Chemical fertilizers led the list with export revenues rising to JD 243 million, up 20.9% from JD 201 million in the first quarter of 2024. Jordan's population nears 12 million mark
Jordan's population reached approximately 11,804,870 as of Sunday, April 27, 2025, according to the Department of Statistics' live population clock. This marks an increase from an estimated 11.55 million in mid-2024 and 11.44 million in 2023, reflecting a steady upward trend in the country's population. The annual population growth rate has shown a declining pattern in recent years. In 2023, the growth rate was 0.45 percent, down from 1.23 percent in 2022 and 1.99 percent in 2021. This deceleration is attributed to factors such as declining fertility rates and changes in migration patterns. The current population density is approximately 130 people per square kilometer, with about 85 percent of the population residing in urban areas. The median age is 24.7 years, indicating a relatively young population. Latest data from the department also showed that the inflation rate for March 2025 stood at 1.64 percent, while GDP growth for the fourth quarter of 2024 was recorded at 2.7 percent, indicating continued improvement in economic performance. Unemployment among Jordanians during 2024 stood at around 21.4 percent, while the wholesale trade index grew by 1.25 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, the cumulative trade balance recorded a deficit of JD 920 million by the end of January 2025.

Olive oil output soars 43% during 2025 harvest season
Ammon News - Jordan's olive presses extracted 35,828 tons of olive oil during the 2024/2025 harvest season, marking a robust 43.2 percent year-on-year increase, according to official figures released Sunday. The Department of Statistics' annual olive press survey revealed significant gains across key production metrics, with extraction efficiency climbing to 19.4 percent, up from 18 percent in the previous season, indicating superior fruit quality or improved processing techniques. Mills throughout the kingdom processed a total of 184,903 tons of olives, a substantial 33.1 percent increase over last season's 138,898 tons. Based on fourth-quarter market prices, this year's olive oil production is valued at approximately JD223.9 million, representing a significant contribution to the agricultural sector. Irbid Governorate maintained its dominance in the olive sector, accounting for nearly half the national production. The northern region delivered 89,200 tons of olives to local mills, yielding 17,600 tons of premium oil. In contrast, Aqaba registered minimal production with just 1,300 tons processed, yielding 0.3 tons of oil. The comprehensive survey, conducted jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture, covered all 148 olive presses nationwide, with 146 facilities operational during the season. Industry analysts attribute the production surge to favorable weather conditions, expanded cultivation areas, and enhanced agricultural practices across the kingdom's olive-growing regions. Jordan's olive oil sector continues to play a vital role in rural economies and agricultural exports, with growing international recognition for the quality of Jordanian extra virgin olive oil. Petra
