Female employee awarded Dhs132,500 and flight home after company failed to pay wages
Abu Dhabi Labour Court of First Instance obligated a company to pay Dhs132,587 and an airway ticket at up to Dhs1,492 to a female employee for failing to pay her due wages for several consecutive months. Earlier, a female employee filed a lawsuit against the company she was working for in which she requested the court to obligate the company to pay her back wages and wage differences for several months totaling Dhs120,889 plus an end-of-service bonus of Dhs11,698, an airway ticket at Dhs1,492 dirhams and the incurred expenses. The plaintiff requested the court's judgment to be with immediate enforcement, based on the claim that she worked for the company for about 3 years with a basic salary of Dhs8,000 and a total salary of Dhs16,000. The court explained that article 22 of federal decree-law no. 33 for 2021 regulating labour relations outlines that the wage, or its type (e.g. hourly, daily, monthly), must be specified in the employment contract. If not specified, the competent court will determine it in labor disputes. The employer is obligated to pay wages on the due dates according to the Ministry's approved systems and regulations, it added. The case papers were devoid of anything indicating that the company paid the agreed-upon wage and hence, the employee was entitled to her delayed wage for this period, the court said. The plaintiff's service period lasted for about 3 years and the papers were devoid of anything indicating that the company had paid the end-of-service gratuity, and accordingly the employee was entitled to the Dhs11,698 she was demanding, it added. It is also stipulated in accordance with article 13/12 of federal decree-law no. 33 for 2021, which regulates labour relations, that a worker is entitled to an airway ticket to be paid for by the employer to the place from which he was recruited or mutually agreed upon. Whereas the employee terminated the employment relationship with her company due to the failure of the latter to pay her due wages as stipulated above, therefore she is entitled to an airway ticket unless she joins another job.

Family man at heart While Sheikh Mohammed is one of the key figureheads of this nation, he's also a family man at heart. Particularly when it comes to spending time with his grandchildren. His Highness is regularly seen doting on his grandchildren. To mark the end of Ramadan, during Eid Al Fitr, this year, the Dubai Ruler was at a family gathering with 23 of his grandchildren in a photo posted by his son. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented policewoman Halima Al Matroushi the award for Best Administrative Employee. However, chose not to receive the award herself. Instead, she let her mother take her place up on stage. A helping hand Throughout the years, Sheikh Mohammed has ensured offering humanitarian aid is a big priority for the UAE. In 2020, after the catastrophic explosion in Lebanon leaving around 300,000 people homeless and many injured, His Highness ordered 30 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies to be sent immediately on his personal aircraft in response to the devastating blast. Looking to the future In August 2020, the Ruler of Dubai opened a new medical research centre has opened in Dubai that not only studies COVID-19, but also other communicable diseases. '[We are] proud of you, proud of your partnership in the development process, we raise our heads with your achievements. Parkin launches new 24/7 paid parking zone at Al Khail Gate
Motorists will now need to pay for parking all day, every day in a major Dubai neighbourhood. The city's official parking operator, Parkin, has announced a newly designated 24/7 zone at Al Khail Gate. Daily rates are set at a flat Dhs30 fee and will be enforced every day of the week, including Sundays. The hourly tariff begins at Dhs4 during both off-peak and peak hours, and pricing is consistent throughout the day. The parking zone announcement was made on social media, and outlined exactly what motorists will pay during off-peak and peak hours. Al Khail Gate peak hours tariff One hour: Dhs4 Two hours: Dhs8 Three hours: Dhs10 Four hours: Dhs12 Five hours: Dhs14 Six hours: Dhs16 Seven hours: Dhs18 Eight hours: Dhs20 Nine hours: Dhs22 24 hours: Dhs30 Al Khail Gate off-peak hours tariff According to the list of hourly rates released by Parkin online, there is no difference between peak and off-peak hours at the new zone. One hour: Dhs4 Two hours: Dhs8 Three hours: Dhs10 Four hours: Dhs12 Five hours: Dhs14 Six hours: Dhs16 Seven hours: Dhs18 Eight hours: Dhs20 Nine hours: Dhs22 24 hours: Dhs30 The new parking zone uses the code 365N. It is the latest paid parking zone to be introduced by Parkin in 2025, with two zones recently brought in at Mirdif. Earlier in 2025, Parkin introduced a whole range of new tariffs for premium spots across its network in the city. Payment for premium spaces across the city increased to Dhs6 per hour while regular parking spaces remained priced at Dhs4 per hour. Syrian child with rare genetic disease begins treatment at Al Jalila Hospital in Dubai
The family of Yaqeen Ibrahim Kanaker, a Syrian child, confirmed that she began treatment on Thursday at Al Jalila Children's Hospital, which is part of Dubai Healthcare City. This was a swift response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Yaqeen's father told "Al Khaleej", "We started Yaqeen's treatment at Al Jalila Hospital, where we found that the entire medical staff were treating her with a high level of care. They are working to complete all the necessary assessments in preparation for the treatment plan." He added, "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's humanitarian gesture will never be forgotten and will remain etched in our memories for as long as we live. This is not surprising given the UAE leadership's numerous urgent relief initiatives to assist those in need." He further pointed out that His Highness has always supported and backed every person in need in the country, setting an example in the fields of charity and humanitarian giving. Yaqeen's mother, whose little girl suffering from spinal muscular atrophy — a rare genetic disease requiring urgent treatment, expressed her happiness on the start of her daughter's treatment at Al Jalila Hospital. She thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his generosity and for taking a noble and humanitarian stance in supporting Yaqeen's treatment. She also expressed her gratitude for the donation, saying that it reflects His Highness's commitment to alleviating suffering and his boundless support for humanity. She added that his initiatives have had a profound impact on the lives of many people in the UAE and beyond. With the support of friends, the Kanaker family launched a moving appeal through the International Charity Organisation. In a moving video, Yaqeen's uncle urged the UAE and Arab leaders to donate in order to save the child's life, emphasising that time is running out and treatment is urgent. In 2021, Sheikh Mohammed undertook to provide for the medical treatment of an 18-month-old Iraqi girl suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. The girl's mother had posted a video to Sheikh Mohammed, in which she asked him to provide for the treatment of her daughter in Al Jalila Hospital in Dubai. She said that her child was suffering from a rare disease and muscle atrophy that may reach the bronchi and turn her into a doll. According to preliminary information, the treatment is one of the most expensive treatments in the world and its cost may reach Dhs8 million. Linking her appeal to Sheikh Mohammed to the Hope Probe, the mother said: 'I arrived in the UAE when the Hope probe reached Mars. I hope that you can meet my need.' The generous Dubai Ruler has always stands up for humanitarian situation. In June 2020, Sheikh Mohammed covered the expenses of a surgery of an Indian child in Dubai. Pritvik Sinhad, 15, who was suffering from kidney failure. Sheikh Mohammed sent a message to Pritvik. He said, 'To my dear Pritvik, this is a small gesture from me to you to remind you that you are here at home and that you are in safe hands, and I will pray to God to keep you in good health and safe… keep smiling little warrior.' The message was accompanied by a bouquet of flowers and a personal gift. Pritvik said that the gesture of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid means a lot to him.
