BHU's Culture Safari toy earns global recognition at South Asian trade show

Varanasi: Culture Safari, an innovative toy developed by research students and faculty from the Department of Visual Arts at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), has been selected among the top 12 entries in a global competition celebrating toys based on Indian tradition and culture. The competition was part of the South Asian B2B Trade Show, held at Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, from July 4 to 7. Jointly organised by the Indian Toy Association and Srijan Communication, the event aimed to showcase India's rich cultural heritage and knowledge systems through modern, innovative toys. Nearly 200 entries were received from educational institutions across the country, with only a dozen chosen for final display. Culture Safari was developed under the guidance of international research student Himesh Babulal, assistant professor Srishti Prajapati, and department head Prof Manish Arora. According to Prof Arora, the game is rooted in the Banarasi knowledge tradition and incorporates miniature wooden toys, boats, cots, musical instruments, and elements of the Pandit tradition—along with GI-tagged local products. "The objective is to allow people to explore Kashi's heritage and Indian traditions in an engaging, educational format," Prof. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Shiloh Jolie debuts new name in unexpected powerful appearance BigGlobalTravel Undo Arora said, adding that the toy is not just a game, but a hands-on cultural experience. Visitors at the exhibition stall had the opportunity to interact with the game firsthand, with Prof. Arora offering detailed demonstrations. During the closing ceremony, he also presented a brochure and booklet on the toy to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Prof Arora emphasized that such events inspire both students and faculty by offering fresh ways to understand and communicate Indian culture.
