt Yoga in their lives," PTI reported. Border Security Force (BSF) organised a yoga event at the Attari border in Punjab while BSF personnel and locals performed Yoga under 'One Earth, One Health' theme in Rajasthan's Bikaner. Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari participated in Yoga activity at Jaipur's City Palace. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath can be seen performing Yoga on the occasion of International Yoga Day with and other dignitaries. PM Modi on June 21 said, "For the expansion of Yoga in the world, India is empowering the science of Yoga through modern research... We are also encouraging evidence-based therapy in the field of Yoga. Delhi AIIMS has done a good job in this regard. Its research has shown that yoga has a critical role in the treatment of cardiac and neurological disorders, and it also plays an important role in women's health and mental health," ANI reported. PM Modi, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan participated in the grand Yoga session in Visakhapatnam. 'Let this Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for humanity 2.0 where inner peace becomes global policy,' PM Modi said in Visakhapatnam. PM Modi said, "The theme of this year's International Day of Yoga is 'Yoga For One Earth, For One Health'. This theme reflects a deep truth: the health of every entity on Earth is interconnected. Human well-being depends on the health of the soil that grows our food, the rivers that give us water, the health of the animals that share our ecosystems, and the plants that nourish us. Yoga awakens us to this interconnectedness, leads us on a journey towards oneness with the world, and teaches us that we are not isolated individuals but part of nature," ANI reported. 'In the last one decade, when I see the journey of Yoga, it reminds me of many things. The day India put forth a resolution in the UNGA - to recognise June 21 as International Yoga Day- and in a very short time, 175 countries of the world stood with our country. This unity and support in today's world is not a normal incident,' PM Modi said. PM Modi said, "Heartfelt greetings to people across the country and the world on International Yoga Day. For the 11th time, the entire world is coming together on June 21 to practice yoga. Yoga simply means 'to unite', and it is heartening to see how yoga has united the whole world.' Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan performs Yoga with many others at Kishan Mela Ground, Pusa Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the aim is not only to gain global recognition but also to foster a deep-rooted commitment to yoga across the state. As part of this vision, the government plans to introduce yoga into the school curriculum starting from Class 9 and establish a deemed university dedicated to the discipline. Under the guidance of Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, and other attendees perform yoga during the celebrations of the 11th International Day of Yoga.

Rehearsal held ahead of International Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21
Hundreds of yoga practitioners took part in the rehearsal on the Mysuru palace premises on Sunday ahead of the main event of International Day of Yoga to be held on June 21 at the same venue. Braving the inclement weather and intermittent drizzle, the rehearsal followed the standard protocol issued by the Union government. Nearly 3,000 persons cutting across all age groups participated in the reheasal, which was held from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. The event was organised by the district administration and Mysuru Zilla Panchayat in association with the Department of Ayush. The district administration has set a target of drawing 15,000 participants for the Yoga Day event on June 21 and preparations by way of practice, publicity, and other yoga-related events are being held since June 1. The authorities had chalked out a 21-day plan in the run-up to the main event, and these are being held as per schedule, according to officials. The curtain raiser was held on June 1 at Lalitha Mahal Palace grounds and was followed by various promotional events, including Yoga Dhanush and Yoga Unplugged, with performance at various institutions to create greater interest in public in taking part in the Yoga Day event on June 21. The district administration has joined hands with various associations including the Mysuru Yoga Federation, JSS Institutions, yoga organisations in the city for the smooth conduct of this year's event. While the main yoga day event will be held at the palace, various institutions and organisations will conduct the event and perform yoga as per the standard protocol issued by the government. Incidentally, the Mysuru palace was the venue for the lead Yoga Day celebrations in 2022 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. In the days ahead, there will be a slew of publicity and demonstration of yoga in various schools and colleges so that more youngsters are drawn to the practice of yoga and incorporate it as part of their lifestyle. This year's theme is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', underlining the vital role of yoga in promoting a holistic well-being and harmony with environment. The city, which is known to be a yoga hub and draws students from all over the world, has spanned scores of yoga institutions, catering to the growing demand, and most of the institutions will send representatives to participate in the main event.

Ayush Department holding programmes in run-up to International Yoga Day in Shivamogga
The Department of Ayush is organising various programmes in the run-up to the 11th International Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21. Programmes were being organised in educational institutes to spread awareness on the importance of yoga. This year's theme is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. The officers are promoting best practices to maintain good health, including Y-Break, a five-minute yoga protocol designed by the Ministry of Ayush to help working professionals de-stress, refresh, and refocus during the working hours. Lingaraj S. Hindasagatti, the district Ayush officer, told The Hindu that programmes were already organised in two colleges on Wednesday and Thursday. Many more such events would be held in the lead-up to the mega event. 'We are expecting a turnout of more than 1,000 people for the International Yoga Day celebrations. The event will start at 6.30 a.m.,' the officer said. The department has started five wellness centres in rural areas in the district. These centres are promoting yoga among the rural public. Dr. Hindasagatti said that the doctors and yoga trainers at the centres had been actively engaging the rural public in the activities. Many people had been visiting the centres daily, as these activities had impacted their health positively, he said. The centres are located at Purappemane and Hartal in Hosanagara taluk; Maidolalu and Hanumanthapura in Bhadravathi taluk; and at Salur in Tirthahalli taluk.

Mysuru gears up for International Yoga Day with 21-day pre-event activities
The city known to be an international yoga hub is bracing up for International Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21. In the run-up to the actual event, the stakeholders from the Department of Ayush and Federation of Yoga Organisations will conduct a slew of programmes for 21 days culminating with the grand finale at the Mysuru palace on June 21. The curtain raiser for the yoga day event was launched in front of the Lalitha Mahal Palace on Sunday and District Ayush Officer Renuka Devi flagged off the yoga performance in which nearly 300 persons from various institutions, including all Ayush dispensaries, took part in it. Termed as Yoga Dhanush, this was the first of the series of such events planned in the lead up to the global celebrations. Girish, Yoga instructor from the Department of Ayush, said that this was the curtain raiser and in a move to drum up greater public participation, pre-event activities will be held at different places across the city every day culminating with the International Yoga Day on June 21. The theme of this year's global event is Yoga for One Earth, One Health and apart from Yoga Dhanush, the Ayush has planned Yoga Unplugged, Green Yoga (Harit Yoga), Yogodhyana and Yoga Sangama, said Mr. Girish. The Sunday's Yoga Dhanush programme commenced at 7 a.m. and was held for one hour as per the yoga day protocol. There will be another session of Yoga Dhanush on June 6 at the Mall of Mysore, scheduled from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., featuring a 45-minute general yoga demonstration. The Yoga Unplugged initiative will take place on June 4 at the Police Training School in Jyothinagar, where a yoga workshop and awareness campaign will be conducted for female constable trainees between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Details about the remaining events including Green Yoga, Yogodhyana, and Yoga Sangama will be shared with the public in the days ahead. Mysuru has long been recognised for its yoga tradition and was home to legendary teachers like T. Krishnamacharya whose students included B.K.S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois, who played key roles in popularising yoga worldwide. The Wadiyars of Mysuru took the lead in patronising yoga and the then Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar (1794-1868) wrote 'Sritattvanidhi' which also has a chapter on yoga complete with postures. In the present times, Mysuru is home to hundreds of yoga institutions that cater to the growing demand from both local residents and international students who come to the city to learn yoga.
