Rules rewritten: How the NCAA is shaking up major junior hockey in Canada

The American league is not available to CHL players like Dickinson or this year's top picks, such as Michael Misa and Porter Martone, until they're in their age-20 year. The NCAA is only an option for players who remained unsigned by their NHL teams. 'I don't know why it's a rule (anymore), because they've professionalized themselves in every way,' Maloney said of U.S. colleges. 'But you still can't go back to school after signing a contract. The CHL and NHL will negotiate at some point and we'll see what happens after that.' There are two years remaining on the NHL-CHL deal, but that can be reopened to discuss teens playing in the American league. 'The NHL has not exercised that yet,' MacKenzie said. 'Based on the reporting around the CBA (collective bargaining agreement), that's on their minds. We have been partners with the NHL for a long time and will talk to them about this issue.' The CHL produced 90 selections (40 per cent) in the NHL draft last month – the most in nine years – and at least 21 first-round picks for the fifth time since 1969. But the big question is where they end up after hearing their name called. 'I think we'll see the best 17- and 18-year-olds playing against their draft class peers (in the CHL),' the scout said, 'but will we see them pushed against the best 19- and 20-year-olds trying to make it to the Memorial Cup? 'We don't know.' WILL THIS CHANGE? (2025 NHL draft picks by NHL teams) Canadian Hockey League: 90 United States Hockey League: 40 Sweden: 34 Russia: 22 NCAA: 9

LSU baseball's Daniel Dickinson picked in 6th round. Where is the star's next stop?

LSU baseball infielder Daniel Dickinson was selected at No. 185 overall by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft. Dickinson is the first Tiger off the board on day two of the draft. He follows former teammates Kade Anderson, Chase Shores, Ethan Frey and Anthony Eyanson, all of whom heard their names called on Sunday. lists Dickinson as the draft's No. 80 prospect. He ascended on scouts' lists by establishing himself as LSU's everyday second baseman in his first year of Power Four baseball. Following two seasons at Utah Valley, Dickinson batted .315 with 75 hits and 49 RBI. Dickinson likely slots into professional ball as a second baseman. He made just four errors all season. Scouts liked his control of the strike zone but noted the transition to wood bats at the professional level as a cause for concern. The scouting report also noted that Dickinson struggled at shortstop during fall practice with LSU. Dickinson was a key cog in the LSU lineup as the Tigers won their second College World Series in three years. He was consistent vs SEC pitching even as other bats in the Tigers lineup struggled. LSU will miss Dickinson's veteran presence in the middle of the infield, but LSU is in good hands with the return of shortstop Steven Milam.

Mum who 'dumped minutes-old baby in bin' tells police it was 'best option'

WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: Taylor Sierra Dickinson, 28, is accused of tying her newborn baby boy in a bin bag and leaving him in a waste container just minutes after she gave birth A mum has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly placing her newborn son in a bin just minutes after giving birth - later telling police she believed abandoning the child in the rubbish was her 'best option.' Taylor Sierra Dickinson, 28, is accused of tying her baby boy in a bin bag and leaving him in a waste container in the town of Sun Valley, Nevada, US, where he was discovered nearly 10 hours later by a passer-by who heard crying and climbed into the bin to rescue him. The baby was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center and is now in a stable condition, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. ‌ ‌ 'This child is alive today because of the swift and selfless actions of a community member who didn't hesitate to help,' said Sheriff Darin Balaam in a statement. 'We're incredibly grateful for their courage and quick thinking. I also want to remind our community that there are safe and legal options for anyone in crisis, no baby should ever be left in danger.' Dickinson, who is married and already has two other children, was arrested on Sunday and is now facing multiple charges including attempted murder, child abuse, and neglect or endangerment. She is being held on a $1million cash-only bail (£740,000). During a bail hearing on Wednesday, Washoe County Sheriff's Detective Claire Hoops-Adams gave testimony outlining Dickinson's alleged account of the incident. 'She had no knowledge of the gender, whether the child was breathing or moving,' the detective said. 'According to her, the infant was wrapped completely in the towel and placed in the garbage bag. In her panic, she thought that was her best option.' ‌ Hoops-Adams also said Dickinson claimed she didn't realise she was pregnant when she gave birth in a nearby bathroom on July 5, and reacted in a state of 'panic and shock.' The detective told the court that Dickinson admitted she did not want any more children and had hoped someone would find the infant. 'She stated that she had no desire to have any more children, stating her family financially was living paycheck to paycheck at that point and they could not support an additional child,' Hoops-Adams said. She added that Dickinson had previously miscarried in 2023 and admitted to leaving the foetus in a garbage can. Police are reminding the public that Nevada's Safe Haven Law allows parents to legally and safely surrender infants up to 30 days old at any hospital, fire station, or law enforcement agency - no questions asked. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
