Abu Dhabi Labour Court of First Instance obligated a company to pay Dhs132,587 and an airway ticket at up to Dhs1,492 to a female employee for failing to pay her due wages for several consecutive months. Earlier, a female employee filed a lawsuit against the company she was working for in which she requested the court to obligate the company to pay her back wages and wage differences for several months totaling Dhs120,889 plus an end-of-service bonus of Dhs11,698, an airway ticket at Dhs1,492 dirhams and the incurred expenses. The plaintiff requested the court's judgment to be with immediate enforcement, based on the claim that she worked for the company for about 3 years with a basic salary of Dhs8,000 and a total salary of Dhs16,000. The court explained that article 22 of federal decree-law no. 33 for 2021 regulating labour relations outlines that the wage, or its type (e.g. hourly, daily, monthly), must be specified in the employment contract. If not specified, the competent court will determine it in labor disputes. The employer is obligated to pay wages on the due dates according to the Ministry's approved systems and regulations, it added. The case papers were devoid of anything indicating that the company paid the agreed-upon wage and hence, the employee was entitled to her delayed wage for this period, the court said. The plaintiff's service period lasted for about 3 years and the papers were devoid of anything indicating that the company had paid the end-of-service gratuity, and accordingly the employee was entitled to the Dhs11,698 she was demanding, it added. It is also stipulated in accordance with article 13/12 of federal decree-law no. 33 for 2021, which regulates labour relations, that a worker is entitled to an airway ticket to be paid for by the employer to the place from which he was recruited or mutually agreed upon. Whereas the employee terminated the employment relationship with her company due to the failure of the latter to pay her due wages as stipulated above, therefore she is entitled to an airway ticket unless she joins another job.

Abu Dhabi Primary Labour Court has ordered a company to pay Dhs102,209 to an employee who was dismissed after more than 14 years of service. The company had withheld his unpaid wages for 10 months, as well as his notice period salary and vacation allowance. Details reveal that the employee filed a lawsuit against the company, demanding the payment of Dhs87,285 as his end-of-service gratuity, Dhs18,496 as vacation allowance, Dhs34,500 as financial and moral compensation for the company's failure to pay his salary for 10 months, Dhs34,500 as notice period salary, Dhs1,500 as return flight tickets, and a 9% delay interest from the date of claim until full payment, and legal fees and expenses, besides giving him an experience certificate. The plaintiff stated that he joined the company in 2010 under an employment contract with a total salary of Dhs11,500 but he was dismissed in the second half of 2024. Regarding the end-of-service gratuity, the court noted that the employment contract confirmed the employee's entitlement to one month's salary for each year of service. Given his service period of 14 years, 1 month, and 23 days, he is entitled to Dhs87,259 as gratuity. For the vacation allowance, the court ruled that he is entitled to 15 days of leave, amounting to Dhs3,450. As for the notice period salary, the court stated that the employee is entitled to one month's salary of Dhs11,500, as per the employment contract.

Al Ain Court for Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases obligated a person to pay Dhs11,200 to another for abstaining from settling the remaining price of a vehicle already delivered to him. The defendant paid only Dhs300 although he had an agreement with the plaintiff to buy the vehicle for a specific sum of money. Earlier, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit in which he requested the court to obligate the defendant to pay him Dhs11,200 plus Dhs3,000 in compensation for the material and moral harms and the legal expenses and fees. The plaintiff pleaded that pursuant to an agreement between them, he sold the vehicle subject of the lawsuit to the defendant for Dhs11,500 but the latter paid only Dhs300 and refused to pay the remainder despite the expiry of the agreed-upon period. This caused him material and moral harms and prompted him to file this lawsuit to obtain a verdict in his favour, he said. To support his lawsuit, the plaintiff submitted a copy of the sales contract. After reviewing the case, the court was hereby satisfied that the plaintiff was entitled to what he was requesting, especially since the defendant did not dispute the validity of the debt and did not present anything that contradicted the related documents. Based on this, the court ruled that the plaintiff's requests be fulfilled and the remaining amount stated in the sales contract be paid. As far as the compensation claim was concerned, the court stated that according to Article 292 of the Civil Transactions Law, compensation should cover both the actual loss suffered by the victim and any loss of profit, provided that these are a direct consequence of the harmful act. As the plaintiff, with whom the burden of proof lies, neither explained the nature of the harms nor the losses he sustained as a result of what the defendant did, the court hereby rejected this claim as it stood.

Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative cases Court obligated a man to pay Dhs10,000 to a woman plus a compensation of Dhs3,000 after he had stolen electronic devices and a mobile phone from her, assaulted her and caused her injuries that prevented her from performing her work for no more than 20 days. The woman filed a lawsuit against the man for assaulting her and stealing her belongings. The defendant was convicted based on a lawsuit that was filed against him. In her lawsuit, the victim requested the court to obligate the defendant to pay her the price of the stolen items in addition to Dhs30,000 in compensation for the material and moral harms she sustained and the incurred charges, expenses and lawyer's fees. The court asked her to clarify the contents of the compensation claim and the value of the electronic devices. The plaintiff affirmed that the Dhs30,000 claim included Dhs11,000 as the price of the electronic devices and Dhs19,000 as a compensation for the material and moral harms she had suffered. The court explained that it was evident from the lawsuit in which he was convicted that the defendant had stolen the plaintiff's movable property, which was worth approximately Dhs10,000. The court estimated the price of the stolen goods at Dhs10,000 and ordered the defendant to pay the amount to the plaintiff plus a compensation of Dhs3,000 for the material and moral harms that the plaintiff suffered.
