'It's the new Night Sleeper': Departure is back on Netflix with a thrilling season 3
Netflix has just added the third season of Canadian suspense drama Departure to its UK platform and we can't get enough of the gripping thriller. Starring Christopher Plummer, Archie Panjabi and Kris Holden Ried, the third season sees Kendra Malley (Panjabi) and her team from the Federal Transportation Safety Authority travel to Newfoundland to investigate the cause of a major ferry sinking. The third season was actually released in the UK in October 2022, with Netflix adding the first and second season to the platform earlier this year. Season 3 was added earlier this month, and the series is now in the UK's Most Watched Shows. Thinking of giving it a watch? (We think you should). Read on for everything you need to know about the series, including the incredible cast list. Created by Vince Shiao, the series follows the Federal Transportation Safety Authority as they investigate high-stakes transport disasters. Each season focuses on a different catastrophic event. Season one revolved around the disappearance of a British passenger flight, season two looked at a train derailment in Ontario which saw many passengers killed, and season three, which is the latest season to drop on Netflix, centres around a ferry incident. Over the six episodes, Malley and her team explore whether the ferry sinking was simply the result of human error or if there's something more sinister at play... Below is a list of the main cast and lead characters from each season: Main cast Season 1 cast British Global Airlines Flight 716 crew and passengers: Season 2 cast Season 3 cast All three seasons are now available to stream on Netflix, so run don't walk! There are six episodes in each season and they're about 40 minutes long, so you have lots of material to keep you busy this week. Following the season three Netflix release, viewers flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. "Departure on Netflix - just started first episode and [I was] gripped in [the] first few minutes. My weekend viewing sorted," one fan wrote. Another viewer praised the cast, particularly Panjabi, writing: "Anything with #ArchiePanjabi in it, you know it's going to be sooo good. #Departure #Netflix She is brilliant." Netflix thriller climbs up top 10 with new season despite being labelled ‘tripe'
There's a new thriller doing numbers on Netflix, after the third season with six new episodes was released last week. Not one for nervous fliers, Departure kicks off with a nightmare plane journey from New York to London which results in the plane going missing. Archie Punjabi, who has not one but two airline thrillers to her name after co-starring in the Apple TV Plus hit Hijack, here plays investigator Kendra Malley. Malley is parachuted into the crisis to find where exactly Flight 176 might be and then piece together what went wrong in the air – and she has to go rogue to do so. The twisty, turny thriller first debuted in 2020, and sees Punjabi play opposite the late Hollywood legend Christopher Plummer as her mentor. Former CMW president resolves ‘miscommunication' with buyers that led to legal action
TORONTO - The former president of Canadian Music Week says legal action he launched over what he characterizes as a 'miscommunication' with the festival's new owners has been resolved. Neill Dixon filed a notice of action in Ontario court in March against Loft Entertainment and Oak View Group, which purchased Canadian Music Week last year and renamed it Departure Festival and Conference. Dixon alleged the companies didn't live up to their side of the $2-million deal, but now says that was based on a miscommunication. With the spat over, Dixon says he'll attend the festival where he'll receive and accept a lifetime achievement award. The inaugural Departure event is set to begin Tuesday and run for six days, with celebrity speakers including pop duo Tegan and Sara, Arkells frontman Max Kerman and rocker Bryan Adams. A representative for Departure says in an emailed statement that Dixon and the festival owners are 'in complete agreement on the sale and transition of the business.' 'All parties agree that what matters is the amicable solution that we have collectively arrived at,' the statement reads. Loft Entertainment was co-founded by Randy Lennox, the former head of Bell Media and past Canadian record label executive. Oak View is a Denver-based company that recently opened offices in Toronto. The four-day CMW launched in the early 1980s and built a reputation as one of the music scene's leading industry events, hosting conferences, awards shows and live performances. Since buying CMW last year, the event's new owners have rebranded it as Departure Festival and Conference and expanded its scope to include standup comedy and technology. This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 1, 2025.
