Youth swimmers Dhuha, Xin Lin shine at Sea Age Group meet
KUALA LUMPUR: National youth swimmers Dhuha Zulfikry and Chong Xin Lin were forced to settle for silver in their pet events at the Sea Age Group Championships in Singapore on Thursday.
Dhuha, a six-gold medallist at last year's Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak, clocked 1:52.47s to finish runner-up in the boys' 16-18 200m freestyle, narrowly beaten by Vietnam's Nguyen Quoc Tran Van, who took gold in 1:51.92.
The 17-year-old had also bagged silver behind the same Vietnamese swimmer in the 400m freestyle on Wednesday.
Thailand's Wongsakorn Patsamarn claimed bronze in 1:53.44s.
Meanwhile, Xin Lin also finished second in the girls' 16-18 200m backstroke, touching the wall in 2:23.69.
Gold went to Thailand's Mia Millar (2:17.71), while Singapore's Charlotte Ng settled for bronze in 2:24.47.
Malaysia collected three more silver medals in the 50m butterfly — Joshua Lim in the boys' 14-15 category (25.70), Sheamus Chew in 13 and under (27.06) and Megan Ho in the girls' 14-15 (27.98).
The team also picked up six individual bronze medals — Christopher Manuel Nishan (boys' 14-15 50m fly, 25.94), Iriel Lim (13 and under 50m fly, 27.21), Shannon Tan (girls' 14-15 200m freestyle, 2:09.34), Aw Yuet Ting (14-15 100m breaststroke, 1:15.16).
The mixed Under-18 4x100m medley team comprising Vivian Tee, Emmanuel Loh, Megan and Loo Cheng Feng also took bronze with a time of 4:06.34.
Dhuha, Christopher, Cheng Feng and Damian Seth Lim returned to the pool to bag the final bronze for Malaysia on the second day of competition in the boys' 18 and under 4x100m freestyle event, clocking 3:35.51.
