No clarity on 1-yr PG courses; undergrad syllabi pending too
Indore: Colleges across Madhya Pradesh are facing uncertainty as the higher education department has not yet issued any syllabus or guidelines for the one-year postgraduate (PG) courses introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) from the academic session 2025–26. Despite three rounds of PG admissions being completed and the fourth (College Level Counselling) round underway, no official direction has been given on course structure, degree nomenclature, eligibility criteria, or evaluation process for one-year MA, MCom, and MSc programmes. These courses are meant for students who completed four-year undergraduate degrees with honours or research. Around 3,500 students from colleges affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya completed four-year UG programmes and are eligible for one-year PG, but are now uncertain about how and when their courses will begin. Questions remain unanswered regarding the academic value and recognition of the degree for further studies and competitive exams. Colleges are also unclear about whether these programmes will be offered in their institutions, which faculty members are eligible to teach them, and what infrastructure will be needed. Without this clarity, affiliation and academic planning have not moved forward. "While the NEP introduced the four-year UG option, there has been no planning for what comes next. The system has become overly centralised by DHE, and the absence of communication is directly affecting students and academic institutions," said Dr Mangal Mishra, senior educationist from the city. Additionally, the PG and some UG courses are also affected due to delays in syllabus release. For UG programmes like BA, BSc, and BCom, the syllabus for foundation subjects is yet to be issued. In BCom, elective and vocational subject syllabi are also pending. Only the major and minor subject syllabi for first-year students have been released so far. Due to this delay, teaching in several subjects has not started despite the official start date of July 1. Colleges have also not received clarity on book availability, which is expected to be affected by the late release of syllabi. Faculty members and education experts have said the current situation is disrupting the academic calendar.

DAVV's new academic session is two months late
Indore: The academic session at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya's University Teaching Departments (UTD) is set to begin over two months behind schedule, with undergraduate classes commencing from September 8. The university released its academic calendar, outlining a delayed yet structured timeline for teaching, examinations, and results. As per the calendar, teaching for the first semester will continue till December 23, followed by examinations scheduled from January 6 to 25. Results of these exams will be declared by February 1. Classes for postgraduate courses under CUET-PG are expected to begin by mid-July, while undergraduate classes, particularly those under CUET-UG, will only start in September due to delayed counselling processes. The university is facing challenges in synchronising its academic calendar across 33 departments running multiple UG, PG, and integrated programmes. While non-CUET course admissions were already completed and classes are set to begin soon, the staggered admission schedules are making it difficult to implement a uniform academic plan across all departments. CUET PG merit list released, choice filling begins today
Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on Thursday announced the merit list for postgraduate admissions based on CUET-PG 2025 scores. Students who registered for PG admissions at DAVV through CUET PG can now check their merit rank on the university's website. The choice filling process will begin from June 13 to June 19. "Students can view their merit status and proceed with course preferences," said Prof Rajesh Sharma, Chairman, CUET PG Admissions at DAVV. The choice filling involves selecting and prioritising programmes across departments and locking preferences before the deadline to be eligible for allotment. Despite a record 86,000 students selecting DAVV as their preferred institution during the CUET-PG registration process—more than double last year's figure—the university received just over 1,500 registrations for its 1,450 PG seats, raising concern among the admissions committee. Sharma attributed this to confusion over subject mapping: "Many students only appeared for their core subject exams, skipping required tests like general knowledge and mathematics, which limited their eligibility. " As per the official counselling schedule, the first round of seat allotment will be announced on June 24. Students allotted seats will have to report for document verification between June 30 and July 2, followed by online fee submission from June 30 to July 6.. 95k apply for admissions in BEd, MEd courses against 58k seats
Indore: Admissions for BEd, MEd, BPEd, and MPEd courses across Madhya Pradesh saw a record-breaking response this year, with more than 95,000 registrations recorded for 58,000 seats available in the first round of admissions under the department of higher education (DHE). In Indore alone over 7000 applications were submitted. Officials now anticipate a significant rise in cut-off scores, especially for BEd, where the merit threshold may go up to 73-74%, compared to last year's 69-71%. With the registration and verification process for the first round now complete, the department of higher education is set to release the first allotment list on Thursday. Students, who will be allotted seats, will have to confirm admission and pay the fee between June 13 and 18. Despite two more rounds to follow, the first phase already witnessed over 83,000 locked registrations and 72,000 document verifications, making it the most competitive phase so far. BEd and MEd college association representatives have urged authorities to begin CLC (college level counselling) round early to ensure optimal seat utilisation. Last year, due to technical glitches, some seats remained vacant despite high demand. In total, 775 colleges across the state offer these teacher education programmes, with 69 affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore. Undergraduate programmes such as BA, BCom, and BSc have also seen renewed interest, despite BBA and BCA courses being shifted under the department of technical education. Admission experts attribute the surge to increasing preference among students preparing for competitive exams like MPPSC , UPSC , and police services. City college administrators believe that if technical issues are addressed timely, no seats will remain vacant this year. The second round for UG, PG and teacher education courses will begin with fresh registrations from June 13 to 18, followed by document verification, allotment lists, and fee payment as per revised schedules.

Applications less than non-CUET seats
Indore: The admission counselling process for Non-CUET courses offered by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) commenced on Tuesday across various teaching departments. The week-long counselling will determine admissions for 108 postgraduate and undergraduate programmes across 30 departments. Despite the availability of 3,283 seats, the university received only 1,514 applications—less than half the number of seats available. Out of the total registrations, 1,359 applications are for UG and PG courses, 103 are for MTech programmes, and 52 are for MBA executive. The counselling for all MTech programmes at the School of Computer Science is being conducted collectively. According to Dr BK Tripathi, Chairman of the Non-CUET Admission Committee at DAVV, counselling will proceed as scheduled across all departments, and admissions will be strictly based on merit. "The counselling is being done at the department level. The students who registered for the counselling are reporting to the respective departments for admissions. If seats remain vacant after this round of admissions, students can directly contact the departments and enquire about seat vacancy," added Tripathi. While several courses received more applications than available seats and will thus admit students based on merit, many others still have vacant positions.
