Browns' Jerry Jeudy Trying to Stay Flexible Amid QB Troubles

Browns' Jerry Jeudy Trying to Stay Flexible Amid QB Troubles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are the team in the NFL that has the most quarterbacks on their roster with five. Even though Deshaun Watson is injured, there will still be four guys competing for the starting spot in 2025. Advertisement And that is not exactly an easy thing for a wide receiver to deal with. In a recent interview with ESPN, Browns Pro Bowl wideout Jerry Jeudy talked a bit about what it's like dealing with a QB situation like this. And he did not leave anything out, as he said how he truly feels. "It is pretty difficult because you want to always build that relationship with a quarterback and have that consistency throughout the years," Jeudy said. "But as a receiver going through that, you just got to keep working and you got to learn how to adjust no matter what. Some situations ain't going to go as planned, so you just got to figure out how to just keep going and stay on the right path." The importance of a good connection between a quarterback and a receiver cannot be understated. But having to get build that kind of connection with four guys cannot be an easy task. Advertisement But despite some less-than-stellar quarterback play from the Browns this past season, Jeudy was still able to be one of the better receivers in the NFL. He finished with 1,229 yards, which placed him sixth in the league, as well as four touchdowns. Jeudy will be looking to follow up his Pro Bowl season with another good year in 2025, no matter who it is throwing him the ball. Browns Urged To Make Major QB Decision

Browns Urged To Make Major QB Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are not the only team in the NFL with some considerable quarterback questions heading into next season. However, theirs has pretty clearly become the most convoluted. Advertisement Cleveland added four new quarterbacks through the offseason after learning Deshaun Watson had considerable setbacks in his recovery from an Achilles injury. Now, it's veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Picket along with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders making up the quarterback totem pole. Many are wondering how this competition will work out through training camp and the remainder of the offseason. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio has come out strong against the idea of the Browns keeping all four, suspecting the team has attempted to build leverage here. 'I think that's lucdacris. Having four quarterbacks on your roster?' Florio said. 'I think they're trying to build some trade leverage." Florio believes that one of Flacco or Pickett must be gone before the start of the season in order to help Sanders and Gabriel progress in their development. Advertisement 'Between Flacco and Pickett, one of them has to go. They have to go,' Florio said. 'Because I don't want the presence of both of them to undermine my effort to see what I have in Gabriel and Sanders. They don't have enough reps to go around to get everyone ready.' It's hard to imagine one of these four not being squeezed out by the time the final 53-man roster decisions are made. But if the goal is to build leverage off the veteran assets, how exactly would the Browns trade one of them? Flacco is an aged quarterback with little demand elsewhere and the market for Pickett will not turn any heads either. Simultaneously, nothing says the Browns should be married to the pair of rookies either. Losing Gabriel or Sanders would be a noticeable swing and miss but both were late Day 2 and Day 3 picks. Certainly not ideal, but the Browns could do worse in using these assets. Advertisement And if the hopes to be competitive next season do not work out in their favor, there's a a better class of quarterback prospects waiting in next year's draft. The Browns have some freedom to explore what they have this season and by no means should be forced to spoon feed opportunities to the rookies if they are not deserving. There's no need to force a move just for the sake of doing so. Analyst Places Browns Coach on Surprising List

Analyst Places Browns Coach on Surprising List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns suffered a disappointing season in 2024 with a 3-14 mark, after a playoff appearance in 2023. There were many factors out of the control of the coaching staff, such as poor play and injuries to key players, but in a results-driven league, none of that matters. Advertisement The Haslams could've moved on from coach Kevin Stefanski after last season, and no one would've batted an eye. But they remain patient, maybe because of Stefanski's resume with the Browns. ProFootballFocus' Dan Wasserman placed Stefanski at No. 10 on his list of the league's top 10 returning coaches in 2025. "Stefanski has dealt with a cascade of issues in Cleveland, particularly surrounding the Deshaun Watson trade and subsequent contract extension," Wasserman wrote. "However, the two-time NFL Coach of the Year deserves respect as someone who gets his team to compete regardless of the circumstances. Stefanski broke the Browns' long playoff drought in 2020 and picked up the franchise's first playoff win since reentering the league in 1999. He also led a surge to the postseason in 2023 with Joe Flacco as his quarterback from Week 14 onward. "Stefanski has proven he can succeed if given even adequate offensive tools. The team just needs to provide him with that to complement its excellent defense." Advertisement The 43-year-old is a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year and remains the only Browns coach this century to win a postseason game, and just the second since 2000 to receive a contract extension after Romeo Crennel in 2008. He's also just the second Browns coach to lead the team to multiple postseason appearances since Marty Schottenheimer. But with a 40-44 overall record after five seasons, some are questioning his future in the City of Light. Next season could prove to be a make-or-break one for Stefanski in Cleveland. Browns Predicted to 'Get What They Paid For' in QB Room

