Shila Amzah's alleged verbal attack case referred to DPP for action
KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation paper regarding singer Shila Amzah's allegation of being verbally attacked by a legendary male singer during a concert rehearsal will be forwarded to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office for further action. Kuala Lumpur Deputy Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad confirmed that authorities are finalising the report. 'So far, the police have recorded the statements of four individuals, including the complainant, to assist in the investigation,' he said in a statement. The case is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation following Shila Amzah's police report filed at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters last Thursday. – Bernama

[UPDATED] Foreign man found with serious head injuries at HKL carpark, police confirms
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed claims in a viral video that a foreign man was found with serious head injuries in the car park of Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL). Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said a report was received at 8.56pm on June 29 from an assistant medical officer at the hospital. "About 5.20pm, a male patient — believed to be a non-Malaysian citizen and without any form of identification — was brought in by a Klang Valley Ambulance Service (KVAS) unit from the HKL multi-level car park," he said in a statement. The man was admitted to the hospital's emergency department for treatment of a head injury. A medical examination confirmed he suffered a fracture to the right rib in addition to the wound to the head. However, doctors found no skull fracture. The victim is in stable condition and remains under further treatment at the hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon, which carries a maximum 10-year jail term, a fine or whipping or both upon conviction. Sulizmie said no arrests have been made so far. "Investigation papers will be completed and referred to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office for further instructions," he added. Cyberjaya student murder suspect withdrew RM200 using victim's ATM card
SHAH ALAM: The main suspect in the murder of a private university student in Cyberjaya allegedly withdrew RM200 using the victim's ATM card, according to Selangor police. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that the unemployed suspect, a local man in his 20s, had stayed overnight at the victim's condominium after obtaining the unit's key and access card from his girlfriend, who was also the victim's housemate. 'During the incident, the victim's housemates, including the suspect's girlfriend, were not present. We believe the suspect took advantage of the victim,' Hussein said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters. Investigations revealed that the suspect stole several items, including the victim's bank card, mobile phone, and laptop, after committing the crime. 'The suspect disposed of the victim's phone, laptop, keys, and access card. However, police have recovered some of the stolen items,' Hussein added. The suspect is among four individuals remanded to assist in the investigation. The other three include the suspect's girlfriend, who allegedly accompanied him to withdraw RM200 using the victim's ATM card. Police are finalizing investigation papers before submitting them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office for further action.

Ex-civil servant fined for corruption involving towing services

KOTA KINABALU (June 10): A former civil servant was fined RM700,000 by a Sessions Court here on Tuesday after pleading guilty to 15 corruption charges related to towing services. Judge Jason Juga handed down the sentence to 52-year-old Abel Ongkunik, who had earlier pleaded guilty on March 14 to 15 to alternative charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code. The section provides for a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction. The prosecution offered the lesser charges after considering Abel's representation letter, which was accepted by the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office. According to the charges, Abel, while serving as the director of the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, received between RM33,098.62 and RM59,724.30 for granting a company permission to carry out towing services within the Kimanis port limitation area in 2018. He was also charged with approving towing licenses for a company between August 28, 2017 and July 2, 2018. The payments were made by two companies and deposited into the accounts of three different companies at bank branches in Kota Kinabalu, Lido and Kota Belud. For each of the 15 charges, Abel was fined between RM38,000 and RM58,000. In default, he will serve six months in jail per charge. Previously, on March 15, 2022, Abel had claimed trial to 29 charges under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, involving a total sum of RM1,290,706.19. The court later withdrew 15 of the original charges, while the remaining 14 were taken into consideration under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code during sentencing. The court also ordered the return of Abel's passport and the refund of his bail. He was represented by counsel Dominic Chew. Abel paid the fines.
