State launches drive to prevent diarrhoea
Guwahati: Assam on Thursday launched the "Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025" to ensure preventive measures to combat the disease amid floods and rain.
Even though diarrhoea has been controlled to a great extent in Assam and no outbreak has been recorded this year, health department officials said it is crucial to monitor the situation in July and Aug.
The 'Diarrhoea Prevention Programme' started in the Kamrup Metropolitan District on Thursday.
This programme, which will run until Aug 25, was inaugurated at the Satgaon State Ayushman Arogya Mandir by Dr Manoj Choudhury, executive director of the National Health Mission, Assam.
To ensure that no child succumbs to diarrhoea, parents are being made aware. Awareness events are also being held at district Anganwadi centres and schools to educate students about the importance of using toilets, washing hands properly, and consuming safe drinking water.
Under the programme, ORS and zinc tablets are being distributed among all children aged 0-5 years. ASHA workers in the district will go door-to-door to raise awareness and distribute these medicines.
