Alligator spotted on Tybee Friday morning, city urges caution
An alligator was seen around the mid-beach area of Tybee Island Friday morning, according to the city's Facebook page. First responders searched the area on foot and with drones for several hours but were unable to track the alligator as it swam to deeper waters. While alligators can tolerate salt water for short periods of time, they are primarily freshwater animals, living in swampy area, rivers, streams lakes and ponds. If you encounter wildlife on Tybee, call 911 if you spot anything concerning. Savannah Police investigate shooting death of man on east side
The Savannah Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Friday night at the intersection of Live Oak and East 39th St., resulting in the death of one adult man. Around 11 p.m., officers responded to the scene based on ShotSpotter reports, according to a press release. They discovered an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound, who was provided with immediate medical assistance but succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene. No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers, 912-234-2020.
