Gadchiroli district, four taluks in Gondia remain 'Naxal-infested': Maharashtra Government
'The entire Gadchiroli district and four taluks in Gondia remain 'Naxal-infested,' according to the Maharashtra Government. The Naxal tag has raised eyebrows as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had declared part of Gadchiroli "free of Maoist activities" over five months ago and asserted south Gadchiroli would soon be rid of the Maoist menace. Editorial | Decisive moment: On Chhattisgarh anti-Maoist operation A Government Resolution (GR) on Friday (June 27, 2025) stated that Gondia, Salekasa, Devri and Arjuni Morgaon taluks in Gondia district and the entire Gadchiroli district are 'Naxal-infested.' It said the declaration is based on the Central Government's list of Maoist-affected areas. Gadchiroli is often referred to as the last district of Maharashtra as it is on the State's eastern border. After felicitating C60 commandos in January, Mr. Fadnavis said Maharashtra will soon become free of Maoists given the rise in the number of Maoists laying down their arms and the movement failing to attract recruits. "Gadchiroli Police almost eradicated Naxal activities in the district. North Gadchiroli is now free of Maoist activities and south Gadchiroli will soon become free from Maoists," he had told reporters, claiming that the dominance of Maoists in remote areas of Gadchiroli district was waning. 'The government has started the process to make Gadchrioli the 'first district' by eliminating the dominance of Maoists,' he said.

Hindi imposition row: BJP not backing down, to ‘take truth to people'
Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided not to give in to growing opposition from regional parties against its decision to make Hindi the default third language in schools across Maharashtra from Class 1. The party will instead 'set the right narrative' and 'take the truth to people' ahead of local body polls across the state later this year, according to party insiders. Mumbai, Jun 27 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Joint General Secretary Shiv Prakash, state party president Chandrashekhar Bawankule and others during the BJP Maharashtra core committee meeting, in Mumbai on Thursday. (@Devendra_Office X/ANI Photo) (Office of Devendra - X) The decision was taken during a meeting of the Maharashtra BJP's core committee on Thursday evening at the official residence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai. Apart from its strategy for the upcoming local body polls, the state BJP's top brass also discussed how to tackle the issue of Marathi pride raked up by parties such as the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which have claimed that the Mahayuti government is trying to impose Hindi in Maharashtra's schools. The BJP resolved not to fall prey to the trap and tackle it skillfully, according to a senior party leader who was present at the meeting. 'The leaders expressed the need to set the right narrative and convey the right message to citizens—that the decision to grant Marathi the status of a classical language was made possible only because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was decided that the party should take up the benefits of the status for the preservation and promotion of the [Marathi] language to the people,' said the senior party leader. The decision to grant classical status to Marathi was announced by the Union Cabinet in October last year, ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections. During the meeting, BJP leaders, including Fadnavis, said that the Opposition is spreading a misconception about the state government's decision to introduce Hindi in primary education, said the senior leader. 'Hindi has not been imposed as a compulsory language, but a misconception is being spread. The opposition parties, especially the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, are likely to play the Marathi pride card in the elections, as they have been doing in previous polls. While discussing the matter, the leaders pressed for the need to take the truth to the people,' added the senior leader. While presenting the facts to the people, Fadnavis has advised BJP leaders to be cautious when reacting to the Opposition's criticism. The party leadership also expressed dissatisfaction with the stand taken by its partners, especially the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), on the issue. NCP chief and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has said that Hindi should be taught from Class 5. Apart from the chief minister, Thursday's meeting was attended by Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, working president Ravindra Chavan, joint national general secretary Shiv Prakash, former state unit chief Raosaheb Danve, higher education minister Chandrakant Patil, and Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar. 'BJP is a staunch supporter of Marathi, but it also respects the other languages,' said Shelar on Friday. 'We ensured the classical language status for Marathi, and Hindi has not been made compulsory in the schools.'

As CM, Uddhav accepted report saying Hindi compulsory, says Fadnavis
MUMBAI: The BJP rushed to the defence of the state government over its decision to introduce Hindi as an optional language for Classes 1 to 5 after the Thackeray cousins announced their decision to hold a joint morcha against "imposition" of Hindi in state schools. CM Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said Marathi is compulsory, Hindi is optional. "Basically, students can learn any Indian language. We have accepted the three-language policy. When NE was introduced, the Uddhav Thackeray govt was in office. An 18-member committee was set up to study the policy, and in 2021 the Thackeray govt accepted it and further action was taken on it. In this report, it was clearly mentioned that along with Marathi, Hindi and English be made compulsory. Will you consider Mashelkar, Bhalchandra Mungekar, Sukhdev Thorat, who submitted this report, anti-Maharashtra? We allowed all languages," he said.

New business district to be developed along northern arm of coastal road in Mumbai
Mumbai: A business district similar to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) will be developed along the northern arm — Versova-Dahisar-Bhayandar-Virar — of the coastal road, said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday. At a review meeting of the progress made on the project, Fadnavis directed govt lands adjoining the coastal road to be used to develop new economic hubs similar to BKC, creating fresh growth centres for Mumbai. He also directed the installation of hoardings and flex to use the revenue to fund the maintenance of the road. He instructed the appointment of a consultant so that the hoardings are aesthetically designed. Work on the northern arm of the coastal road from Versova to Dahisar up to Bhayandar is being executed by the BMC at an estimated cost of Rs 22,000 crore. BMC's Abhijit Bangar, additional municipal commissioner in charge of projects, said work orders have already been issued and the process of obtaining various environmental clearances is underway. The Dahisar-Bhayandar section will be commissioned in Aug 2028, while the Versova-Dahisar stretch will be commissioned in Dec 2028," said Bangar, adding good connectivity would help the growth of the economic centre. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Onko sinulla usein vaikeuksia muistaa nimiä, tehtäviä ja kellonaikoja? Fadnavis directed that the depts concerned complete the land transfer process within 15 days. "In case the fisheries dept building at Versova is affected, follow-up action must be taken to acquire the necessary land. The Madh-Versova connecting road should also be developed in close coordination with MMRDA," he said, while cautioning that the project be executed protecting mangrove cover and increasing plantation beyond the impacted area. Advocate Y P Singh said construction of the coastal road from Versova to Marine Drive was accorded CRZ clearance under the CRZ Notification 2011, in which road construction was permitted. This notification has been replaced by CRZ Notification 2019, which permits roads to be constructed in highly restrictive CRZ-I areas only in exceptional cases for defence, strategic purposes, and public utilities, subject to a detailed marine or terrestrial or both environment impact assessment. "It is much more stringent. Further, environment clearance would be required under the Environment Impact Assessment of 2006, as also forest clearance. The project would be critically examined, including removal of mangroves as an exceptional case. It does not seem it will be an easy ride," he said, adding the 2019 notification does not allow permission to be granted for building construction on the landward side of any new roads which are constructed on the seaward side of an existing road. "It is highly doubtful commercial business districts can be made in such areas," he said.