Browns Predicted to 'Get What They Paid For' in QB Room originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns have a unique quarterback situation in 2025. With Deshaun Watson shelved for the foreseeable future with an Achilles tear, general manager Andrew Berry signed veteran free agents Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and drafted Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in the third and fifth rounds, respectively. Advertisement Now, through the first phase of the offseason, heading into training camp, none of the four seem to be setting themselves apart from the rest, leading to a lot of speculation of "gloom and doom" for the quarterback room. Logan Ulrich thinks this room will go up in flames and the Browns will be in search of a new name for 2026. "The Browns threw a bunch of darts at the quarterback position," Ulrich wrote. "None of them were expensive, but that means Cleveland will likely get what they paid for. If it turns out the team didn't land a winning scratch-off ticket, they'll be right back in the mix in 2026, although with a little more ammunition and motivation to be bigger players." Ulrich isn't completely out of his mind here, if we're going solely based on contracts. Advertisement It's not always true in the NFL that you "get what you pay for." There are plenty of contracts every year where the player outplays their value. But the opposite is true each season, too. Flacco signed for one year and $4.25 million, by all practical comparisons a budget "starting quarterback" deal. Pickett was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles, and his still on his four-year, $14.1 million rookie deal he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, but he'll earn roughly $2.6 million next season. Then there are the rookies. As a third-round pick, Gabriel signed a four-year, $6.2 million deal, and Sanders signed a four-year, $4.6 million contract as a fifth-rounder. Advertisement None of these are highly paid quarterbacks, and if Ulrich is right, and the Browns truly get what they paid for here, then Cleveland could be in trouble. But it all seems very far-fetched to me. Analyst Claims Shedeur Sanders Will Start High on Browns' Training Camp Depth Chart

Analyst Claims Shedeur Sanders Will Start High on Browns' Training Camp Depth Chart originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are the NFL team with the most "name" quarterbacks on their roster, as they currently have five guys who have all entered the public consciousness. Advertisement As a result, as training camp approaches, the team has to decide where all of those guys will go on their depth chart. And one analyst believes — privately, we assume — that the decision has already been made. One of the team's QBs is former Colorado superstar Shedeur Sanders, who the team took in the fifth round of the April NFL Draft after he slid all the way from projections that suggested he might go in the first. Some think he has some growing (and growing up) to do, but others say the Browns should trust him going into the 2025 season. How strong is the opinion of some in that "others" class? Advertisement "When you and me both know that this man has the most upside of any other quarterback on this roster, there is no way that Shedeur Sanders is not entering training camp, for me, as QB No. 2 on this Browns depth chart," analyst "Earl Da Pearl" Mauldin said on 92.3 The Fan. With all due respect to "Earl Da Pearl" ... we know no such thing. And neither does he. There are realistically four guys that will be competing for the starting job in Cleveland, as Deshaun Watson is still recovering from a twice-ruptured right Achilles tendon. As a result of Watson's woes, Sanders has a better chance of earning the job ... or, at least, of making the team. Advertisement But at this stage? There is no evidence that he will be or should be ranked ahead of Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett or fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted in the third round ... ahead of Shedeur ... For a reason. The 23-year-old quarterback finished his final season with the Buffaloes with 4,134 yards and 27 touchdowns on 74 percent completion, all of which led the Big 12 Conference. No matter how you feel about the rookie QB — and he is already a polarizing figure — there is no denying that he is talented at some level ... and he will be looking to use that talent to earn the Browns' starting spot in his rookie season. Advertisement Or ... to just make the team.
