Miami County Police Memorial honors lives lost
TROY, Ohio (WDTN) — Every year since 1999, law enforcement in Miami County gather to remember those they've lost in the line of duty.
On the first Wednesday of every May, the community gathers to hold Police Memorial Day at the Courthouse Plaza, where a monument honors fallen law enforcement officers.
Retired Hamilton Co. deputy killed Friday identified as 33-year veteran
The memorial honored eight service members that have died in the line of duty — with the most recent addition from 2019 when an officer was killed on I-75.
'People hear it on the news that an officer lost their lives, but to know the officers here in this community in Miami County, eight of them have given their lives to help protect them over the years,' said Deputy Sheriff Billie Ray, Miami County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement says the memorial is held to remember those who've died and to let them and their family know, they are not forgotten.
